- NJ State Police ticket drivers who are sleeping in creative spots due to a lack of parking availability. I had to spend the day at the Vince Lombardi Service Plaza waiting on the Electric Fire Truck I was hauling to a TV appearance.

What a novel idea.... an electric fire truck! Now they developed an EV that can put itself out when it catches on fire!
Believe it or not this idea was toyed with for awhile, many municipalities don't like the idea cause when you think about the power draw that apparatus has the battery runs out after about six or seven hours. Most structural fires require at the minimum a five hour response and as the number of alarms rung goes up the time on scene expands per the fire itself. Then there is the issue of recharging the apparatus to extend its response time on scene, water and electricity don't mix and anyone whose ever seen a mild to moderate fire knows water gets EVERYWHERE. The consensus was this idea just wasn't a viable one and wasn't really cost affective either cause they cost a good chunk of change more than standard apparatus. From what I heard from the equipment/vehicle purchaser at the critical disaster/mutual aid response service I work for is the technology just isn't there yet to make these apparatus worth the investment, and I would have to agree. Our job is risky enough as it is, no one wants to worry about your rig being a liability as well.
@@jericho1-4 -- Well, it's actually a "Hybrid" as it has a small diesel. If there is any indication that the truck will stay in service for more than, say, an hour, they would start the diesel. Of course, everything is in the details. It's possible that the diesel is so small that if it's pumping a LOT of water, all the diesel will do is extend the run time. It might even be they the diesel isn't a part of the main drive train.

i never got a ticket but i have been woke up and few hundred time and told i had to get out. even telling them i was out of hours and tired. they said they didn't care to get out. and 99% of the time i was parked legally. i wish we had cams back then
I used to fill up in NJ until Christie raised the fuel tax now it doesn’t pay to do so anymore. That was a pretty good price.
Yep happened to me right there. I came all the way from Canada and parked there. Next morning woke up with ticket on the window.

I'm a first time subscriber. Finally an intelligent man on TH-cam. Diesel fuel does control the world. The farmers know it, the truckers know it, industry knows it, railways know it, airlines know it, but the current administration doesn't have a clue that the price of fuel is driving inflation off the map. Airlines don't use diesel. Jet fuel is closer to kerosene.
Years ago I had to park at that rest stop but in front of the building next to 3 other trucks. When I woke up, there were cops busting the other drivers because they started on the other end instead of me first. I looked at the one of the cops and he looked at me. He gave to nod to leave, so I left in a hurry. All the other guys got tickets

I see you entering at 15W heading up to Vince Lombardi Rest Area. The NJ state troopers refer to the rest area as 13S. The troopers can care less about the truckers sleeping on the shoulders of the service area ramps. It's the Turnpike Authority that will not allow it nor allow abandoned vehicles along the shoulders of the entire length of the Pike due to hazardous conditions they cause. Unfortunately, some drivers use the shoulders as open lanes, sleepy drivers drift, and tend to crash into them while on the shoulders.

Boy you sure know your way around Jersey. I remember my very first time in New Jersey, had a 20 foot container on the back and it was late at night and somehow ended up going down the 1-9. What a nightmare that was. I use to run containers into New Jersey 2 to 3 times a week out of Tabernacle Town, better know as Montreal. When I seen the signs for 1-9 in your video it brought some memories for sure. Great video FSC. Have a great and a safe day, happy trails.

Its not full service, it a union thing in jersey where you cant pump your own fuel, have hollow points, or a gun.....
The Asian Mai shoe did a video on how truck drivers are getting kicked out of there trucks, and having their trucks towed by police because they find places to park since all the trucks stops and rests areas are full, as well as not being allowed to park on the side of the road and off ramps

Hey, the lift draw bridge is pretty new, they been building that new road way for a good few years because of the old bridge was taking on age as well the traffic was bad and tight, so they made it bigger to handle the weight and heavy traffic that goes thru their. Like you said in couple of vids, you go thru 78 in and out. That way you taken was new so, new look and everything.

I'm not a trucker. The politicians, police, and DOTs better get their acts together. The news is full of stories about the supply chain being strained or broken. Trains move a lot of freight, but so do trucks, and it's trucks that deliver it. The Fed bureaucrats made the rules about hours and e-logs without consideration of availabilty of parking. The police and DOTs to often rigorously enforce the rules and behave as if truckers are their sworn enemy. It's consumers who end up paying for all the tickets and fines, and prices are getting out of hand. Truckers are caught between rocks and hard places - drive in the hours given to them even if tired - or try and find a place to park and lose income - or stop in a convenient place when hours are up and get ticketed. Those trucks being ticketed in NJ were in nobody's way and that was pure chickenshit. Also got to wonder how much time truckers lose (and consumers pay for) looking for parking or being subjected to DOT inspections.

I've eaten a dozen or so tickets in Cali for parking! Honestly it's a business expense in my opinion. Pay the ticket and write it off on taxes doesn't effect your license or CSA score

I highly doubt an electric pumper truck is going to put much water on a fire before it dies or explodes in flames itself.
Its actually happened lol, CalFire was trying one out at a wildfire no less the fucker ran out of juice and the heat from the fire blew the batteries cause their cooling fans shut down. The other one I saw was compromised by water seepage in the battery compartment, yup water and electricity do not mix who would have thought about that lol. 12+ years in the critical disaster/mutual aid response service and have yet to see even a single municipality buy one, they'll test them out under real situations but won't pony up the huge price tag for something that is more a liability than reliable.

I got a $10 parking ticket at a turnpike service area once for parking in a similar spot. Cop waited for me to walk back to the rest area to pee. Ticket was on the truck when I came back. Dick move if you ask me.
But, I just considered it to be the cost of parking in that space. Paid it and moved on lol.

Steve I was up in Ohio last week well I delivered in Wheeling Wv and picked up more stuff to be rebuilt and it was when all the high winds and rain was going on so I got soaked and only put a couple straps on the stuff but got back over on 70 pulled in rest area since it had stopped raining so was putting more straps on the stuff and this dot cop pulls in behind me well I'm up on the deck wrapping the straps around and he was on his radio guess he ran my tags or something so I got down started walking towards him he pulls out drives back to other end of lot and started same thing to another truck well I was taking my time and was back up on trailer here he comes again I walk to back of deck held my arms up and yelled what's up with you he pulls out gets back on 70 goes 100 yards stops and goes threw median almost causing a wreak and goes to the other side rest area and does the same thing except he woke that driver up got him out of truck walked him to back if his trailer and was pointing to the lines is all I could figure well guy was over like 2 inches he gave him a ticket for improper parking 2 inches over the line I got on CB and that's what driver said he done to him I didn't think they could wake you up when your on your brake but Ohio has always hated truck drivers since the 70s when I started hauling threw that state I hate it but they sure want there shit just don't stay drop it off and get the hell out of there state it took them forever to raise the speed limits but don't get caught driving over it unless you got deep pockets . well sorry for my long rant it is over but stay safe stay healthy and keep the video's coming

The problem is if your on the turnpike, you have local drivers the live in the area using the parking area as a private parking lot, they park their trucks and have someone pick them up leaving the truck there until they come back.
I used to pull the throttle lock out a hair not enough to raise the throttle but not enough to stall the engine & could run all day with the Jake on. Don't know if that works on your rig? Love that truck by the way

That strip club is called "Satin Dolls" on Route 17 south, Lodi, N.J. It's the same club in the HBO series Soprano's. They called it "Bada Bing" in the show. James Gandolfini (RIP) played Tony Soprano and actually grew up in Park Ridge, N.J. not far from the strip club. The town of Park Ridge, N.J. named a street after him.

I feel your pain with no A/C in your truck. I delivered for 31 years with ups with no A/C in my package car. It can get pretty rough!
Besides infrastructure, like build it & walk away, they have it all figured out, like where to put you guys or where to have truck stops. Up in mass, we have one where congrats, you made it to beverly. On 128, you got like 5 or 10 miles till 128 is a dirt road or turn around. Very important in an area where trucks will have a quick turnaround & kick in the ass to leave. Can think of areas before that'd be handier🤷♂️
This is why I quit trucking enjoy your high prices at the supermarket in New Jersey.

Fyi- if you take 139 (Depressed Highway) and transition to 1&9 north before the Whitpenn Bridge you can take 1&9 North NJTP and then into the Vince....

I've been trucking for 36 years and I'm still out here trucking and there has been a mortally serious lack of truck parking all over America (except Alabama) since the U S Government allowed everyone from all over the world whose feet could reach the pedals to come to America and attempt to function as professional truck drivers!
There are more than 45% more trucks on the road than there were in the 1980s and almost none of that money is being used to build truck parking to accommodate the huge influx of foreign drivers.
The extra tax dollars of every imaginable kind are just going into politician's pockets!
Before I got into trucking i worked at the Grover Cleveland plaza on the tpk & a drunk driver came flying down the ramp and ran right into the back of a truck sitting in the side.

Those massive dump trucks used in open cut mines, and freight trains are electric, because of the huge amount of torque that they produce...
The issue is all the sub systems that will draw the battery down on the apparatus, the heavy equipment your talking about can carry a lot more battery cells than a standard fire fighting apparatus can, so its either sacrifice critical systems like external lighting pumping power or water tank size and equipment to accommodate more batteries or stick with what works for now till the tech advances a little more. Bare in mind fire apparatus are on average on scene of a fire for a minimum of five hours for a moderate structural fire, for a wildfire it can be weeks so recharging becomes an issue as well.
@@jericho1-4 They use a massive diesel engine too turn a turbine, and produce electricity for the high torque electric motors. Trains are often referred too, as diesel electric.
@@Itmakesyouthink As a specialist in the critical disaster/mutual aid response services I still don't see this idea working. even with a small diesel engine as a redundant operations system. I had this argument with a proponent of the all EV mandate, they literally said if a city bus can do it so to can a fire engine. What they fail to realize is they are two different vehicles doing two entirely different tasks. EV's have their uses just not in first responder services or the vast majority of commercial Transport in my opinion until the tech goes aways farther to meet the needs of the industries.
Reminds me of the days of the old Roman Empire. Soldiers marauding through the community harassing and taxing citizens just trying to make a living. Serving their masters unapologetically and with glee. This is how people that have never had a real job behave.

Every time I go past a Jersey weigh station I wonder why trucks can’t park there. Especially at night when they are closed. Makes no sense as even when they are open there’s tons of room for truckers to park. Put in some portapotties Only in Jersey do we complain that there is shortages due to not enough trucks and then give the existing trucks issues. I only wish for the day that people walk into a voting booth and realize we need to keep trying new leaders until they work for us and not themselves.

Just think of it knowing you might end up getting a ticket is getting a room you never stayed in LOL that's how I look at it.
I did that in Illinois on the toll road last month I pulled in to the service plaza The Oasis it was full I parked on the ramp with a bunch of other trucks woke up to $100 parking ticket. Nice thing is Illinois will let you sleep so just put the ticket right on your window lol
I notice you use your phone as your mapping. I've seem other truckers using the larger tablet style Garmin Dezl OTR units that are made for OTR work and better mapping and such. Is there any reason you prefer your smaller phone to the Garmins besides cost?

When I replaced the door seal it got stiffer. It takes more force to close right.
That emblem on the trunk of that white car looked like a Lincoln emblem because Rolls-Royce has 2 R's overlapping each other & they would be gold color

Hey fsc just had to say what the heck did we just go back in time to the 60's I've only seen full service fuel stations and drive up hamburger joints on TV man talk about old school service love it 100% oh and when cars and trucks made from real cold hard steel not this new plastic and aluminum junk.
I'm guessing you fueled up to head out east in Fremont, IN near the toll road? I lived not far from there in Michigan for many years.
