My dad was into airgun back in the day. I was 9 in 92 and I had my hands on so many 880s back then.

I had the Daisy Powerline 977, basically a match grade, clip fed 880 back in the 80's. Good ammo had me shooting micro holes. I used to impress all the south Detroit kids.

The sights the 977 came with look very impressive!

Yes there's a good reason why the 880 is still so popular. At my local wal-mart, they can fully stock them on the shelf, then a week later they're already gone. This same thing has been going on for years now at that store. Other than the 760 (that also sells like crazy), the 880 is the cheapest, most accurate, and decently powerful air rifle available. The new model 880's, with the plastic receiver, are actually quite good. The receiver is made of some sort of ABS or other engineering resin, which is very tough. The stock and forearm used to be polystyrene in the old days, which can be brittle if handled roughly or dropped, but the new models use a slightly different type of plastic that is more flexible and stronger. Also the newer molding process is much more precise so you don't get the flashing and pits in the plastic. Newer technology when it comes to plastic manufacturing is superior.
Also the valve design inside the 880 is FAR superior to the old design. I think Daisy changed it at least twice in the past before settling on the newer style. Your old 880's are the older design and cannot be modified with the Daisy high-power parts, but the new ones can be.
You can take your '92 model 880 and install a cast metal pump handle like your other one has. It's an easy swap, as long as you get the cast lever, not the very old two-piece stamped steel version (which won't fit). I just go to ebay and find an old 880 with a cast metal pump lever on it, buy the gun, working or not doesn't matter, and use the metal pump lever to put on my new 880's. It makes a world of difference in how the gun feels!

Thanks for the info! I’ve not looked at a new 880. I’ve got the newer version of the 840 and wasn’t impressed by the “improvements” they made to it over the original 840 I had as a kid.
I’m looking forward to the parts arriving for my ‘81 Crosman 760 so I can shoot it again. Hopefully I didn’t screw up the bore with all the dumb things I’d shoot out of it as a kid. I’m still partial to Crosman over Daisy for the multi pump guns even though these 880’s have impressed the heck out of me. I need to ask my brother if he still has the Daisy 856 he got in the 80’s. I remember pouring over the specs for different guns and picking it out for him and my Dad order it when we were kids. It was a really capable air rifle that was way more comfortable to pump up than these 880’s.
I’m always impressed and amazed that the pneumatic rifles still work after 30 or more years of sitting around. I wish I could say the same for my Crosman 2200 Magnum but it stopped working properly not long after I bought it. From the videos I’ve watched it seems like they all tended to fail but it sounds like it’s the valve and they can be repaired without too much work. That’s a project for the future.

The very first version was called the POWERKING on the butt plate . They seem fairly rare , seen one on Ebay but it didn't last long. I have the Ted Williams ( a Sears version crafted by Daisy ) same gun but has a brass colored receiver and a lighter colored stock and forearm . Yes mostly metal . Still have it , got it for Christmas . Plastic is what happens when China builds them.

      @airgunsofalaska  ปีที่แล้ว

It’s hard for me to get very passionate about any new airgun that’s made out of so much plastic. They just feel cheap and toy like to me.
One would think they could still make them from metal as they are saving so much money on labor costs by manufacturing them in China.

Gunsmiths like the hollow ground screw drivers because they don't bugger up the screw slot provided that you use the right size.

117 799 and 822 was the ones with the clips but in 2009 and 2010 they made a wood stocked 822 with no clip

I had no idea they offered a wood stock version of the 822 within the last 12-13 years. I wouldn’t mind having one of those in my collection 👍

You know that you can replace that pump handle with a metal one. I did that with my anniversary edition.

I did just that around a month or so ago. 😀 I bought a parts 880 off eBay and installed the metal pump handle. Super easy to swap out. 👍😆

I have got a very VERY old Daisy rifle from my grandparents time, the magasine is in the tip og the barrel, all steel ,,, but it misses the rear sight.

I had a Daisy lever action type BB gun in the early 80’s that was like that. I don’t know when it was built? I’m not sure when Daisy moved away from that type of magazine system?

🤣😂😅😆 That’s the best comment ever! I totally busted up when I read it!
Our weather has fricking sucked ass since July. We are now going into like the 14th consecutive week of rain. It has rained damn near every single day and I’m not exaggerating. It’s been awful! I hate it. I’ve never seen it this bad and I’ve lived here since the 80’s.
This near constant rain is actually why I got my airguns out for something it do outside and that led me to making the channel. It’s been a nice distraction from our miserable fucking weather. I just want it to snow so it’ll stop raining.
