I'm watching these old rifle videos. I go out to Kansas once a year to my Daughters. I could cut loose there. But I don't want to spend more than say $150 ish. +(-) I'd like a better air pistol first at the same price. There are so many choices.

I watch the video again you said it real easy to pull the hammer back that make me think there probably a little hammer spring then stock and he probably took out the valve spring completely out or put a super light valve spring like out of a pen in it for it to do what it's doing. It's common in air gun mods for guys to do that for power. Lighter the hammer spring the lighter the trigger will be as well there not as much tension on the sear so it's easier to pull the trigger.🎯👍✌️👌💯🥂

You are costing me a lot of money, Nibs, so that I can goof around, too. 😂
But, seriously, thank you for the always educational videos. You do a great job.

Great stuff Nibs. It looks like Daisy tried to make a competitor to the Crosman 760 with that Daisy 856! If you have a rifled barrel version of each that would be a nice comparison in FPS and to see at 20-30 yards. Nice work.

If the barrel length is different lengths that why the power is different they should have the same valve. it also could have to do with the 880 the valve stem spring if it is week on the 880 the hammer can be letting more air out and it will make more power. Some time when I mod the air guns I've seen this happen if I put a valve stem spring with a lot less tension and a heavier hammer spring I have to pull back the hammer to hold air but it will have a lot more power. I try to find a even balance so it holds air and I get more power. Hope that helps you a little bit.✌️👍👌💯🎯

I've discovered a better way to increase the power of an 880, and it's not a home-made mod, but a real upgrade using available Daisy upgrade parts. I don't think many people have done this, but I have built three 880's this way and it significantly increases power, along with increasing the number of available pumps to 15 instead of 10. If interested in how to do this mod (I'm sure you're already familiar with complete disassembly), then let me know and I'll tell you all about it and the parts required. This is not a free mod however and specific parts need to be purchased to replace original parts, and a metal pump lever must be acquired (I found two on ebay and one from a trashed old 880 at a pawn shop). The plastic pump lever is too flimsy to handle the increased compression after the mod is completed. I mean, you could do it, but it would bend and flex too much. Or you can upgrade the plastic lever by drilling holes and mounting a piece of steel bar stock to the lever to stiffen it, if you wanted. I've done this also, and it works fine, but looks a bit odd. Best solution is to replace the plastic lever with an old metal one. If you decide you want to do this mod, you'll have an 880 with great power and range. I also did this mod to my old Daisy 822 (.22 cal version of the 880).

The air bleeding off has to do with the valve stem and valve stem spring the spring can be week and not putting enough pressure on the valve stem to hold air. Some time some valve have o rings that could get bad as well if you put oil it could stop it some times if not completely bad. ✌️👍👌💯🥂🎯

The 880 was rebuilt and modded by Mike Best, so no telling what was changed. A stock 880 doesn’t require cocking first?

@@WalnutandSteel no that explains a lot I kind of figured something had been done/ moded to it. That or it had sat for a long time. I do lot of build/ modding of air gun and I have a good filling that the hammer spring is to Strong or the valve spring is to light and that the reason why it does that when you pull the hammer back it allows the valve spring to push the stem to close enough to hold air. That why I left the comment it a easy as changing the spring to stop it from doing that. It's difficult to get the springs exactly right when modding in less you have a way to adjust the hammer that I have found. In that case I leave them stock. Hope this helps you out.🎯👍✌️👌💯🥂

Found an 856 Eagle here in the UK but can't seem to get any compression. Any ideas?

I know this may sound simple but did you cock the bolt before you pumped it? That is a common issue on these platforms
