Here you can watch one lap in 7MIN44 BTG, we are far from the full potential of the car...
I started the lap with cold low pressure tires and so i needed 3/4kms to be in the good windows (that's why i had few slide moment at the beginning :-)
Around 5/6 secs of traffic especially the two porsches that i needed to let pass because they were faster in curve, but they made me loose time after on the straights!
Tires were also very used already with 15000kms of street use and around 10 nordschleife lap
If everything optimal a lap in 7.2X btg in normal ps4s tire would be possible and 7.1X if semi slick tires...
The battery pack became red at the end but immediately gone back to green when i gone into the paddock, this is due to one supercharger just before the lap who can cause overheating if you go straight away to the track

forged Martian wheels in 20' 9.5 front 10.5 rear on michelin ps4s 265/40/20 FRONT 295/35/20 REAR
So something similar to the tesla track package with out semi slick and carbon ceramic brakes

The way it picks up speed is almost cartoonish!!! :p But that car needs some good semislicks...Those PS4S were hurting.... :p

Just now, Model S Track package kit came out with Goodyear Supercar 3R’s and forged wheels. Carbon ceramics Sebastian already has.
@@profile. Biggest issue after the brakes is suspension and they didnt upgrade that. Money grab, they know they cant be greedy if they upgrade suspension, because that will increase already inflated price of the track pack upgrade and nobody would order it.
This way, every plaid dad can feel good about himslef 😆

The way it accelerates from 100-200 is nothing short of mind blowing..
Nice encounter with the Porsches. It shows the amazing acceleration and power of the Tesla, but also the limits of the tires and the weight costing lots of corner speed. The Plaid also badly needs a good aero package for downforce and stability. Great stuff, thanks!
as in an air brake maybe (the weight translates to grip )
But you need more grip for more weight... To get the same G force.

Heavy, tires, low downforce and average brakes for the power. Tesla will eventually come out with something purpose built.

probably not much, this car doesnt want to turn, it has amazing acceleration, but that about it. It's not a track car, and never will be, the screen with the cameras is great though.
You can already find reviews of the plaid track package
The tires is only the big difference, brakes or the track package are same same of what i have

Nice lap, would like to see the full potential, too! A couple of (silly?) questions: 1) what's the perfectly symmetrical 'crack' on the windscreen that comes out from the bottom at the centre and extends close to the top on the sides? 2) What's the red device mounted on the top right of the windscreen? I can't see either of these on your previous Tesla lap, uploaded in March this year. Thanks for any info!

The red thing is a transponder to know exactly where my car is on the track, this is mandatory on every private track day at Nurburgring

The fact that it could take on a 911 says a lot. The carrera was holding him up so much. I'd bet with a set of cup 2 Rs it even can get up to the gt3.

@@sebastianvittel74 Apparently it detects that tracm tire and changes the tuning for suspension, torque vectoring, basically adjusts everything for that exact spec which seems like a pretty decent advantage to me

@@sebastianvittel74 I guess Tesla and broken windshields go hand in hand during winter time. For me it's a yearly operation on my model S, every rock that left a mark on my windshield makes the glass crack when/if the heater is turned to defrost for too long. Scandinavia it costs 1680 euros to replace the windshield, 200e under insurance.

Pas nécessairement utile car ce que j’ai sur l’auto est similaire, il me faudrai juste des pneus plus performants…

No we need the tesla software for it, but honnestly better semi slick tire will be a WAY more gain than a topspeed unrestricted 😎

I would love to see a follow up using equal tires to the Porsche. Can you tell us the width and make of the tire used? This proved the handling exceeded my expectations as most Plaid videos feature a drag race so I was wondering if it could brake and turn. With you at the wheel this is no longer a question. Please consider giving the car another chance using equal tires.

Keep up with a GT3? Where? The silver GT3 pulled a 30 second gap on it in less than half a lap. It can't even keep up with a Panamera in the corners, let alone a GT3 911. It's only quick on straights, that's it.

@@derbigpr500 It catches the GT3 in the straights like it's a Honda Civic. It's only a matter of time before the batteries get lighter and the Plaids get quicker around the corners. Tesla started building fast cars in 2017, The GT3 made its debut in 1999, and the 911 has been going around the Nurburgring since 1968.
The electric three motor Taycan It's supposed to have a thousand horsepower.. watch how quickly It cannibalizes 911 sales shortly after it's released.

The Tesla acceleration is insane though !!
Nordschleife is 50% Suspension 60% Driver and the rest ist acceleration ;) Saw enough videos where porsches or other supercars got taken over by drivers with cars that have half the price and power. Porsche is exceptional good with suspension, you can see in the video that he has sometimes fight the tesla. Give the Plaid a gread suspension and Tires/brakes than i think it is realy on

Nice run with the GT3.. It's definitely nimble in the corners but that guy gave up on the final straight because he knew his Porsche was going to get gapped.
Batteries will get lighter, and electric cars will get quicker around corners.
True, like already a Standard Range Model 3 has a curb weight of 1692kg including driver, 1617kg excluding, which is literally the same amount a BMW 330i sedan weighs.

Owner has this Plaid configured to the Tesla Track package minus the wider wheels. There is not much of a difference.
hmm a lightly tuned a110 (mp-r) with 300hp does well under 7 minutes btg time in traffic. amazing how much lard ass weight kills performance even with 1000hp
The mpr you are talking about is not the same league of the tesla, it weight 1200kgs less 😂

Great driving. Very impressive for a family saloon car. When Tesla broke the record for electric cars they lift and coast 1/3 the track over the finish line. With simple brake upgrades like on this car its a total different animal. They just announced the Track Package, what do you think about it? Is the NDA lifted for the topspeed run?! 😁
Not really impressive considering it's slower on track than any other big performance saloon like a BMW M5, Panamera Turbo S or a GT63 AMG, despite weighing LESS than those, and having 400+ hp on them. Speaks a lot about how slow it is in the corners when it's so much faster in the straights and still slower on track overall. The track package is just carbon brakes and semi-slick tires, so not much different than what they used for a Nurburgring run.

Now these are for the 2023 models, you might be looking at a model from a specific year.
For the lap times:
BMW M5 - 7:35
Panamera Turbo S - 7:29
GT 63 S AMG - 7:27
Model S Plaid - 7:35
(all times are in the long 12.9 mile config of the track for fairness)
So Plaid has an 8 second gap it needs to fill. I think the combo of the new, grippier tires, and the brakes that wont fade, will make up the difference. New top speed will help a little in final straight as well.
you have to understand the stock tires and brakes were not the greatest. Brakes probably gave out early in the lap, thus the coasting throughout. Tires also weren't the best, Pilot 4S.

The way it corners and get so unsettled doing it is nerve-racking. And to think its fitted with better tires than stoxk. Hard times for those tires as the cat is a bloated beast.
This one is still limited to top speed of 260kmh We need another lap with the new track package, ceramic brakes and new tyres 320+ end speed

Watching this the obvious weight and perhaps lack of racing history hold the Tesla back. But the fact it’s there and competitive can not be denied. I’m not a fan of Elon but he has driven some serious tech into the market. And speaking of which the yoke could be rather interesting if you experience what we called a tankslapper when it happened to a motorcycle. Get tapped , in a corner, car gets loose . Oops , one arm flailing and one on the yoke.
I speak from ignorance , I’m not a racer . I drive a manual cayman 4.0 because the trans gives me something to do while driving and I bought it because I love the sound. A growl rapidly changing to a spine tingling wail. Joy.
I'd try reaiming the camera, mirror covers a lot of the view, only like a quarter of the screen is of the track

Would those 911s been able to pass you if you had the Tesla/Goodyear semi-slicks? It's amazing what a family car can do in the right hands! I would love a video like this, but add a voice over commentary of your thoughts while you are driving. I do hope the Tesla roadster will be released to prove that us Americans can indeed "go-round-corners" haha.

First both gt3 were on sticky semi slick cup 2 R tire 😁
But the first porsche who passed is the same of mine, a 992 gt3, this car with same tire than the plaid (doesn’t mather which tires ) same skilled driver, will be 20/30 secs quicker than the plaid here 🫣
It is the best track car on the Nurburgring, so not the same league than the plaid
The plaid we must compare with taycan/bmw m5 cs/amg 63/ rs6 etc
@@sebastianvittel74 Issue is that Plaid is faster than Pretty much every other high performance sedan even tho it was tested on steel brakes, limited to 160mph and didn't even have a track mode let alone a track package... So one kinda wants to compare it to the more track focused cars

Do you have any vibrations in the car? I love mine but there are always some kind of vibrations going on. It simply doesn't give confidence like a Porsche does for example. No idea if it's just my wheel/tires or something else. Did you do some special track setup to fix vibrations? You seem pretty knowledgable so I thought I would just ask.
What you describe should be a wrong tire balance, probably when tires has been change or even wrong tire pressure
There is no suspension setup as the camber cannot be adjusted on that car with stock arms as i have

The truck pack from Tesla stiffens the suspension as well, which may be worse in that case.

Without the motor sound it looks hard to gauge the actual corner approach speed, he’s going into corners way to quick getting massive understeer, also the brakes aren’t man enough for the speed of the vehicle, the price for the optional carbon ceramic brake package is ludicrous at $20,000.
