    I can tell you what happened on the spinout is he applied too much throttle with the wheels still turned. I did the same exact thing in my Plaid. When you have stability control off and torque bias 60% rear, a stab of the throttle will cause massive oversteer. More than my previous 650hp Vette on stock tires would oversteer. Instant torque is different than gradual power in an ICE vehicle.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It’s just that the wheels were just slightly turned while I wasnt even really pressing the throttle…

    • @BurnsRubber
      @BurnsRubber ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@autogefuehl Looks like the spin initiated on turn entry. Suspect Thomas wasn’t applying the throttle and was transitioning from brake to throttle. My guess is induction braking on the front axle transferred weight forward which caused the rear tires to break adhesion which initiated the spin. Equivalent to applying too much trail braking in a mid-engine race-car or lift-off oversteer in a front wheel drive car.
      Tesla needs to reprogram their throttle map to eliminate the one-pedal drive effect. Ideally they should tune the motors to simulate ICE compression braking. This is how our brains are programmed to drive cars. You can tell Thomas was completely surprised by the spin. I don’t see that he did anything wrong. He should have been able to comfortably take that corner while continuing his commentary.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +15

    This is a luxury family car that can go against any hyper car and not look bad… and it costs a fraction of the price. Once Tesla releases their roadster, which will also cost fraction of the other cars, it will be on a league of its own.

    • @3KRacing
      @3KRacing ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rkan2 This is wildly underrated when comparing the Plaid vs super cars. As much as I am a fan of an amazing engine, it's truly works of art, but there's no way I'm paying 250k+ for a two seater with no storage that can be beaten on 95% of paved street roads (non race track) by a 4 door super saloon hatchback with class leading storage... It's a non starter and even further id probably just buy the model x plaid over plaid for the same reason. 95% the speed, but 4x the functionality.

    • @csguak
      @csguak 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is simply no competition , when it comes to cost to performance ratio. I could literally buy multiple Model S Plaid, trash them for fun AND still have leftover money, because I didn't waste a million on ICE counterparts that performs inferior to this car...
      In addition, not everybody loves the annoying engine noise and that godawful smell. I mean it's called engine noise and not engine music for a reason. Tesla simply slays silently...

    @ColinFox ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Something people tend to forget is that the Model S is a car you can compare with hypercars like the Lamborghini Hurrican *AND* the Mercedes S-Class sedan. Regardless whether you think the Tesla or the "other" car in either of those comparisons wins out, the fact that they can be compared at all is amazing. Would you ever compare a Hurrican with an S-Class? No, that would be absurd. There are no points on which they are comparable. But the Model S can compare favorably to both (I prefer my Model S over the last S class I test drove, by far. Your taste may differ).
    The fact that we have a non-polluting, *absurdly fast* yet comfortable and practical family sedan that is beating the crap out of the competition is stunning. I'm sure other makers will bring out cars that are faster than the Plaid (the Lucid Sapphire, for example), and that's fine. The Plaid will still be a monster, there will now just be other monsters.
    I know that petrolheads bemoan the death of ICE, but honestly EVs are better in every way except one, and that is the energy density of the battery packs. Gasoline has about 7x the energy density per unit mass of a battery pack. So we're driving on the gasoline equivalent of a 3 gallon tank. However, there are many interesting developments on the battery chemistry front. If we can achieve 3 doublings of efficiency, we would then surpass gasoline for energy density. But just one doubling would be sufficient to eliminate any advantage that ICE had, and that's coming.

    • @BurnsRubber
      @BurnsRubber ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with all of that but you are naive sir if you think $100k+ Model S is non polluting. Not just the electricity you are consuming to charge it but all of the rare Earths and petroleum that was used to produce it.

      Yes, curious what will Porsche try this time because they do not even have a machine to create motors of this caliber

      They tried to beat the stock version on the nurburgring with the taycan and only did it by 2 seconds, with track pack and speed limit upgrade it won't have a chance again.

    It's strange how Thomas, this time around, didn't compare it with another car as 😂😊 usual; if you were reviewing a European vehicle, you would use Tesla as a comparison bait.
    The end summary was even funny... lol

    1:15 those tires are so gray. They need some tire-shine treatment badly.

      Stock brakes stop it from 60mph in 104' for a 4,000#+ 4dr super luxury sedan that's class LEADING Distance.

    For sure the problem was the round steering wheel, with the yolk you would have saved it ....kidding 🙂

      nope, hardly moved steering wheel, hardly moved my foot - that came super surprising, another colleague also almost spinned out

      @@autogefuehl Thats strange. The car is not fit for that condition then. A gti could have gone through there all out easily.

    That spin w/o evident driver error (no gas lift off for instance) shows how idiotic Tesla marketing is. This is by no means a car that should come near any race track.

      You can indeed actually see in the speedometer that I didnt change speed while that happened
