  • In this video you will learn how to fix a Weed Eater or String Trimmer that is hard to start, Bogs Down while pulling on the throttle, will not idle, will not run or requires you to leave the choke on to keep it running. I will show you a fix that you can try right away without taking anything apart. If that doesn't work I will show you how to quickly pull off the carburetor to clean the filter screen and cut slots in the fuel adjustment screws for easy adjustment now and in the future. This whole process will take you approximately 15 to 30 minutes to do and you trimmer, blower or any other 2-cycle engine will run like new if your problem is the typical carburetor issue that these units run into.

    This is the best, simple, to the point, video I have found on TH-cam, for fixing trimmer carb problems. Thank you for posting this video and for not using a bunch of pointless, gimmicky BS.

    Great video tried the high side adjustment you mentioned after mine kept bogging down, it worked perfectly. Thanks for the great video!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! Exactly the problem my machine had. I just opened up the H side screw by 1/4 turn, and bingo, runs like new! This had been bugging me for a few years. I had to set it to 1/2 choke to make it run, and still did not run reliably, would easily stall. It was running lean, obviously, and I did not know why. I tried cleaning the carb externally using carb cleaner, but that did nothing. I suspected that the filter at the end of the gas line in the tank could be clogged. Also suspected that the diaphragm in the pump had hardened. Note that the two screws on my machine are not marked H and L. But I turned the same screw you did in the video, and it worked.

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I finally have my 7 year old Craftsman weed trimmer running nicely. For years I always had to run it on 1/2 choke because when it was wide open it would stall out on me when I gave it throttle. Watched a few other vids recently which clued me in on the 2 carb fuel adjusting screws, but only your video gave me the idea to try to use an electrical insulated wire connector to turn the darn screws. My yellow wire connector was too big, but my blue ones fit great once I cut slits along the sides. Had my carburetor fined tuned nicely in about 15 minutes - and I didn't have to buy a special tool. So thanks very much for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful!

    I like adding the notches for high and low adjustment, I would change the sequence to show cleaning after creating the notches just in case some filings end up in your carb.

    I have a question about the fuel adjustment screws: how exactly do you adjust them? Should they be screwed all the way in, all the way out, half-way, etc...? I've never done this before and I've been reading they're not always properly adjusted out of the factory. Mine has been sitting for 3 years and I'm doing a complete deep clean. Thanks for the great video!

    • @helpinguonline
      @helpinguonline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video should answer your question. If you get the screws out of adjustment and have to start over... turn all the way in till they stop and then turn out 1-1/2 turns and adjust from there. All explained in this video below.....

    I would like to see you fix mine I have stripped it, cleaned it and renewed cylinder and manifold gaskets and a new carbureter the compression is good and the spark is strong , it starts for about two seconds then stops and that is it. It will even not start on easy start fluid. I have two Johnson outboards that have been stripped and rebuilt without any problems so I am not stupid but this brush cutter has beaten me.

    I used a cut off wheel on my Murry weed eater and even after I cleaned the carb it still wouldn't run without the choke on, I turn the out side screw about 1 3rd turn and the inside screw less than a quarter turn now it starts fast, idles good and I can move the throttle to full throttle and it revs smooth and fast, no more dieing or rough running. I seen in another video the guy recommended that you buy a tool for $20 to make adjustments. not going to do that.

    I've got the very similar, but improved model w/ the extra bearing, & power start driver w/ the Funky 5 sided driver. But I'm having the exact same symptom/s as other guy's stalling w/ a mind of it's own whenever it wants to. Inspected the back crank case area & it all looks fine, bearing, gasket & such. Put a new carb on it months ago & she used it some. Screen on top of carb was fine. Tested few days ago & it ran okay. Put a new Champion plug in, stalls w/ a mind of it's own & NO amount of carb adjustment prevents it from stalling when it wants to. Any ideas? - thanks

    • @bertgrau9246
      @bertgrau9246 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes get rid of that champion spark plug, try to find an Autolite. Some say an E3, but those are junk too, I think E3 and champion are the same, junk

    What I don't understand is why troybilt company made the screw heads to carry special tools in the first place, if we could improvise them like you did; do they just want to make it impossible for anyone to trouble them?

    I have a weed eater running like shit, I bought a new carb, spark plug and fuel lines with new filter for the gas tank and it's still running like crap after adjusting the high low. Any idea what else could be the problem? Could I be losing compression?

    • @helpinguonline

      hard to say without looking at it. One thought that comes to mind is to check your Spark Arrestor Screen and exhaust port...

      I would recommend following your owners manual. Having said that I go a little richer on my 2 cycle engine fuel mixtures for better engine lubrication and I have not had problems with plugs fouling, etc. I also use ethanol free gas.

    • @helpinguonline

      do what works best for your machine... the primer bulb just gets the fuel into the carburetor and back into the gas tank.

    • @helpinguonline
      @helpinguonline  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You may need to rebuild your carburetor at some point in time when the diaphragms get hard and or the internal filter clogs up… Etc.

    • @user-wk8gg2uj8b
      @user-wk8gg2uj8b 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@helpinguonline by internal filter do you mean the screen. I also cleaned that I cleaned the spark arrestor. I also bought a new spark plug. the diaphragms looked decent and not hard. I guess a rebuild kit like you wouldn’t hurt but that’s my last straw after that I’ve given up and going to throw it out
