Switch 2 Won’t Be as Strong as Deck
Nintendo Switch 2 performance boost to fall short of Valve's Steam Deck (tweaktown.com)
According to the TH-camr, in handheld mode, the Switch 2 will run at 5 watts and feature a fanless cooling solution, and in docked mode, it will be bumped up to a range of 15 to 30 watts, depending on the load of the game. To compensate for this bump in wattage, Nintendo will introduce a cooling solution. As for raw performance, the rumored chip inside the Nintendo Switch 2 is designed with power efficiency in mind, and when compared to the Steam Deck, Moore's Law is Dead says its average FPS will be slightly lower.
The TH-cam expects a game that runs at 90 FPS on the Steam Deck to run at 60FPS on the Switch 2. If a game runs at 60FPS on the Steam Deck, the TH-camr expects the Switch 2 to run at around 40FPS with VRR being used. Additionally, there will be the inclusion of NVIDIA upscaling technology such as DLSS tanks to the NVIDIA GPU. There is also the possibility of raytracing
Steam Deck Modding App Gets Access to its First Game
Stardew Valley players on Steam Deck can test out the new Nexus Mods app | PC Gamer
"We're delighted to announce the alpha release of the Nexus Mods app-our next-generation mod manager," senior community manager Pickysaurus announced. "This is a very early build with limited features and only supports Stardew Valley (more games are coming later), but it's the perfect time for pioneers like you to help shape its future."
Not only that, but the alpha version of the app is available for both Windows and Linux, which means Stardew players can test it on Steam Deck. Much as I'm digging the 'Dew so far, I've been thinking about trying out a few mods, like one that makes time move a bit slower in the mines. Now I don't have to Google a bunch of guides on how to get mods working on Steam Deck, I can just try the new app. See, this is why I didn't want to play it in the first place. Now I'm gonna be sucked down a rabbit hole of the best Stardew Valley mods.
The app has been in the works for a while, and will eventually succeed the site's current mod manager, Vortex, which has been around since 2018. The new app won't 100% replace Vortex, but "eventually the app will become the primary mod manager and Vortex will no longer be updated officially," Pickysaurus said in response to a user comment, noting that "We're a long way from that."
As for what you can do with the Nexus Mods app in the alpha:
Install mods for Stardew Valley on Steam and GOG (Xbox Game Pass support is coming later).
Log in to your Nexus Mods account and download mods directly from the website.
Cleanly enable and disable mods in your loadout.
Easily roll your game to a non-modded state by un-managing the game or uninstalling the app.
Get diagnostic information about common issues in your load order, including: missing dependencies, SMAPI or game version issues, potentially dangerous mod installed (XNB edits)
    In-app editing of config files (e.g. config.json)

The Gamecube too. It was reasonably understood that the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, but not as powerful as the Xbox. It's only with the Wii in 2006 that they pivoted to lower cost/lower power devices. The Wii roughly matched the original Xbox in terms of performance 5 years after the Xbox came out, and at a time when everyone else was pushing for high definition.

The new Nexus Mod app alone makes the Steam Deck better than Switch 2. Being able to _easily_ mod your games on a handheld is a killer feature.

It was already super easy, all you had to do was use Lutris to run Vortex and link the game folder. Two additional super simple steps. Or you could just drag and drop your mods in the games directory or mod folder manually just like windows.
Maybe Bethesda games are a bit obnoxious, mostly just because of the absurd amount of mods people seem to use for their games and the complicated load orders that result. I haven't done that because certain other RPGs made Bethesda's unplayable to me, namely CDPR and Larian's.
I'll admit that's an exception to my point though. I have all of the same mods as I use on PC installed for CP2077 TW3, and BG3 though, and I wouldn't say it was noticeably more difficult to do on my deck.

same for me although i had the OG Nintendo switch. Despite it being heavier and bigger, I can play the steam deck for hours without my hand cramping up. @Barrdian หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I kind of disagree with your first part of the video. There are already consistent leaks about Nintendo's new console and the worst scenario in terms of raw power will be around ps4/steamdeck's base level without including capabilities of dlss, tensor/shader cores etc. The general consensus is that the switch 2 will be closer to series s than ps4 or steam deck. It is possible that steamdeck will outperform in some cases but this will not be the norm. Nintendo's new hardware will have games optimized for the hardware with all the goodies from nvidia. Steam deck will probably keep the massive library of games, the advantages of been a console pc and even if it does not hold its ground it terms of effective performance against nintendo's next console, I will keep using it for most of my time anyway.

My old roommate and spiritual brother bought me an OLED steam deck as a belated Christmas present for a few years missing out on gifts for me. It basically immediately replaced my switch as my portable gaming system AND basically opened pc gaming to me and quickly became one of my favorite toys. This thing is fantastic and I love it. And I can properly play kingdom hearts on it, unlike the switch. Sorry Nintendo, this thing is just better at doing what I want it to do than the switch. Still a good system for fun though.

Honestly speaking 2 hours and a half or 3 hours is a really good battery life, what nintendo should seriously improve which has been a problem since the 3DS is sleep mode battery drain, it's ridiculous, i can leave my PSVita for a month in standby/sleep, and the battery will still be at 50%+ and it's the original battery, haven't replaced it yet, meanwhile my 2DS and Switch barely last a week.
And one more thing they should do is stop dropping frequencies/voltages of stuff that barely affects battery life, like the RAM on the regular Switch, 99% of performance issues on the switch are due to ultra slow RAM, they stupidly underclocked it, it uses LPDDR4 at DDR2 speeds, it's ridiculous, if you put the ram at it's "default" speed of 2133mhz, you will only lose maybe 3 or 4 minutes of battery life and solve the vast majority of issues regarding performance.

3:34 there is so much wrong with what you just said, soft modding was hardware patched before redbox, hard modding is possible on any switch, yes that includes the oled, the lite, and the redbox, and switch modding isn't just for piracy, it's also for modding games, have you seen the insane botw mods people hava made, you can get entire dlc's worth of more content in that game through modding.
5:34 again? you don't need "technical knowhow" to dump switch games, you either need a launch model to soft mod, a modchip to hard mod, or some money to buy that new dumper device.

@@victorxmaster634 Yeah that's what I thought. The Switch isn't a very demanding system but you can tweak the Deck in game for better life. But I'm sure your well aware of that already lol. I'm always looking for a good smaller power bank for my Deck!

@@OLOF313 yeah probably for battery life on the internal battery the steam deck is the only acceptable handheld pc(good performance at lower wattages) the rog ally x has good battery life but that’s just brute forcing it at this point, imagine if the steam deck oled had an 80 wh battery

No I have to agree because Nintendo needs 3rd party games in order to get more audience, if system is weak companies won't be able to port their games on it and run smoothly. I know graphics isn't always everything but you need a strong system in order play some new games and the steam deck barely handles some new triple A games that comes out.

"going for the casual audience that dont see framerate"
actually i think its the opposite, the casual audience only see the framerate because they know nothing about gaming, while the hardcore dont care about it as long as its stable and acceptable, and only care about what really matter: gameplay...
seriously, i know you're not one of those, but this discourse you said feels like you are... the type of people anoying that only care about graphics and specs and ignore all the rest.

I have to take all Nintendo rumors with many grains of salt because everyone has made fools of themselves in the past. Super switch anyone? That said, if the power rumors turn out to be true, then I will most likely pass on it. I'm getting pretty tired of their underpowered ways.

The Switch is available widely around the world.
The Deck isn't. You can't buy it officially in Australia, India, Brazil or a hundred other countries.
Sadly, and pathetically, the Deck remains a (popular) niche product.
This has been part success, part huge failure by Valve.
