I highly recommend Elden Ring. I'm 45 hours into elden ring at level 80 and love it. Currently its broken due to an update, but FromSoftware is updating it shortly.
I brought a Rog Ally, returned it after 2 weeks and brought a Steam Deck Oled instead... I didn't regret it one bit. The Steam Deck is just a way better user experience with actually working sleep function.
I sold my Switch to get a Steam Deck and it was the best decision I ever made. I have over 400 games on it now (including Switch games lol). It's freaking insane what this thing can do! I even have Windows 98 emulated on it so I can play games from when I was like 8 years old (I'm 36 now).
I got the 64 GB Steam Deck and updated the SSD to 1 TB. I had the system for almost a year with zero problems. It is one of the best values in gaming. I also got a dock. Zero regrets. Your video had me cracking up! Well done. I hope you get your Deck soon.
Hell yea brother happy to hear great minds think alike!! Also glad you liked the video!! I love my steam deck it’s seriously awesome up there with building my pc
@@JerryMeehanJr Awesome! For me, the great portable gaming trilogy is the Steam Deck, the Switch OLED and the Analogue Pocket. Sadly, like the Steam Deck the Analogue Pocket is only available online and sells out often but also like the Steam Deck the Pocket is so with it if you can get one. Thanks again for the laughs from this video. So glad you where finally able to get the Deck.
@JerryMeehanJr I just learned about it the other day. I 100% agree windows makes every handheld terrible. Now it runs just like a steam deck but with the extra oomph of the Allys power. Feels like a brand new device and has that game console experience.
@TiredTimelord yo that’s awesome glad you found something to make it more like a console os! I might’ve kept mine if I knew that!! I also had the base model and not the extreme so who knows how it would’ve handle it in the long run
I have an ROG Ally Z1X got it for $540. Had a Steam Deck LCD, loved it, but felt limited and I've been a Windows admin for over a decade so the Windows aspect was fine since I know how to optimize it. Had a ROG Ally Z1 before the Extreme and it was fine, just had to upscale everything. Looking back on it I could've also expanded the SSD installed Bazzite (SteamOS Mimic/Fedora) and had the best of both worlds. If what I said is confusing just get the Steam Deck and enjoy the convivence, it's a lovely device.
@@JerryMeehanJr Pretty much everything you described on the emulation front! Im a sucker for N64/PS2/Gamecube and then lighter games on Steam - I feel like I'd be missing out something not getting the new Asus machine but who really wants to deal with Windows if you already have a PC?
@bradentaylor4446 exactly! The ally is fun if you want to tinker with set up and use it like a laptop but even then the screens too small for it to make sense. If you have a PC then a gaming pc handheld is kind of a null purchase. I love my steam deck I got it hooked up to the tv never have a single issue with it!
I got a used 64gb lcd steamdeck back in February and upgraded it to a 1gb sdd (which was easy btw). Best purchase ever, my ps5 and xbsx has been collecting dust. Being new to PC gaming, i find the deals on steam and the deck, outweigh the pros of consoles with better performance.
my big brother used to have steamdeck too, then he sell it off to but xbox series s again. Inspired by the steamdeck performance i buy the 64 lcd type (i used to play everthing on limited's hardware nintendo switch device) First game i tried is ghost of tsushima and it blew my mind. Captivating and beautifull more than that zelda botw i used to play. the framerate finaly past 30 fps lmao.. Im just wondering now whatmy brother thinking while he struggle playing on console no portability, limited game list, etc
@paulkendrick4153 I believe it's GPD WIN. Probably the pioneers of the Portable Gaming PC trend. Because before Valve and Asus even thought about it, they had already done it. And before hearing anybody talk trash about the devices released by the brand, I would like to hear reasons why 1st.
Dumping a load of roms on the deck and playing more mid-spec games is literally the way I play like 90% of my games since I bought it. The Steam Deck is genuinely a dream device for me, one of the best purchases I’ve made in years
I'm in Australia so... gray market steam-deck. I got the 64Gb version. booted it once to test it then upgraded to 2Tb SSD & Gilikit joy-cons. I also got a new back plate because the buttons come at 3 different heights. (I have curved fingers and this made knowing what key I was pressing easy) The fact you can do repairs yourself & upgrades is one big reason to get a SteamDeck. SteamDeck is "THE" standard for game dev's.
I mostly want a PC handheld to play PC games other than triple A titles. I want to play triple A titles on my desktop PC on a 65" screen. I like playing TBS games like X-com, Battle Brothers, Warhammer Gladius, Civ 6, etc on the go where the track pads are very useful. These games are easier to pick up and play where I left off. These handhelds are also good to play retro titles that were designed with CRT TV (480i) in mind. Older titles had simpler graphics while more recent titles had to make item glow in order to see them in the busy environment. Starfield was loaded with trash items everywhere. I wonder how many man-hours were wasted to load in some many useless items.
Lol, this was a funny and quite entertaining video I pre-ordered my Steam Deck when it was announced and boy, back than the wait to finally get one in hand was horrible. So bad that I ended up buying a desktop pc to get the hang of pc gaming, while waiting for the Deck. Originally I used to play on consoles, namely the Scamstation 2, 3 and 4, when I decided enough is enough. I also had the Microscam console back in the day, the Scambox 360
Steam deck is just a bit lower power and doesn't have the anticheat that the ally has otherwise, its just as good. And since so much is community modded, its actually easier. Just use cryotools to mod your bios, deckyloader for plugins, protontweeks for compatibility tweaking, emudeck for emulation and WinSCP for transfering files between PC and Deck. I got the 1TB OLED... its amazing... put a 1TB SD card in it and was golden.
Although this may be late, you could have installed BazziteOS on your ROG Ally. It's basically a Linux distro that aims to give you a SteamOS-like experience. The installation is fairly easy if you look up a tutorial of it and the difference in performance when compared to a Steam Deck is roughly around 2-5%.
I got both I worked my ass off for a steam deck and I thought “huh lemme get an ally it looks cool!” Worst idea for the next 6 days steam would not even open nor would the rockstar launcher (because I play rdr2) after 4 days I finally figured it out the fucking resolution was making steam crash how fun. Don’t get an ally if you just want it to work get the deck a trillion times better
I believe that before this video got uploaded, there were already other videos explaining why to avoid the Asus ROG Ally like the plague. Moral of the story: Patience is a virtue.
Just got a Steam Deck Oled ordered yesterday. I did a bit of research before getting it because, even though I knew it was good, I wanted to see what was on the market. I seen the Asus Hand held and I though about it, but I got the steam deck and I am excited to get it. I am 15 about to be 16 by the way so the steam deck is my big 16 gift and it's my first expensive gift. I know, normally kids get a vehicle when they are 16, but the thing is I already do, I just won't be able to drive it until i get a job which is after I get done with my competition band stuff that last half a school year. Don't worry, I ain't getting a mustang or anything like that, I ain't that spoiled lol
That’s a great 16th birthday gift! Happy birthday!! I hope you enjoy it. When I was 16 we had Xbox 360 coming out lol I would’ve killed for something like the steam deck back then
@@JerryMeehanJr thanks, I definitely am going to enjoy it. It's definitely gonna see some use, but it will be less then my brother with our switch. He has basically taken it over and it goes everywhere with him.
@@DoodleDonkey45 Yeah. It ain't no 10,000 dollar vehicle, but it's not a very cheap one either. The reason for that though is that my parents just got a bit of money from a property that was one of my deceased relatives so he is just giving me the vehicle, but like I said, I need to have a source of income to drive it so I can for 1# pay insurance 2# that I can pay for gas, and so on.
You're funny. Great video. I hope Bob has a version of cartoon Bob on his wall or his phone background! Cartoon Bob deserves it. Hoping your channel blows up
Have a Rog Ally : made one initial backup with Aomei (/Hiren) in the beginning and just started gaming. Installed Playrite and upgraded the nvme to 2Gb a few months back and generally it's a phenomenal device. Never crashed on me and it just keeps on doing what it does.
i have a steam deck for a couple years and it still works so damn well. It let's me adjust the battery usage, play emulators, going desktop mode , create some arts, blender studio, and all, it's really great. I would totally recommend it. i had my hands on the Lenovo Legion Go and it sucks so bad that the trackpad doesn't click and you had to touch the screen to click something.
I love my steam deck and I was so happy I bought it. Well worth the money bought the 1tb oled and highly recommend it. Gameplay is amazing and smooth and just love having a pc on the go.
Coming from someone who had a deck I can definetly say the xl extreme is so much more powerful.. powerhouse games like rdr2 and cyberpunk kinda struggling on the deck in all honesty.. with the Z1 extreme you can get close 60 fps at high settings with some ultra mixed in easily 😊
I agree, what's the point of buying a windows handheld while myself already got a windows PC at home. I also don't want to update the driver and software every week just to run my favorite games properly and not lagged out
As a person who loves the ROG ALLY, I fully get the merit to this video. It can be a frustrating system to work with. My micro-SD card slot fried ages ago due to a hardware failure that was well known and the system has a lot of janky parts to it. For most people and your specific use case, I fully get why it might have been the right call to just get the SD. I've had the SD before. It's much better suited for those use cases and genuinely made for those who want a more traditional portable. For me I love the Ally for the size, power, and overall feel as I have smaller hands myself. I do all my gaming portably, so it's the perfect system for me, however it's definitely not the best for everyone. Bazzite OS helps, however it is a hassle for some to set up. Overall I understand your point of view, and thought you had an entertaining video even though I personally don't agree it's a terrible device, just not the most user friendly one
Thank you for having the first human reaction to my video as an ally user and not berating me for “being poor” lmao I made this video months ago didn’t know much about the ally but I do think the ally x is a good purchase
@@JerryMeehanJr People who are saying it's about "being poor" are ridiculous. The economy is rough especially rn. Shoot, I bought mine after selling all of my other systems just to afford it myself. Everyone has their right to an opinion no matter where they stand on budget. There's always pros and cons to everything. The ALLY has always been a niche product in an already niche space of handheld gaming computers. To me, the Steam Deck is by far the best price to performance product on the market. It's not the best fit for me, but for the majority of people who just want to launch and play their games immediately, the Steam Deck is the golden standard most are trying to emulate at this point. The ALLY will always sit in a specific use case of people who need that extra power, want something smaller, and / or want to play specific games. They both fill their roles in the market and having a choice is always better then having none
ROG Ally user here. Had the same constant thinking back and forth between that one and the Steam Deck. Got impatient, found a good deal for a brand new Ally (Z1 Extreme at least) and took the plunge. Agreed that it takes AGES to set it up for the first time. And yes, between setting up launchers and updates, you deal with Windows 11's unoptimized layout on a handheld. But... after that was all done? I'm quite happy with it. I've been playing SO many Game Pass games that I never got to touch before, and I'm even continuing playing some of the games I've bought for my Xbox console, with the saves syncing. In fact, I ended up buying the ROG Ally X that got announced just 2 months later, simply because I'm using this device so much that the extra battery life is a godsend (plus the extra storage and RAM, plus other improvements sound fantastic).
I spend 3 months researching between rog ally and steam deck and I chose the steam deck even thought the rog ally was on sale for $175 cheaper than my steam deck and I still couldn't justify the rog ally
@@JerryMeehanJr it's my favorite piece of technology I've ever bought, even though my desktop makes the steam deck look like a n64 in terms of power and performance I love the steam deck
@@JerryMeehanJr having 2 kids and no time the steam deck was an amazing game changer, couldn't even take in account anti cheat games as I wouldn't want to play a competitive shooter on a 7 inch screen with a controller against mouse and key board with a 32:9 aspect ratio 😂😂 its beyond a disadvantage, insurgency sandstorm works so well on steam deck actually but the ttk and the controller vs mouse and key makes it very difficult to enjoy
The Steam Deck can still give you a PC headache from time to time. When I first used a dock it black screened desktop mode which was a pain but overall its a good happy medium between PC and console.
THIS was me with THE CLAW!!! I ended up with the OLEDCSteam Deck because I just didn’t want to deal with Windows… the very OS I stopped using after Windows 7.
Great video dude! I was choosing between the SD OLED and ROG Ally X and ultimately decided to go with the SD OLED. I wanted an experience similar to my Switch OLED where I can just pick up, play, set it down and play it again where I left off...except with my Steam titles. To me, watching videos of the Ally's bootup/opening of games and seeing Windows 11 randomly popup in between really ruined the immersion of having a handheld console. I think I made the right choice because I already have a pretty decked out gaming PC and laptop and didn't want some janky Windows animations in my handheld lol. That...and I'm addicted to OLED.
thank you for watching! and yes the ability to pause and put the SD to sleep in the middle of a game really makes it awesome having to set up windows 11 on the ally was a lot of tinkering and when i finally got my games going it was annoying to not be able to just pause it
if microsoft decides to come out with their own handheld, they should make a variant of windows that's handheld optimized on the UI front. navigating on rog ally is a horrible experience
Patient my friend… thats how i bought my steam deck refurbish model. Last year in august, i just kept going to the website and refreshing the page everyday day in intervals of 2 hours. A week later in a Friday afternoon it was available the 64gb model ( the cheaper one that i wanted).best thing i bought.
I love my ROG ally Z1 extreme. windows does suck but im not using the system for windows, im using it to game my PC library on it with out any hassle or extra modifications. and it has worked wonders for me to take my favorite games anywhere. sure i have it plugged in a lot. and i use my hotspot for things like diablo 4 or division 2. that is fine for me. i knew what i was getting when i bought the ALLY. i treat it like a gaming pc. and let the updates do the rest. and glad i have no issues running my AAA games on it i love.
I've been saving up for a Deck since like December, and I actually had the money for the cheapest refurbished model the last time more of those were in stock. Thing is a couple hundred I had wasn't deposited into my account yet, and by the time I was able to do that... they were out of stock again. Not having my own car and having to rely on others for transportation sucks for so many reasons. It's fine though, I got a new one a couple months later. My friends were really nice and just gave me a bunch of money for my birthday, so I have one now! It's really great so far!
Bought the ROG Ally Extreme several months ago and I like it a lot. I know the Steam Deck has way better ease of use. But I like to play some demanding games and the ROG Ally Extreme delivers. My major complaints are the battery life is kinda dog shit and Windows 11 on a handheld is not a great mix but it can really maximize compatibility so it's a give and take. Other than that it is a beast of a machine.
This was funny. I have the OLED. I went through a lot of pensive debating over which handheld to get but at the end of the day since I too have a beast pc I thought meh... steamdeck it is. It's been a year and I LOVE IT!
That’s awesome to hear! I think it’s a lot to pick a handheld if you have a pc that will play everything. I love my steam deck too it’s great!! Thanks for watching 🙏
Been using Steam Deck since the first released of the LCD version and when I heard they’re gonna released another version which is OLED I upgraded it immediately, never had a thought to try ROG Ally or Legion Go coz I know Windows is sucks
I sold my steam deck oled and bought the Lenovo legion go. I love the features of the legion go, but man I do miss the hassle free experience of the steam deck oled. Like, everything just worked. Even rts games like crusader kings had flawless community made controls that can't be replicated even with the legion go's fps mode where you literally have a mouse. Also don't get me started on battery life
This is basically why I ended up picking up the steam deck instead of the legion. Legion is an objectively better device in terms of performance, but when you look at the whole gaming package, the steam deck is a really compelling offer.
@@Agumon5 me too.....i spent a long time deciding which one and i chose the steam deck oled over the legion go, i wanted a true handheld console experience rather than a gaming tablet with built in controllers...i hope i made the right choice
why do they ship so slow i swear nothing iv ordered in years has taken more than 3 days now im sitting on day 4 and my decks finally started shipping to me
Sometimes I take so long to decide what I'm going to buy I end up not buying anything at all. I think I'm your polar opposite, lol. But it took me a while to get to this point, I'm almost on my 40s, so I think wisdom is finally kicking in. About damn time!
oh dont get me wrong ill spend forever researching something and end up not buying it either!! im in my mid 30s so bills are way more expensive now i cant just buy anything i want anymore haha
I respect your opinion as I got both devices (OLED Deck and Z1E Ally) and while I love the Deck OLED for what it is, the only drawback I had with the Deck was that it failed the Fortnite test because of Epic’s poor excuses (Epic’s CEO says he needed a few Linux programmers or needs tens of millions of Steam Deck users but ironically, employees at Epic were laid off) so I had no other choice but to get the Ally. I’m aware of the MSI Claw but that’s terrible, and also the Legion Go but eh, too big. Zotac Zone is coming soon, but not sure…
I just snagged one of the new 64gb they still have floating around, I’m confident in my abilities to get the SSD upgrades I’ll need running on it eventually so the storage isn’t a big deal to me, so excited to finally get it
Was part of the Q2 gang. It did me well for a year but I was disappointed with the screen and performance of current AAA games. I was playing TLOU PT1 and FF7R on Deck and whilst it performed decent it still didn't look sharp or clean and running at low res. I got my Roggy played 10 mins of TLOU PT1 and a bit of FF7R and was blown away by the look and performance and knew it was the right choice. I always dock it, I'm PC player main so using windows on it feels no different. If you want a console like UI have Steam open at start up and set to big picture mode.
Yea, i've hated every interaction with windows i've ever had. I think steamdeck is the only way i'll be able to play steam/pc games. This sale woulda been a great chance to pick one up.... if it didn't immediately go out of stock.
Got my Steam Deck in july of 2022. To this day, it's still my main gaming machine. Did a 1tb nvme upgrade, a year ago to add to the 500gb Micro SD card that I bought on day one... Micro SD that still works, by the way. 😉 Since PvP online gaming and Xbox gamepass are not my cup of tea (I have a 450+ Steam games library), It runs everything I want to play. I also have a PC that I turned into a Steam Machine with ChimeraOS , but it's mostly collecting dust. The Steam Deck rocks and SteamOS is, by far, the best experience you can get on a handheld. I'm wondering how long will the ROG Ally Z1 continue to get updates, when the X will be available? Asus doesn't have a great track record in this aspect. For my part, I'm eagerly looking forward to the Steam Deck 2.
I really love my Steamdeck I got a 256gb model about a year and a half ago for about 600 cad with taxes included I really love it I ended up putting a 256gb sd card in it a few months back and it’s almost full again so I’m probably gonna get a 512 or 1tb next but yeah so far so good I think if it had been out at the time I probably would’ve gone for refurbished or an oled steam deck my only issue is that I have the weird lightning issue around the corners
Have had my Ally Z1 Extreme for 3 months and I'm loving it. Only really had two problems with it. I got it open-box and the LT button wasn't working. The retailer I got it from replaced the motherboard and updated the BIOS within warranty, so I paid nothing for the fix and didn't have to deal with Asus' crappy support. Then there was Windows 11, which I hate, so I replaced it with the latest version of tiny10. Battery life sucks if I'm on the 25W profile and I'm playing something heavy like RDR2 but if I'm playing older games on the 10W profile, it's actually quite decent. The Deck costs about the same in my country and given the slower CPU/GPU and heavier weight, I wouldn't want it.
The roms were playing fine on the ally definitely but I didn’t get to play anything heavier to test it unfortunately I did notice it was a little laggy and the battery sucked
@@JerryMeehanJr It's just Windows 11 being crap, basically. Installing a decrapified version of Windows 10 or Linux massively improves things. But yea, you got the non-extreme version which is quite pointless. It's noticeably slower without having noticeably better battery life and it only costs like 10% less than the Extreme, in my country at least.
As a All time PC gamer, I got Steam Deck and it is exactly like my childhood dream and is almost unbelievable how easy and amazing it is... almost too good to be true kinda amazing... Like I can play Skyrim 60 fps (godray medium) 40 to 45 fps (godray high).... damn i remember not being able to run skyrim at all in my desktop PC back in the days - just unbelievable , i wanna cry and run away into the woods and scream Fk yeah....... and come back and play more skyrim...
I’m getting a ROG Ally X because I don’t currently have a gaming PC and Valve don’t officially sell Steam Decks here, and I could install Bazzite on the Ally anyway (dual boot or swap the whole drive)
I would also buy X later (already have Z1 Extreme) just because of cheaper memory (2280 costs less than 2230 and is faster) and futureproofed USB 4 support.
have a OG SteamDeck almost a 2 year already. I put the windows on it as a dualboot but literally have not booted it in this year a single time ... I came to a conclusion that 95% of those game without a linux support is the most toxic garbage and i don't need them in my life..
got an rog ally z1 extreme 2 months ago and I love it....but just this morning i ordered an lcd steam deck...the z1extrame is actually fire been playing cyberpunk 2077 on it
WELP I literally just placed an order for a Steam Deck OLED last night because I'm going on vacations this weekend, guess that ain't happening with those shipping times ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I almost got the Legion Go, until I realized that I want something other than a pc because I have a gaming laptop, PS5 and Switch. So, the hassle with windows is something I don't want to game on for fun. The legion go was cheaper, but I ended up paying more for the Steam Deck Oled and now I can't get enough of it and I made the correct choice. I was lucky that I was able to get it the next day and now I can play my PSP games I saved and my Steam, Epic Games games.
Are you on Beta firmware? For me, I used to have a bunch of issues even had a moment where my screen wouldn’t turn on. I went back to stable and was fine overall.
Thank you very much for your support and video my brother. I'm want to buy Rog Alley the one you bought, because I just want to put older games like ps1,ps2,og xbox, gamecube, dreamcast. But you said it's not even worth it to get that version
@@JerryMeehanJr I was thinking it might be an unnecessarily expensive investment when you already have a PC, but if it's worthwhile for you to play on your TV without moving things around or streaming to it etc then fair enough :)
my steam deck oled has been the best financial decision ive ever made, i swear to you and ofc it has its drawbacks but theres been nothing i haven't been able to fix. it has completely outdone my ps5 and switch i have no reason to keep those around anymore
@@JerryMeehanJr and you can load windows on a micro sd card and enter the boot menu to boot from the said micro sd card and have all the pleasures of ROG ally... and the destiny 2...
really? i would have thought the ps5 is still a much better gaming console vs a plugged in steam deck. hearing this puts a smile on my face. i am recieving my SD oled 1tb soon
I tried the ally in Japan, I opened Forza 4, it took so long to open I was able to look around the entire store and come back, and it was STILL loading
to be real w you guys, i'm a console gamer first and foremost. series x, ps5, switch... i have the holy trinity of modern gaming. but as we know, many games are forgotten and never given life again. take shadow of mordor for example. great game with really fluid combat but it runs @ 30 on current gen hardware. ironically, my potato laptop w 8 gigs of ram from 2017 can probably run this particular title.. but what about the other awesome games that are held back by (at this point) obsolete framerates and resolution? the steam deck being an upgrade from my potato laptop is more than enough to justify me being utterly in love with it. but being able to dock shadow of mordor to my tv @ 60 frames is a godsend and very much looking forward to just playing. more. games. nice vid jerry.
I have a steam deck. LCD 512 og model and 256 OLED with been vnme to 2gb. I personally will never buy a handheld gaming PC without touchpads. Will never happen. Those are so damn useful for everything and I'm pretty sure Valve has perfected them. I can't imagine and improvement.
Oh wow how much do you like the oled more than the og? I thought about saying for the oled but in this economy with a regular target trip costing half my paycheck for toilet paper, I couldn’t do it lol
My deck comes this week (1tb oled) and ive done research, but the rog Ally just doesn’t feel like a handheld, windows is just not Made for handhelds, SteamOS 🔛🔝
This story is hilarious :') Glad you got your money back though! ASUS launched the Ally X now also with improvements to battery life and an SD Card slot that hopefully WONT melt your SD Card! They still have garage customer support though
@@JerryMeehanJr LOL true... Steam Deck is a wonderful login and game sort of device and I love it even more cause it runs Linux, which is my daily driver OS for many years now :D
I was really excited about the Ally until I got it. I had planned on using it as my computer and gaming handheld all in one. It does both fine but managing windows on a tiny screen like that is cumbersome and that's my nice way of putting it. I had it for maybe 6 months and played it maybe 10 hours before I sold it haha.
yea the screen is definitely way too small to be used as a computer! i have glasses and had to put the damn thing close to my face when configuring everything lol
Is it a good moment to buy a handheld pc as of RIGHT NOW? I mean, is there a better version/model upcoming soon? I dont want to feel like a tooI for paying a bunch of money for old hardware and I could just have added another 100 and get a brand new one?
Every week there is a new gaming handheld coming out. I think it just depends on what it is you want out of it. I wouldn’t ever spend money on something that can only play up to ps1 games again now that I own a steam deck
@@JerryMeehanJr The Linux/Android based emulation-focused handhelds are still worth a look if you want something much smaller and more portable, plus they cost a lot less. But yeah size aside hard to beat the Steam Deck and Windows ones.
@lyteedge oh yes! I have a retroid pocket 2 and an anbernic idk which one they’re great and portable for sure. I was thinking of getting a retroid pocket 4 eventually I love the look and it’s the perfect size to bring around
I just have bad luck(If you know what i mean) with electricity in my country. 50% of the time i have no electricity so i can't use my PC. Will Steam Deck save me? Or i would need internet anyway for Steam Deck? Yes, i don't have internet when there is electricity cut off.
@PerfosOG only games you want to play casting from your pc would need an internet WiFi connection but once you download all the games you want you’re fine without it
@@PerfosOGyou shouldn’t have a problem playing any games locally on Steam Deck without an internet connection. Cloud saves shouldn’t be an issue for you if you’re primarily gaming on your deck: when an internet connection is available, your Steam client will automatically sync your saves to Steam cloud. Cloud saves will also automatically download to your device when a connection is available.
@@JerryMeehanJrOk so when you’re away from home and you want to play those games then you’re screwed. Smart choice. Can play it on a device you think isn’t great, or can’t play it at all. Genius thinking
Why the fuck would I ever want to play any of those games outside of a gaming pc experience specially when I’m actually out with friends or something? Even on a trip I wouldn’t sit and play call of duty on my steam deck or any device because I’m actually enjoying life. Anyone who is that desperate to play one of these online games on the go has a serious problem and needs to touch grass for real.
IMO the perfect handheld is just the Steamdeck with hall sticks and all the ratchet and clank games and epic games support wouldn’t be to bad either (I really love ratchet and clank games and I’d really love to be able to play them all on a handheld)

I sold my Switch to get a Steam Deck and it was the best decision I ever made. I have over 400 games on it now (including Switch games lol). It's freaking insane what this thing can do! I even have Windows 98 emulated on it so I can play games from when I was like 8 years old (I'm 36 now).
…windows 98 you say?… I’m 35… can you run Lego island???
@JerryMeehanJr I don't know that game, but probably yes.
Sort of relatable I sold my PS vita to buy a steam deck and I’m so glad I did way more games and way more comfortable in my hands
@@CaptainRex332 Yup, and you can still play Vita/PSP games on it too, so you're not losing anything
@@amit_patel654 that is true honestly I’m just hoping Sony is willing to port more of their games to steam specifically ps3 /ps2 games
I like how you're character looks always angry
glad somebody noticed hahah
I finally got my own Steam Deck and it's so freaky awesome!!!!!
yay!!!
I too bought the ROG ally first. It fried my micro SD in less than a day. I ended up returning it and am super happy with my steam deck.
I installed Bazzite OS on my ROG Ally. The Software is the secret sauce and the Ally is amazing with valves software on it. Best of both worlds
Damn I didn’t know that was a thing!!
I also had the base model and not the extreme so who knows how it would’ve handle it in the long run
i like windows way more
@@JerryMeehanJrit's not as optimizes as steamos so no steam deck is better choice
If what I said is confusing just get the Steam Deck and enjoy the convivence, it's a lovely device.
i got myself an LCD steam deck 8 months ago, but now got myself an OLED one.
This is unironically the best video I’ve seen on the subject; I’m stuck between these handhelds.
Thank you! What is it that you’re actually looking to do with a handheld?
@@JerryMeehanJr ya your videos might have swayed me haha thank you for the help and guidance!
Helll yes brother love to hear it!
my big brother used to have steamdeck too, then he sell it off to but xbox series s again.
If you’re impatient like this don’t buy a gpd device.
So true. So fucking true
Bro just bought one as soon as you said it 💀
What gpd mean plz
@@paulkendrick4153 gaming portable device, I'm pretty sure
@paulkendrick4153 I believe it's GPD WIN. Probably the pioneers of the Portable Gaming PC trend.
Because before Valve and Asus even thought about it, they had already done it.
And before hearing anybody talk trash about the devices released by the brand, I would like to hear reasons why 1st.
Dumping a load of roms on the deck and playing more mid-spec games is literally the way I play like 90% of my games since I bought it. The Steam Deck is genuinely a dream device for me, one of the best purchases I’ve made in years

just sold my ally for the Steamdeck OLED i cant wait to get it in the mail
Best decision trust me!

Good choice
Steam Deck OLED here, playing:
Bolt Gun
Shredder's Revenge
Burnout Revenge (PS2 emulator)
Nice! I heard shredders revenge is awesome
I bought a legion go and sold my steam deck half a year ago. Best purchase I made in recent years, this machine is amazing.
Helll yea brother!! That’s why I got the 64gb refurb for $279, a 1tb ssd is like $80 here
Also my wife’s parents live in Australia! 🍻
Yea I really wanted to get it to run Lego island and those old 90s pc games but turned out to be a lot more trouble than it was worth!
I remember how excited I was when the Steam Deck finally showed up at my house. Currently playing the awesome Hades 2.
It honestly was like Christmas as a kid again !
To be fair loading ROMs on the Deck can be just as tedious, but it's worth it.
steamdeck owner here, makes me proud of my choice hehe Thanks for the advise, also this animation is cinema! new sub here
Thanks for the sub!! And yes you made the right choice, I love my steam deck 🤝
Lol, this was a funny and quite entertaining video
I pre-ordered my Steam Deck when it was announced and boy, back than the wait to finally get one in hand was horrible.
Thank you for watching!! Yea the week and change wait was brutal I can’t imagine waiting longer for it must’ve been rough
I have both, the Ally for the more power hungry games, and the deck for everything else.
Moral of the story:
Patience is a virtue.
@FizzyTonic 😂 well now you have your own steam deck so he can keep the switch!! Lol
My biggest takeaway from this is apparently people are giving vehicles at 16
@@DoodleDonkey45 Yeah.

I just bought the other day a Legion Go from amazon. Just impatiently waiting till it arrives today.
Let me know how that it is!!
Have a Rog Ally : made one initial backup with Aomei (/Hiren) in the beginning and just started gaming. Installed Playrite and upgraded the nvme to 2Gb a few months back and generally it's a phenomenal device. Never crashed on me and it just keeps on doing what it does.
Thanks for reinforcing my choice :D Steam decks been a blast so far to tinker with and try all sorts of games from steam and the web
Helll yes!!
i have a steam deck for a couple years and it still works so damn well.
Helll yea brother happy to hear it
Isnt the ROG Ally with the Z1 Extreme chip way beefier though, and the upcoming Ally X?
Z1 extreme is better has the better chip I think it’s the same size as the crap one I had
Thank you for having the first human reaction to my video as an ally user and not berating me for “being poor” lmao
I made this video months ago didn’t know much about the ally but I do think the ally x is a good purchase
Bro din't know that ASUS ROG ALLY is Handheld PC GAMING 🗿
Nice hope you love it!
@@JerryMeehanJr it's my favorite piece of technology I've ever bought, even though my desktop makes the steam deck look like a n64 in terms of power and performance I love the steam deck
@optimalbonkerz hell yea brother it’s cause you can play your games on the go nothing better!!
This is a lesson in patience
YOU'RE FRIEND OF BOB? THAT'S HUGE W
Since we were 12 😎
The Steam Deck can still give you a PC headache from time to time.
I got one because im cheap and think that $400 is already a lit of money. I also want to support Linux development.
That...and I'm addicted to OLED.
thank you for watching! and yes the ability to pause and put the SD to sleep in the middle of a game really makes it awesome having to set up windows 11 on the ally was a lot of tinkering and when i finally got my games going it was annoying to not be able to just pause it
steam deck feels like a complete device unlike its competition: weird bootleg janky handheld computers
if microsoft decides to come out with their own handheld, they should make a variant of windows that's handheld optimized on the UI front. navigating on rog ally is a horrible experience
Now you can officially put SteamOS on a Asus rog now
Patient my friend… thats how i bought my steam deck refurbish model. Last year in august, i just kept going to the website and refreshing the page everyday day in intervals of 2 hours. A week later in a Friday afternoon it was available the 64gb model ( the cheaper one that i wanted).best thing i bought.
Nice!!
That’s awesome hope you’re enjoying it!!
@@JerryMeehanJr I really am! This is one of the best things I've ever owned, and I don't see myself going back to the Switch beyond exclusives.
@brendanblair64 definitely feel the same I don’t plan on buying another gaming console!
Just bought mine today just waiting for it to get shipped out
That’s awesome you’re gonna love it!
@JerryMeehanJr yea can't wait to play sonic adventure 1 and 2 on the go
@Devkitgaming13 it’s awesome that was the first thing I played haha

This was funny man - good stuff!
Thank you!

I’m glad someone caught that lmao
Sometimes I take so long to decide what I'm going to buy I end up not buying anything at all. I think I'm your polar opposite, lol. But it took me a while to get to this point, I'm almost on my 40s, so I think wisdom is finally kicking in. About damn time!
oh dont get me wrong ill spend forever researching something and end up not buying it either!! im in my mid 30s so bills are way more expensive now i cant just buy anything i want anymore haha
What are you even talking about, you don't need install anything on the Asus Rog Ally. You press the Armoury Crate and you can start gaming.
Zotac Zone is coming soon, but not sure…
saving up for a refurbished 512gb steam deck, i hope its worth it cos i've been obsessing over it for months now
I just bought one new, hopefully no one steals it 🥴
It’s worth it
I just snagged one of the new 64gb they still have floating around, I’m confident in my abilities to get the SSD upgrades I’ll need running on it eventually so the storage isn’t a big deal to me, so excited to finally get it
Was part of the Q2 gang.
Steam deck owner here it's awesome so much customization
Yea, i've hated every interaction with windows i've ever had. I think steamdeck is the only way i'll be able to play steam/pc games. This sale woulda been a great chance to pick one up.... if it didn't immediately go out of stock.
Got my Steam Deck in july of 2022. To this day, it's still my main gaming machine.
Did a 1tb nvme upgrade, a year ago to add to the 500gb Micro SD card that I bought on day one... Micro SD that still works, by the way. 😉
Since PvP online gaming and Xbox gamepass are not my cup of tea (I have a 450+ Steam games library), It runs everything I want to play.
I recently got myself a Steam Deck OLED, and it is beautiful!! It did take a week, but it is worth it!! I do not regret my choices AT ALL!!
Skyrim helll yea brother
you and me both
Just play skyrim for the first time last week. Damn! I cant stop playing 😂
@themegamega21 no way really?!
There's a lesson in all of this: when life hands you lemons you don't go and make orange juice with a lime instead...
have a OG SteamDeck almost a 2 year already. I put the windows on it as a dualboot but literally have not booted it in this year a single time ... I came to a conclusion that 95% of those game without a linux support is the most toxic garbage and i don't need them in my life..
got an rog ally z1 extreme 2 months ago and I love it....but just this morning i ordered an lcd steam deck...the z1extrame is actually fire been playing cyberpunk 2077 on it
That’s sick glad it’s running good! You can get steam os on the rog ally!
I ordered an OLED Deck, took 2 days to process and shipped out in 1 day to my door lol
Damn lucky lol
🤣 this got me rolling! I am waiting on SD now hopefully I can get it within 5 days 😂
I have a steam deck but it crashes a lot and sometimes doesn’t turn back on other than that its alright
What really?? You should get that looked at
Mine crashed like once or twice at best, yours probably has an issue
Are you on Beta firmware? For me, I used to have a bunch of issues even had a moment where my screen wouldn’t turn on. I went back to stable and was fine overall.
I have a basic Steamdeck and a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme.
I play my Gameboy SP more than both of them combined.
Thank you very much for your support and video my brother. I'm want to buy Rog Alley the one you bought, because I just want to put older games like ps1,ps2,og xbox, gamecube, dreamcast. But you said it's not even worth it to get that version
you can buy a retroid pocket 4 and itll play all those old systems! and its half the price!
@@JerryMeehanJr for real brother
Cool I might still get the steam deck. But if retro device you said is better for that then I'll get that device instead of the steam deck
I’m a bit confused as to why you would buy a gaming handheld to use primarily on your TV lol
I got it to play emulators and steam games on my tv!
@@JerryMeehanJr I was thinking it might be an unnecessarily expensive investment when you already have a PC, but if it's worthwhile for you to play on your TV without moving things around or streaming to it etc then fair enough :)
Oh yea makes my life way easier since my pc is in my room
my steam deck oled has been the best financial decision ive ever made, i swear to you and ofc it has its drawbacks but theres been nothing i haven't been able to fix. it has completely outdone my ps5 and switch i have no reason to keep those around anymore
Love to hear it!!
@vadim6656 ps5 is a waste of money you made the right choice friend
I tried the ally in Japan, I opened Forza 4, it took so long to open I was able to look around the entire store and come back, and it was STILL loading
yeup sounds about right lol
to be real w you guys, i'm a console gamer first and foremost. series x, ps5, switch... i have the holy trinity of modern gaming. but as we know, many games are forgotten and never given life again. take shadow of mordor for example. great game with really fluid combat but it runs @ 30 on current gen hardware. ironically, my potato laptop w 8 gigs of ram from 2017 can probably run this particular title.. but what about the other awesome games that are held back by (at this point) obsolete framerates and resolution? the steam deck being an upgrade from my potato laptop is more than enough to justify me being utterly in love with it. but being able to dock shadow of mordor to my tv @ 60 frames is a godsend and very much looking forward to just playing. more. games. nice vid jerry.
Love to hear brother the steam deck is a modern marvel we are lucky to exist during the same time as it
Found you from your Reddit post. The video is actually pretty good.
Thank you!!
@@JerryMeehanJrBro I have a asus rog ally and it is so fun bro. I can play all the games I want and I can easily play any game I want:)
Helll yea brother
My deck comes this week (1tb oled) and ive done research, but the rog Ally just doesn’t feel like a handheld, windows is just not Made for handhelds, SteamOS 🔛🔝
Exactly! Handhelds should be more console like experiences. If you want to use windows, buy a laptop!
This story is hilarious :') Glad you got your money back though!
ASUS launched the Ally X now also with improvements to battery life and an SD Card slot that hopefully WONT melt your SD Card!
They still have garage customer support though
thank you and im glad i got my money back too!! I saw the X but you can paint a turd gold its still a turd hahahaha
Set steam to run on startup and big picture mode.
If you're interested in a Windows handheld, wait for the ROG Ally X which releases towards the end of next month.
@@lyteedge Ah thanks, this was kind of what i was looking for!
You will need some internet to start it up and download everything but once you get games on you won’t need internet to use it
@@JerryMeehanJr it's just not very clear to me how many games will launch without internet connection. Cloud saves etc.
Cloud saves will also automatically download to your device when a connection is available.
why dont you just dual boot with windows on the steam deck for when you wanna play thos 1 or 2 games with anti cheat?
I have a gaming pc I would never play them on a handheld
@@JerryMeehanJrOk so when you’re away from home and you want to play those games then you’re screwed.
Smart choice.
Can play it on a device you think isn’t great, or can’t play it at all.
Genius thinking
Why the fuck would I ever want to play any of those games outside of a gaming pc experience specially when I’m actually out with friends or something? Even on a trip I wouldn’t sit and play call of duty on my steam deck or any device because I’m actually enjoying life. Anyone who is that desperate to play one of these online games on the go has a serious problem and needs to touch grass for real.
@@JerryMeehanJr this is why im getting a steam deck as well but I think in a few yrs 1 hand held will do 99% of my games
The perfect handheld would have the steam os but fixed anticheat, faster chip, and vrr
So basically ROG Ally with dual boot of Bazzite (SteamOS) and W11. You can even make them share game storage.
@@dr_ubono the ally doesn’t have the extra controls of a Steamdeck they are a necessity for me plus the ally is not comfortable for me to hold
IMO the perfect handheld is just the Steamdeck with hall sticks and all the ratchet and clank games and epic games support wouldn’t be to bad either
(I really love ratchet and clank games and I’d really love to be able to play them all on a handheld)
