I love that you allow yourself to indulge in December. I am working towards an 80/20 diet, or 80% on track real foods, 20% treat or less than "fuel nutrition" foods. You're on an 11/1! I think there can be a lot of guilt around food, but having a guilt free period between Turkey and Santa, then back on the wagon sounds perfect. Thank you for sharing!
+Morgan D good for you, the simple distinction between nourishment and calories is huge. I was bulimic for far too many years. I used up all my guilt early on 😉. In all seriousness, I actually don't subscribe to guilt, it does no good for anyone. If something feels bad I try and allow the feeling in as a teacher. For this part of my life, it's all about love and acceptance. Once you get it even a little, it's hard to undo its effects. But man oh man did I spend precious years obsessing over food.
I can just smell your kitchen. The holidays, are a brighter sweeter place, because of the surprises, stories, politico commentaries, words to the merry, cats that are furry, wildish beautiful hair, and skirt full of cherries. Thanks to your Grandmary, we come to your kitchen and wont tarry. Love to You and Glenn
My grandmother always made popcorn balls for her girls (my aunts) for this time of year. If us kids were lucky, our moms would share, lol. Before she left us I made her show me how to make them to surprise my aunts with a lifelong tradition. Her hands where so frail that I had to do all of the cooking and cleaning, but she loved the idea that I would pass the tradition along. Well I must be doing something wrong with the temp of the sugar according to this video. All she said to me was "a soft crack". So I'm going to try for the 3rd year to get the girls their popcorn balls, lol. Thanks for sharing! Randy P.
+02pwrstrk that's right, soft crack is 132-143, this is what makes popcorn balls chewy. Hard crack is 146/154, this is where you want your caramel corn.
Looks yummy! I think i'll make a batch! It would be a perfect gift! I'm planning to make your lip balm and a body butter recipe for gifts...this would make a perfect addition! Love the sweet connection/tradition you have with it.
Thanks. I didn't know you had too bad a troll problem. Like with your brother, I will only delete super trashy vulgarity or blatant trolls unless told otherwise.
Corrin, I don't have a family recipe so I think I'm going to steal yours! Hehehe.... That looks SOOOOOOOOO yummy!!!! I think IKEA needs to make a bigger bowl for ya! Hehehe... -Jen
That looks delicious. I use a similar thermometer for air conditioners to read register temps. I'm going to check on invert sugar and it's benefits. Thanks for the video.
+yellowdeer 7 it's still sugar, its molecular binds have been altered. If you're interested in getting off HFCS, there are some really convincing studies on how the body metabolises fructose vs sucrose (table sugar).
Gosh that looks great. Your blessed to have such treasures from your Grandmother. I'll give this a try this weekend along with making cookies for my dogs. My dogs love it when I cook, I'm a bit messy and they hang around for bits to hit the floor. Thank you for sharing these recipes.
Welcome Back! I'm so excited to see a post from you, and I hope you are having a joyful holiday season. Thanks for sharing such a special recipe! This looks like a fun treat.
I've missed your TH-cam videos.. Nice to see a Golden syrup tin, I think every Brit baker has one in the cupboard 🙂 I hope you will make that brioche waffle recipe video someday 🙏🏻
Mmmm, that looks really good! Whenever I hear of secret recipes I always imagine how much of a tragedy it would be if something happened that it got lost. I think it's really generous that you are sharing your Gram's recipe with all of us.
+Sheila Morse I've used maple syrup and it gets grainy. It's still delicious but the sugar doesn't seem to melt. Maybe try it and heat it slowly stirring until all the brown sugar is dissolved.
Nope. Not even going to try it. Simply because 6 or even 8 quarts wouldn't last 15 minutes. One of my favourite snacks possible! Awesome video as always! Cheers!
thanks again for the refesher. I had taken home economy when I was in jr high. yea, it was for the girls, I endured the scorn when asked what I was taking. lol...
"Is Karo Syrup the same as HFCS?" Both products are made from corn starch, but regular corn syrup is 100 percent glucose, while high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has had some of its glucose converted to fructose enzymatically. ... So read labels carefully or stick with Karo, which does not add HFCS to their products
Oh my Favorite Hood River Princess of all times... First off, I love you new hair style Second -- I still want to make a wall paint the color of your eyes. Third -- The popcorn was just way to distracting...I cannot believe that someone would let you make popcorn on video Fourth -- Did I tell you that you look wonderful, healthy, and vibrant. Good to see you back and looking so refreshed. Please let me know how your hips are doing? Also -- thank you for being love In short, welcome home.
@@Thefreshp that maybe but that isn't what you said in your video. You can get non-GMO organic corn syrup which is not 'refined' as invert sugar is as it is typically made from GMO sugar beets. (or agave 'nectar' which is also highly processed and refined)
Hey you are back.. :-) Salted Caramel Corn is one of those things that is always welcome for a snack. Thank you for sharing this with us. If we don't chat before the New Year, Twinkle and I hope you and Glen have a blessed Yule and a marry Christmas.

Nice to see you :) Not much of a popcorn eater but wonder if that sauce could be used on apples?

Been missing you and now you post this when I'm hungry. Pretty neat to have some of your grandma's recipes.

My thoughts too.
Enjoyed your video. Wondering if you can use honey or maple syrup instead of the invert sugar in the recipe?
+Sheila Morse I've used maple syrup and it gets grainy. It's still delicious but the sugar doesn't seem to melt. Maybe try it and heat it slowly stirring until all the brown sugar is dissolved.
👍🏻👍🏻 Two thumbs up! Missed your videos for a while there. Hope all is okay now!

can u us honey?
+terry saunders I don't know, try it. I've used maple syrup.
Karo BRAND corn syrup IS NOT High Fructose Corn syrup (HFC). I avoid HFC, but I do KNOW what it is and what it isn't.
Correct, but I avoid highly refined GMO corn sweeteners, Karo included.
