    Recently bought an as new condition MPC1000 in black. Installed a hard drive, added JJOSXL. After buying and selling an MPC Live and One, the MPC1000 feels more like an instrument. I now have an old school feel instrument in a modern set up. I absolutely love it!

      I have JJOS installed as well. Why does it automatically create copies of programs? For example, if I have a program called "Drum," it will make Drum02, Drum03, etc. Is it because I'm using the save-all feature?

    Honestly man I had an MPC2000XL for a little over 5 years and got rid of it (never should have done that 😔) and when I tried the new MPCs I was a little undewhelmed by the build quality and UI. I've grown to enjoy the new MPC for their flexibility, but a LOT was lost when the switch to InMusic happened. I wish we could have seen a true evolution of the MPC with Roger Linn on board. It would probably be more expensive, but way better. This 1000 with JJOS is sort of proof of that, to me. Cool video man. Thanks for sharing your process.

    • @nervouscooks
      @nervouscooks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah I think the overall feel of the new MPCs feels a bit cheaper. A lot of plastic and even though the One has click style buttons they aren’t made of the same plastic as the old ones. I think a lot of people would pay the extra for a high end build. I’m always looking for a cheap 2KXL in need of repair to add to my collection. I really enjoy working on them. 👍

      Had an MPC Live2 but went back to my old sampler+live combo, a K2500X by the way, from the same era of this MPC1000.

      I have a MPC 2000xl that my uncle left me when he passed . I have a MPC live 2 if you use the MPC 3000 effect combined with the compressor vintage effect on the master track it sounds identical to my MPC 200XL . When I use the compressor vintage I only turn the bottom knob on the right to increase the volume and all the drum sounds and instruments sounds like they were produced on my MPC 2000xl .

    Brother i really enjoyed your video and this Cooking !!! i have got the Akai mpc 1000 with JJosXL by 1 year now ... and i have to say such a " Modern " O.S with Retro feeling !!! Amazing ... like in bass part you can create a program in instrument not drum will be better to multisampling and tune and more parameters ...you can cut the chop using the the 2 Qlinks sliders too . There a lots of tricks in JJOSxl the guy who made is a legend .
    In the future i really apreciatte if you make a video making a comparison between AKAi one vs 1000 ... will be a lot of views for your channel !
    Again thanks for this video very inspiring .. following you now .

    MPC 1000 has been an integral part of my setup for 10 years. It's rock solid and can do most anything you want if you know what you're doing. Huzzah! I use it every day and love it aside from the RAM maxing out at 128mb. There's a good chance that i can answer most questions.
    I don't know that you can automatically audition samples, but if you hit "play", it will play the whole thing.
    No auto finding the zero crossing, so far as i know. I have to zoom all the way in and find it.
    You can type in names via the pads like on an old cell phone. This is faster for some people.
    You don't have to hit shift to redo whatever you undid, just hit undo again.
    When you're loading up additional samples on one of those programs made from 32 chops, banks C and D are blank.
    You can access normalize, sum to mono, discard area outside selection, etc, in trim mode via the F keys if you press shift.
    Pressing "main" while you're on the main screen will pop up the song mode.

      Listening to you doing the bass now...
      If you go into the program, switch it to "note on" and put a longer release on it, the bass will often end up much smoother. There's some crazy portamento and aftertouch settings in there too. Additionally, you can adjust the filter with one of the sliders as you play.
      Also, regarding the sliders/q links... Q1 will usually adjust whatever parameters you have highlighted in the different modes.
      You can also use Q1 & Q2 to adjust the start and end points on the trim mode, but it's kinda prone to being loose and you're best off using the jog wheel most of the time.

    • @jamisondonald384
      @jamisondonald384 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nervouscooks that trick of changing the tuning on the fly with the slider? Go into program, portamento, and adjust the aftertouch. You can do that same trick with the pressure from your fingers and it's f-ing great for vocal samples.
      One more:
      You can assign midi cc values for whatever is on fx 2, so you can (for example) map an expression pedal to one of the midrange values on the eq and have a wah pedal

      @benjafarber1793 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The patch phrase is the best way to get time stretching on the MPC 1k w/ jjos. Unfortunately it’s not great. I bought a new MPC for that reason…but it’s no where near the quality of Ableton and there’s a few issues I have with my MPC key61. I still prefer to use my 1k over it. If you want a “synth” with multi sample capabilities- get a Korg modwave. Getting samples into it is a little harder, but having all the knobs is better than a touchscreen with uneditable keygroups. MPC 1k w/ jjos + modwave> MPC keys

      @@HellcatTheSavage pro tip: import sample you want to chop into ableton, slow it waay down to like 60bpm, then export that sample to the MPC ( 44.1khz-16bit /name less than 14 characters) then slice to patch phrase- speeding up samples always works better than slowing them down

    How well does the sd work? I only ask because I've been using the 1000 for years and I've found that any CF cards over 4GB fail to save properly after a certain amount of times. If I am saving the same file over and over itself eventually it fails to update with the latest changes. Transcend CF 133 4GB work really well and I've never had problems with those.
    I'd urge you to check out this on the sd card (if its over 4GB) and back up to a computer so you don't lose anything.
    Another thing to note is that if you are dropping a ton of files from computer to CF card (or vice versa) via the MPC's built in usb it can take AGES and I've found its quicker getting a CF card reader and doing it without the MPC.
    Nice vid!

    • @nervouscooks
      @nervouscooks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the heads up. So far it’s working like a charm, it’s slow to read when you first plug it into the computer but I’m assuming it’s because of the size. Once it’s recognised it’s speedy enough loading samples on etc. On the 1000 it’s fine so far, no lag in loading and saving but I haven’t pushed it to the limit yet so I’ll keep an eye on it. I bought a card reader a while back and you’re right, much quicker away from the MPC. Appreciate the info 👍

    18:46 Mate, traditionally I thought MPC 'swing' only happens on every other note and not the kick and snare hits. So you won't detect any lateness there on kick or snare unless you've actually applied an offset, not swing per se. Or once you add a hi-hat part that involves eighth notes at least. Actually, I think maybe only sixteenths will reveal swing here. Or am I wrong, and you can apply swing differently to the original way?

      @@StatetrooperBillyBill Interesting. Why? If everything swings the same, with nothing at all being on the grid, there is no swing and nothing to swing against. I've been using sequencers since the 80s but please educate me...

      after moving from a 2000XL after 15 years over to a 1000 w/jjOS recently, i've noticed there seems to be an added function of timing correct or something similar i.e. i thought i had set up the 1000 to auto-correct my timing based off the way i had always done it on the 2000XL, but even with quantize on, the timing wasn't locking because there was one other setting that wasn't set to 100% first and i don't remember having to do this on my 2000XL; i had quantization turned on, but the notes weren't quantizing because of that other setting. i don't know how or if this would affect swing as well, but i remember thinking it probably has to have some effect on those things when i first found out about it. there's swing percentage, which i understand, but if i'm remembering right, there's also a timing correct percentage and that probably affects both quantization & swing. i had quantization turned on, but timing correct set to 0%, so there was zero quantization going on. once i set it to 100%, notes entered in were moved around & adjusted to the correct quantization.

    never clicked with my 1000, but I bought it too early into my beatmaking journey, I didn't really know what I was doing. If I had one now I would probably enjoy it but I'm fully Koala and SP303 pilled now.

      @@nervouscooks I love it, I keep my ipad and 303 on a closed loop with each other so they can sample from one another without moving cables. Lets me use the 303 as an FX box for Koala, or lets me use Koala to have faster chopping for the 303. Best of both worlds.

      No I don’t think so. I do prefer the compressor as I haven’t found one on my One that sounds that good, but I’m not of the opinion that these older MPCs have some magic sound. Maybe the 2000xl but I don’t think these colour the sound that much if at all.
