    I have the same weird feeling for days, I read on a comment the other day about breathing exercise, it work on me! Well, I feel much better now, I just took big breaths with my nose as well as my mouth, also try holding my breath as much as I could and moved my neck up and down and to the sides while I was holding my breath, I also went for a long walk, I'm breathing and swallowing much better!! I'm gonna keep doing it, it's working on me!!

      Hello, congrats for your success. By any chance do you have a video showing this breathing exercise in detail please ? And how many times do you do it? Thank you

    In my early 30’s I had terrible swallowing problems. After a barium swallow test and a motility study I was diagnosed with an enlarged cricophyrangeal muscle that was constricting the esophagus. I had a cricophyrangeal myotomy in 1992. Essentially the muscle was filleted open to loosen its grip around my esophagus. It worked very well. I do have GERD and have been on proton pump inhibitors ever since. I also have a hiatal hernia with causes some scarring at the bottom of my esophagus. Every couple years I need to have a balloon dialation procedure to open it back up. 30 years ago the myotomy was a significant surgery with a couple days in the hospital. The procedure may be much simpler now.

    I have these exact symptoms. The otolaryngologists inserted the camera into my left nostril, down throat and stopped short of my upper esophageal sphincter, so how could he see what's going on with it? I'm having these precise symptoms. Doesn't bother me to eat or drink. Symptoms mostly in evening. The feeling of choking or something stuck at bottom of my throat. It's highly distressing. To the point I'm having bad anxiety. Referred to a gastroenterologist, I believe. I have a history of GERD and hiatal hernia. I haven't felt the symptoms of acid reflux in years. I'm now back on omeprazole and changed my diet. I'm taking Ativan 2-3mg per day until I see the doctor because it's highly stressful walking around feeling like I'm choking, even with the knowledge I'm not. Why aren't all ent docs educated or addressing cricopharyngeal spasm? Is there some medical disagreement going on behind the scenes us mere mortals are unaware of?

      Exactly!!! I had the camera at the ENT too...and an endoscopy, modified barium swallow study, manometry test, Nexium...

    i just want to be able to burp, my whole life i thought burping was a skill. i now realized that burping is a normal body function and i just have a muscle dysfunction. i always sufered from bloating and stomach pain after drinking carbonated drinks and i think its because i am unable to burp.

      I have had this same issue since I was a young kid , and as a kid I could tolerate it , but now being close to 50 yrs old I can’t , I’m going to ent doctors but nobody has been able to figure it out. Have you had anyone figure this out for you ? If you have , can you please share .

    • @ahlaali7934
      @ahlaali7934 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eloypayan3839it’s called RCPD or no burp syndrome. The way to treat it is to inject Botox to the muscle to loosen it up and allowing the air to escape.

    I self diagnosed because multiple doctors, including a ENT doctor, told me they had no idea why I kept feeling short of breath. I was miserable and distressed and quite frankly I thought I was going to die.
    The one thing that helped ASTRONOMICALLY was going gluten free. I know it sounds odd but since becoming gluten free, my symptoms decreased substantially and now they only occur randomly. Sometimes not for weeks at a time.
    Another thing that helps with the acute discomfort is essential oils. I’ve created a mixture using peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, lemongrass oil (all for respiratory support and inflammation) mixed with coconut oil and almost immediately I feel so much better! For anyone wanting to make this: use 30% peppermint, 20% eucalyptus, 10% lemongrass, and coconut for the rest. Good luck everyone!

    You use the singular for this muscle. Is it one or two? In other words, is the cricopharyngeal muscle unpaired or are there instead a right and a left muscle, as in the vast majority of muscles in the human body? Thank you.

    I normally do yoga regularly (because it helps me with my MS). I went on vacation for a couple weeks so I hadn’t done anything and I came back home to this problem. I found the physical and breathing exercises in yoga, helped extremely. There’s a type of breath you take in that sounds like the ocean because it’s through the throat. There are other breaths that include the chin tuck, and bending down to hold the breath that helped too. I was previously incredibly alarmed, by this problem, but I was shocked how much it helped me. It may not work for everyone but it’s worth a try.
