Wow... That is a huge difference !!!! ChokeMasters is what I call them!!! I love the sound... But that is WAY too much power to give up.... I'm running BlackWidow mufflers now... They have the Flowmaster sound but without the drone and powerloss
The worst flowing Flowmaster has to be 80 series crossover. I literally felt like I lost 10hp on a stock 2000 Trans Am Ws6. I owned that system for 13 months, after that the muffler developed a hole about the size of a quarter. Replaced it with a stainless steel Magnaflow and had awesome results.
I really do love the sound of my 3.5" flow masters but I believe the Hooker aero chambers I had on it before made more power. Chambered mufflers kill power. If you can't see through it it's killing your power! Nice comparison man. Thanks subbed
I'm sure you lost Power with the Flowmasters, i meant Crap masters, quite possibly the worst performance muffler out there, super restrictive, exhaust flows into a Wall, many better performance Mufflers out there, Dynomax Ultra Flos are nice.
Been trying to tell people for years that Flowmasters are more restrictive. JMO, but I believe Ultra Flows are the best bang for your buck available right now. They're on my big block and soon to be on my daily driver.
I originally bought the offset flowmasters when I ran a mandrel tailpipe that exited in OE location behind the tires. Not sure how much tweaking it would require now. I'd say once you creep over 525 it probably starts hindering performance.
Thank you for posting this up.this finally puts away all the myths about Flowmaster being the better flowing muffler out there.i been trying to tell them that they dont flow as superior to other brands out there
If you look at construction an offset inlet + outlet on a chambered muffler is going to be far more restrictive for a 700hp engine. Centre in + out would have closed the gap somewhat I reckon but Ultra flows would be less restrictive at high rpm so they going to win on a comparison like this
So true! I almost put my face through the windsheild of my '86 5.0 mustang leaving the muffler shop after swapping the stock mufflers for Flowmaster 2 chambers
Good to know the power numbers, now, what about sound levels? I am looking for a quieter, not so droning Muffler since I drive my cars. Which one was quieter at idle and under WOT?
Now that they have been on you car awhile do you still like them ? I have had a set of 3 chamber Flowmasters on my street/strip car for over 20 year they were great back in the day but I feel better mufflers have come out since then.
Both. This cam is a 108 but the cam I was using prior was a 112. The 112 lsa cam made 680 hp but the car never ran like a 680 hp would. The track doesn't lie so I know it was killing power.
The ultra flow mufflers are packed with a fiberglass layer and mesh layer, drone is essentially non existent with that type of packing. Dynomax also does a turbo style muffler with fiberglass matting which is excellent for a daily application, my brother installed a single one in the mid pipe on his b5 Audi A4 2.8L v6 with no muffler in the back, sounded excellent and had absolutely no drone or rasp, sounded near stock in the cab compared to the super 44 he had on it first which was obnoxiously loud. Nice clean v6 burble with some pops and bangs on decel.
And yet the "race muffler" is quieter in typical driving rpm. Flowmaster claims "The 'Delta' deflectors generate increased scavenging for better performance and reduced interior sound". They are a good noisy muffler and don't kill to much performance at a 500 hp level. After that people should think about about a better option.

@@aslawnscapes1253 sound shouldn't be an issue if you're leaving 50tq/hp on the table. They sound awesome. have heard them on 250-ish SBF 302 (2.5") and a big block mopar (3")
I had same exact flowmasters, then installed same exact Dynomax on my milder 496, a ton of difference, and sounds better. Mine are dumped at the axel. Thanks for the video.
Dynomax produces a smoother, cleaner tone, where the baffled mufflers offer that poppy brash sound. Love how flowmasters sound on a v8 myself but the dynomax still sounds really good, has less drone, and offers better power gains.

Correct areo chambered are like crapmasters but better

ULTRA FLOWS MAKE MY FE SOUND SICK
Thanks for taking the time and $$ to post this. My HP #s are close to yours so a big help in making a choice.

Thanks for posting this, real numbers are hard to beat vs it should or it might or it could make more power.

Awesome testing!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thats a big difference in power.I think 2nd one sounded better and deeper
Good to know the power numbers, now, what about sound levels? I am looking for a quieter, not so droning Muffler since I drive my cars. Which one was quieter at idle and under WOT?
At idle the dynomax are quieter. At WOT I'm not sure but it should be loud.
I must have missed the comparison and the BBC stroker

I have no complaints
@@bure4me I'm thinking about upgrading my 3 chamber Flow master to the Dynomaxs
Now I just need to find something that sounds like a chambered flowmaster but flows like a dynamax
ive heard that flowmasters don't like tight lobe center cams, was this one tight or are the mufflers just that bad

I'm really curious how the drone is on the Ultra Flo mufflers. Looking to get a crossflow/transverse version. Do you know?
Drone? I have a number videos from in the car driving through the mountains and plains. The wind makes more noise.

Note to the unaware, This was a test between a straight thru race muffler vs a baffled street muffler. Just sayin.

What make and model oil pan are you using? Thanks!

That’s a huge difference. And the only change was mufflers?!
I had a welded turndown on the flowmasters but no timing changes or other adjustments.
I couldn't tell from the tiny dyno sheets, what was the difference?

5500rpm 538 lb ft 563 hp
6000rpm 538 lb ft 614 hp

Turn downs on the ones so not fair comparison on sound.
Which are louder?
Flowmaster were louder at idle and cruise rpm. They are both pretty loud at wide open throttle.
