    Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
    Requiem aeternam

    My husband loved this piece of music, I choose it for his funeral when he sadly passed away, too young, last year. I play it regularly as it brings me so much comfort. The purity of the voices never ever cease to soothe my soul.

      Please keep your religious nonsense to yourself. This music transcends any primitive human construct such as god and speaks directly to our human spirit. I don't need to know the colour of your skin or the place you live or anything else about you to be able to share the beauty of this peice with you. I certainly don't need to know what personal religious delusions you suffer from so please, keep your invisible friends to yourself 😁

    • @markspencer8790
      @markspencer8790 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @K C To be fare, you and I agree on far more than we disagree on. Neither of us believe in 99 percent of the gods we created. I just don't believe in 1 more. If every trace of every religion was wiped from the face of the planet, I have no doubt that the stories would endure. In fact even the bible may have been recreated but it would never be quite the same as the original. If every trace of the entirety of scientific knowledge was erased from the face of the planet I am equally confident that it would eventually return. The difference is that it would be exactly and precisely the same knowledge. There is nothing wrong with having ideas about what might happen after we die. An idea is malleable and can be modified in the face of knew discovery. Faith paints itself into a corner and must resort to self delusion to explain knew knowledge. I don't claim to know what happens when we pass but I have more 'faith' in the idea of leaving behind a legacy of kindness, truth and the pursuit of fact. The ripple of one small act of kindness through time and eternity will give me all the heaven I need or deserve. Have ideas, not faith. 😁

      As a Geordie, born and bred in County Durham and for the last fifty years a proud Canadian, I too have happy memories, as a visiting chorister…..of singing and worshipping in that magnificent cathedral. One of my ancient relatives, William by name, like mine, was a leading light in the life of those who served there. His portrait was hanging in the library the last time I visited, umpteen years ago. I hope his bearded image still looks sternly down on one and all. He was also one of the country’s leading archeologists in the Victorian era and sold a couple of his private collections to wealthy Americans. His family enjoyed and prospered from his reputation and his generosity.

    Wow, the Soprano 1 has amazing control! Many times even in full choirs, Soprano 1's can tend to get "screechy" on those high notes and drown out the other singers. Yet even in the smallest 8-part choir possible, this woman blends magnificently!

      That's exactly what I thought. It may be that their voices hit perfect resonance with some of the pipes of the organ behind them. A similar effect can be heard in Vaughan-Williams' Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis, using the "desks" of the string instruments together with the quartet and full string orchestra. All in all, a fantastic vocal group easily on par with the Tallis Scholars.

    Not sure why I have not found this recording before, but have just discovered it this week. This is, without a doubt, one of the most incredibly pure choral/vocal performances I have ever heard. I was always a huge fan of The Kings Singers for similar reasons. And while not always the same genre of music, also love listening to Celtic Woman (especially the early years). But this performance of this, obviously, stunning choral work is simply amazing and inspirational.
    Many have commented on the clarity and control of the Sop; obviously I agree, but I am also so very impressed with the balance that is maintained by the group when the Sop is, in fact, at the top of her vocal range. She is supported at just the right dynamic and intensity at just the right moments, and that allows the flute-like quality of her voice in those passages to be enjoyed and appreciated even more. I could put this on a loop and listen all day. Simply Wow!
