One of the most moving pieces ever written.
This stirs something deep inside of me every time I hear it. Hearing it yesterday during Prince Philip's funeral was especially emotional.
    Sublimely beautiful.

I never used to be a royal fan but i watched the HRH Philip's funeral and when this was played I just realised they are humans at the end of the day and although they are more poerful than us and live different lives they work for our country and make it what it is!

When the band reaches a crescendo and the camera cuts to the Cenotaph and the inscription “The Glorious Dead”. Always gets me.

I have heard many versions of Elgar’s Nimrod played by magnificent orchestras and have been brought to tears but when played by the Guard’s Band at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday it can never be bettered and I’m speechless and overwhelmed.

I attend the Cenotaph each year as a Service Veteran, we all meet up at Horse Guards then March onto Whitehall, we then wait til after the Wreaths are laid, then we start the March Past, Nimrod The Hunter always gets us each time. TO ALL THOSE WHO FELL, WERE INJURED AND WHO FOUGHT AND CAME BACK, WE WILL REMBER THEM.

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
    This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

This music is sublime, but it makes me sad. Why? Because today people are so shallow and selfish, and do not appreciate what they have. Old fashioned values are old because they are good ... that is why they are old. Now, people want instant gratification, they take all they have for granted and do not value the qualities of decency, honesty, manners, humility etc.

National Anthems should be a call to the focus of our patriotism. Elgar's "Enigma", while quite moving, is a call to remembrance of defeat and loss. "God Save the Queen" is a rousing call to remember This Sceptered Isle, its glorious history, and the Crown that has surmounted it, and was for a time, rejected, then surmounted it again.

I'm a high school student, and I "save" a girl in this piece. Every morning I play this, as I get ready to meet her at school. I hope we achieve something good.

Granville Bentley And I'd rather sing an anthem written of whom have died for us, than to our Queen or King.. I'm not anti royalist, I just believe that an anthem should be a tribute to loss and sacrifice. It wouldn't be disrespectful in my opinion, rather it would demonstrate our great respect and gratitude for their sacrifice
