They don't practice this kind of acting anymore when filming.. without feelings or emotion it's a shame you can really dive deep in this movie and lost in the acting it's amazing, definitely underrated

I think you find it in most cultures where someone takes the time and gives the effort to truly see and experience the world around them. All religions have their good points and all have their bad points. Buddhism predates most of them and is very much a faith of the natural world. The film shows this extremely well.

For me, The Last Samurai is not only my favorite film with Tom Cruise, but it is the perfect combination of historical processing of history and values with a perfectly arranged film music by Hans Zimmer ☺️🫶

Still one of my favourite movies of all time. Seriously underrated and beautiful. The music only made it ten times more perfect. I keep coming back to this movie, I watch it at least twice a year. All the actors nailed this but Ken Watanabe and Hiroyuki Sanada were absolutely sublime here. I was so glad to see Hiroyuki play such a big role in Shogun too. He's amazing.

This song reminds me of being in abandoned places and exploring those places. All due to a video o saw way back in 2011. They used this song as background music for test footage they were shooting foe a post apocalyptic story film called The Skirts.

best combat scene in the movie is not the initial charge of the samurai in which the technologically superior troops were slain murderously by the braver and more disciplined samurai. it was the dueling draw. when Algren earns the respect of his brutal teacher. this... was victory.

Just my personal interpretation. Tom Cruise's character was a warrior through and through. But I think what broke him (in the first "half" of his life) is the non existent recognition of the other side of warfare. What he saw and knew was the uglier side of warfare and that haunted him (explaining the shame and guilt and nightmares) throughout. His second half of his life showed him the duality of warfare. The fact that you should be fearless and afraid, that you should be willing to kill and be killed, to feel nonchalance and regret/guilt, that you should be stoic and also feel sadness for leaving your family. He was a "romantic" who just so happened to be born as a warrior.

I agree with some other comments. Always said this movie was underrated to be sure. Cruise was superb and at his best. The score is magnificent. Soul reaching. One of Zimmer's best. Bravo Zulu.

best combat scene in the movie is not the initial charge of the samurai in which the technologically superior troops were slain murderously by the braver and more disciplined samurai. it was the dueling draw. when Algren earns the respect of his brutal teacher. this... was victory.
After all these years, it’s only today I realized the music was composed by Hans Zimmer. Background score is the soul of this epic movie, complementing every emotion every moment scene by scene

Just my personal interpretation. Tom Cruise's character was a warrior through and through. But I think what broke him (in the first "half" of his life) is the non existent recognition of the other side of warfare. What he saw and knew was the uglier side of warfare and that haunted him (explaining the shame and guilt and nightmares) throughout. His second half of his life showed him the duality of warfare. The fact that you should be fearless and afraid, that you should be willing to kill and be killed, to feel nonchalance and regret/guilt, that you should be stoic and also feel sadness for leaving your family. He was a "romantic" who just so happened to be born as a warrior.

Only God can make us whole, because we were made to search for Him.
