I was watching you use the hammer and heat and I'm talking to the screen "make some weld dogs!" then about a minute later I see you made one. they sure come in handy for stuff like this. glad I could pass on some of the little knowledge I have 😁😁😁
Way back in the early 80’s I was given a 1969 Chevy 1 ton dump I did the exact thing uou are doing, made a lot of money with host truck lasted almost 8 more years your bringing back many hood memories Thanks 🎃
If you get tired of cleaning tips and all the black nasty crap from acetylene switch to propane. Cuts clean and doesn’t pop and carry on like acetylene. It’s cheaper, safer, easier to access, handles dirt and rust better. Best part is, if you run out you can just go steal the bottle of your outdoor gas grill. Only thing you need is to swap to a propane/ natural gas tip for the torch. Been using it for 18 years and works great. Just a slight learning curve to lighting it because wind will blow it out. There’s a very simple trick to it. Anyone that dislikes it has very little time spent using it. I’ve cut 2” steel with it so no comments it don’t get hot enough.
Where I work. We take old C-clamps. Cut of the end to make the pushers. Work wonderful. I just watch and wait for the funny stuff. You never fail, so I'll always watch.
Mike there is nothing better than learning how to weld etc when the work is for someone else. You found today that the second plate went quicker and a little easier from small errors when welding down the first one. That is how MBTS learnt centuries ago and he isn't to bad on welding. I always use stick when welding outside, but that is just my preference others would not agree, but as you say you do things your way for yourself and not to please others, and so it should be. It is a wonder that there was enough metal to alow you to weld those plates, I was sure that you would blow holes through it somewhere but you did good my friend. Not bad at all for someone who is a fulltime fireman and not an engineer. Stay safe and take care
Hey Good mornin’ Cap’n! That spiral staircase got me kinda excited! Perhaps you found the piece you need to access the deck of the TH-cam yacht? It can work both as egress and ballast too!!! But, if it turns out to not fit… all is not lost. With your mastery of metalworking skills…. You can fab up a 3 point hitch and PTO drive that allows you to mount it on the 755. Think of the opportunities an auger that size would present! You can dig a root cellar under the chick-goat barn where Wild Roots can store her canned veggies. Or, dig a shallow well for a cistern to collect roof runoff. Think how handy that would be for watering the garden or animals! Cap’n the possibilities are endless! A staircase and giant auger bit are only the beginning. Good luck on acquiring this much needed artifact! Now about those patches… looking at how much more denim jeans are worth with holes in them… I think it is only fair to advise DP that patching the holes may have reduced the resale value of the dump truck!
Thats how you learn Mike is just tackle these job head on. Your doing a Good Job.. Ive always turned my Gas up and oxygen, on my torch when heating a piece of steel up too bend. It heats it up quicker. But everyone does thing differently.Great Video..
The best part about dump bed repair is the welds just have to hold, they don't have to be pretty. I know it was a plow truck in it's previous life and out where you live they throw down salt like it will stop it from snowing but, it looks like someone got a bit too heavy handed trying to loosen stuck material with a bucket. Those clamps are really a great idea, I will be sure to keep them in mind. Welding is like truck driving, always something new to learn.
Hey Captain, how’s the rivalry with your new competition in the investment property world? You may have to fit cannons to your yacht, sail it up the Ohio, and lay siege to Mr Millennials castle
Enjoyed the video Mike. Also enjoying how you are grouping the videos of late keeping things in more of an order. You keep posting and I'll keep watching.
Flapper discs are great for finishing work, try a twisted bristle wire wheel for removing rust prior to welding as it gets into all the little dimples where a flapper won't. Good job Captain
Hi Mike thanks for another interesting video. I hope DP’s subs are watching this. They’ll be over joyed to see you power washing the equipment before working on it. They’re always getting on at him to power wash stuff first before working on it. 😎🇬🇧
Dirt Perfect will be happy with the repairs. Thanks for the demo on parasitic draw from battery crud. I've seen that one before. Hope you guys got some of the rain these last few days.
Kapena, thank you for the video. All the welders in Hawai`i start and finish their careers patching rust holes like this. The rust we get is so aggressive it's hard to know where to get started. The first gut reaction is to condemn it, but then you just get on with it. Sometimes it is just about getting down the road to the next job.
Hi from Paris, France, Lt Cpt ! Geez: that spiral staircase would come pretty handy in the TH-cam yacht🤔 And that truck-bed power-washing was SO darn satisfying ! Power washing always makes for some great TH-cam content if you ask me (although no one did !😅). Can't wait for the end of this on Sunday ! Thanks again for the awesome content, Mike ! 😊👍👍👍
Shade tree workshop serving its purpose again, bit rain never stopped you long, you always find something to fill the time in !! I think you are right to use steel plate, expanding foam just doesn't have the same properties 😂 Flea market purchase was definitely worth it !!! 😁💪
Good morning Captain, hope this comment finds you well. I noticed around the 1:30 mark that one of the bottom rollers (right side closest to the camera) on the 120 looked a little odd. It could just be the angle, but I thought I would mention it. Thanks again for your time and effort that you put into your videos. Take care.
Hi Mike. I heard on another channel that some of their subscribers mysteriously became un-subscribed. People should make sure they are still subscribed.
Good one! Sounded like you were doing a little KARATE with the grunts! I always maintained that the "8500" was a busy and good machine. Hope it goes to a good home - "MAYBE YOU"!!!
Gotta say. Just started watching you the past week or so. Informative yet highly uneducational. Lol. Pure joke. Just sounds like something you would say. Keep up the good work.
I like your home-made clamp. I have an abundance of Armstrong Bros C-clamps and I have been known to cut one or two up to do the same thing as your homemade clamps. You are getting better with practice.
Captain in this present day of “Workplace of the Future/Now” that’s what you call working from home😂 lots of benefits🧐 You are pushing MBTS right out of the picture it looks like😞 Great show👍🇺🇸
Captain you deserve a nice working backhoe, i have faith in your ability to succeed, can't wait to see you get back at it, and thanks for today's video great as always 👍👍👌
I highly recommend a wire wheel for cleaning cruddy steel. Lasts a long time, doesnt gum up and gets into low spots like pits and gouges that a flap wheel wont. Oddly enough I am subbed to both you and DP, but always get notifications of your vids but never his. His are always in the top of my feed when he uploads though so I dont usually miss them.
You have come a long way from your first torch cut and weld bead. Love IC Weld's temp clamp concept. A lot of way to adapt that concept to different applications. Thank very much for sharing.
5:55! Ha! Thought I would be early and waiting for your video this morning, but you got me with that 5 minutes before 6 thing! Thanks for the entertainment.
@@CaptainKleeman actually the notification of your video finally came through. But around four to six hours after i had viewed it and the same thing happened with Dirt Perfect’s. I have no idea why such a delay. I don’t believe this has ever happened to me before. I was just passing this message along to you both because you both mentioned it happening to others. Usually you two are among the first i watch each morning when you post. I always look forward to them. Thank you for sharing!
Thats good that you keep track of hours. If it were me or my dad helping out a friend it would be a favor or only 2-3 hours pay. lol. But a job that big is expensive and very time consuming. Great vid/repair.
Mike, I've found that when bending steel plate, it's less time and labor consuming to score the line almost all the way through and ben the plate "towards" the scoring. You then need to fill in the line with weld, but that's so far been much quicker than any of the alternatives I've tried. The downside to this approach is if you need a sharp bend in a thick plate, you'll need to score the line wider to allow for the bend. I'd wager that it's still faster - and definitely easier - than wearing out your new flea market find trying to coax the plate inte place. ;)
Nice one . Captain. Looking forward to the follow up. Pleased you are going to work on the backhoe. And ya four wheel steering will get you round tight corners on the side by side you are making. The vid's are going to great to watch. Thank you for them.
After the 210 purchase, Lt. Dan may be on the back burner indefinitely…lol! Can’t wait to see you get back onto the 555. I know you’re gonna get that beast to fire. Thanks for sharing Cap!
I've been in your shoes Mike, patching gravel boxes, fun fun fun, not. Try some 5" disc' on your grinder and a wire wheel for cleaning rusty steel. They seem to work better for us anyway. Keep smilin
Hello Captain. This repair Work exact what You love! Work with Iron and Cutting torch and Welder. The Dump Truck can not to go to pieces. Good Work 👍👌 Greeting 🇦🇹
I really like that dump truck. I've got a plan. I'm gonna hit the lottery, buy the C8500, and start my own UBER. Lol. Your idea about the rear steering would work quite well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Again very interesting and entertaining. Love your humor, had me laughing at the imagination session. Job looking great for just patching it together, quick and dirty. Wishing you and your family the best.
Mike you need to invest in a mig welding set which would be much easier and quicker especially with thin metal areas.😊 Great work all the same thoughmate👏👏👍🏻Dave Liverpool UK.
