Cap’n your first commercial welding job gets a 👍!!!
A little heat tempering of the air lines should harden them off so they aren’t too flexible… ‘cause a floppy hose is awfully hard to work with!
Those welding rod butts don’t hurt much of anything. I pulled one out of my neighbors cart tire last month… it only took about 15 minutes to plug and air it back up.
Glad to see you got the backhoe heads machined… I turned a dowel and fit it to my drill and the suction cup. It made valve seating go a lot quicker. They polished up in just a few minutes.
    See you next Thursday.

Someone else said that Mike is lucky to have you. I agree with them for all the reasons stated but inadequate one more: you provide a perspective about him that doesn’t come through on his own channel….at least not as well. He is a kind and generous man that just happens to like being funny on occasions (or all the time). With you, it is easy to see that it is a moment of fun at nobody’s expense …whereas sometimes, the other two guys are competing for “ego” moments that annoy.
Most of all, it is evident that his generosity towards you is usually made up for in other ways (beneficial to Mike) and even if it wasn’t, he still wins bc his efforts are recognized and appreciated.

After watching a video or two I got to noticing some familiar scenes, signs and heard you all mention a couple of places...Derby and Tell City. Several years ago I used to come up a couple times per year and stay with an uncle and cousin out in a little camp area I think maybe on Bayou Rd there in Derby. We would fish around there some and go out on the river occasionally. Thanks for the memories! Keep up the good work!

Hey Mike, the dump bed has what's known as rust jacking as well as wear from years of use and little maintenance, IMHO. I'm also repairing a similar dump bed but on a smaller F-SUPER duty 10' bed. I chose to go with thinner metal to repair the same rust jacking spots after I beat out as much rust jacking as I could and then flattering the area as good as possible to weld in patches. I even cut out completely one area with a plasma cutter and welded in a new solid metal patch but uts much to time consuming for my needs. After I've used the truck some I intend to put a complete replacement skin over my prior patches. Of course I have a 220V wirefeed welder making it a bit faster, easier. My issue is I'm disabled after being crushed by a shidsteer in 2004, pain is my new future sadly. Your doing a great job on the bed and don't let Dirt perfect tell you any different.

Love your stuff. Suggestion for you. If you’re wife will let you put your welding rods in the refrigerator. Like any metal they will corrode over time. That is a moisture free environment and they will last you a long time if you don’t do welding every day. Also on the heavier gauge steel I will push the puddle instead of pulling it. The small amount of preheat from the arc will help the stack of nickels flow better. You did good sir for your first time. Hi from Texas

Hey Mike a better dog then the screw type. Is to make a side ways L dog and wedge type from 1/2" or 3/4" scrap plate. We used these in the ship yards for decades. ----->By welding one end on one side of the L dog to the deck or surface metal over hanging the new plate. Than driving the long steel wedge between the L dog and the plate. This pulls both the plate downwards and the surface metal together. It can also be used to align two plate ends together weld diagonally for end to end V bevel welding. Less tools to carry around from job to job. All👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍's for making what ya know work. ------------>On another note Captain have you found an old iron anchor for the boat house yet?

I appreciate that you gave my suggestion on how to bend the plate a go, Mike. I'd argue that you can cut the groove even deeper though, to a point where you can bend the plate by hand without heating. You are adding a thick bead of weld on the outside after all so the final result should be strong enough, at least for this type of application.
Thanks for another great video. :)

Hey Mike, On those Weld Screws mounts, I noticed that when you tighten down the screw, it has a single point of push. Maybe you weld some thick angle iron on the bottom of the screw to spread out the compression. Also, time to get some welding tools to help bend the steel. The pipe wrench did good, but you can do better, and their fairly cheap! Nice weld job!

@@CaptainKleeman It took being shamed to get him to start though, he has a problem coming off the wallet for obvious maintenance issues. It's ok if he wants that to be his "Thing" on TH-cam but I quit watching him because of it.

Something that might help you is if your plates aren't to far away from your work, you can make some 1/2" tacks an inch or 2 away and hit on the weld while hot with a big hammer and smash it tight with out having to clamp it. You have to hit it while red or youcan break the weld. Then you can go back and fill the gaps. A fine gob you are doing.
