    Easiest way to get the wear ring in for the backyard mechanic is to stack the old one on top of the new one and then flip the cushion ring upside down and stack it on top of that. Alot easier then looking for a socket.

    Jobs like these having a picker truck would make things so much easier. Another option to take it into the shop is get a big heavy flat piece of steel and put the rod in the press and press down on the eyelet holding it down to the table on the press. When i got my bucket cylinder rebuilt on my 230 hitachi, the rod end got mushroomed slightly from the previous owner slamming the bucket open to try get material to come out of the bucket. So had to take it into a machine shop to get the end of the nut and the threads taken off.

    Mike next time you have a metal Sleeve to put in and you know about it. Put new metal sleeve in a Freezer while your taking the seals out. And once you have old sleeve out and your ready for new one get it out of freezer and it should just Drop right in. And all youll have too do is put snap ring back on. That way you dont have to worry about damaging new sleeve. Should work good for things like that. Just a suggestion Sir. You got it in anyhow I was just giving You another way is all. Great Job Sir. Great Video...

    @ 17:17, that ring is called a "guide ring" by paperwork I've seen. Some such 'paperwork' call it a wear ring as well.
    "Guide rings, also known as wear rings and bearings, are used to guide the piston and rod in a hydraulic cylinder. These rings absorb radial forces that act perpendicularly to the cylinder. Also, these bearings prevent contact between sliding metal parts, thereby optimizing seal performance."

    You should always take a cylinder apart with the rod all the way in you lose less oil. Also if you can, generally the fittings on the side. If it has a hose that goes to it, take the hose off, hook up a heater hose to it. So whenever you're pulling out or compressing the cylinder that oil is going to come out through the heater hose and you get direct it wherever you want it to go.

    When I get stuck on snap rings or seals. I like to get real close. With a gentle but convincing voice tell it. "Your coming out even if I need to melt you." Usually works a out 70% of the time everytime. Maybe next time you have to replace seals. Lay them out in a line so it's super easy to put back. Plus you can remember the orientation of the seal. Maybe use some hydraulic fluid on the seals as you put them in. That word you were looking for "grub screw"

    Don't know if someone else has said it but never lubricate anything that is a pressed fit (bushing/bearing race). Always clean both surfaces and install dry. The reason there is a press fit is to insure it doesn't move and oil can cause it to slip free and also change the tolerance on the inside diameter. Other than that good job.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can't skip free. Held in with a lock. No concern there. Appreciate you looking out though

    • @davidmorse8432
      @davidmorse8432 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you are saying is not necessarily true. The interference fit is dependent on each of the two joining parts deforming ever so slightly so that the assembly can be completed. I always lubricate these pieces because, depending on the specified tolerances, the mating parts can seize together before the assembly is complete. Then you may damage either one of the two mating parts by applying excessive force, and that can cause all kinds of nightmares. There is one exception and that is bearing races. For these you can use a compound called, "bearing retaining compound". This lubricates during assembly but then hardens afterwards to hold bearings securely in place. Bosses for bearings can become larger after many hours of use and the original press fit tolerances may not be available.

I’m pretty certain there are very few jobs you couldn’t eventually figure out. Was a little reminiscent of watching the “Precision Transmission” shop from Amarillo TX that has a TH-cam channel and records the tear downs and explains the points of wear they find and how all the little giblets inside a transmission works. Might be something to do if the Subaranger ever needs to be serviced. Had me 😂 with the we can’t be friends if you actually use a proper breaker bar followed by you using a proper breaker bar with next level cheater pipes in the next two shots. Hopefully you can still be friends with yourself. Looking forward to seeing more in the future, wishing you and your family the best.

      @@CaptainKleeman haha yeah . You’d be surprised how well that works for marketing around here. There’s hundreds of guys in our area. My son and I were in the restaurant parking lot fixing something . this couple came out and said” I’ve seen you all around town with your blue stuff “. Then we started talking and they want us to do work for them . My son says The color seems to be psychologically inviting and a conversation Ice breaker . I just know it’s gonna be expensive for the 315. I’m thinking 3 gallons 😂

    I think I would leave the barrel end pinned to the dipper stick. Pull the back pin from the bucket so you could get enough travel to remove the rod from the cylinder. Use the chain come along to control the movement of the cylinder rod as it is separated from the barrel so that it doesn't flop down and damage the finish on the rod.

      Thought about it, then I have nothing holding the cylinder when I torque the glad nut off.

      @@CaptainKleeman It would still be pinned to the linkage because that pin remains in place. The only pin removed would be the pin that goes directly on the bucket. The linkage would restrain the rod just as it did for you.

    I was scared for you, operating on DPs 120 took more nerves than I'd have, but of course, it all turned out fine as usual

    A trick is to put the wear sleeve in freezer the night before. It will shrink and once installed, it will return to original size as it comes to room temperature.
