  • How to hit Rocket Ship Forehands and Win More Points
“Dude you’re hitting ROCKET SHIPS!!!” -Former Top 100 ATP pro Jeff Salzenstein
Jeff was teaching me how to crush inside out forehands when he told me I was hitting “Rocket Ship Forehands”!
Anytime you can hit a forehand instead of a backhand you should…. And here is why!
Because you are using the dominant side of you body 9 out of 10 players hit Bigger forehands than backhands.
Plus when you STEP around the backhand to hit a forehand the geometry of the court starts to work for you instead of against you.
Stepping around the backhand gives you the opportunity to do some MAJOR damage and be totally unpredictable whether you play singles or doubles.
Inside in shots become like cross court shots which gives you more margin and more angles to work with.
Inside out shots are so much harder to read, and move off the court in a hurry!
To be honest I have always struggled with this shot and therefore missed out on a lot of opportunities to finish off points I know I should be winning.
That is why I was grinning from ear to ear when Jeff said to me “Dude you are hitting rocket ships”
Not only did it feel great but I knew when you saw this tip it would instantly make sense once you saw it.
The move is totally counter intuitive but REALLY REALLY helps you drive the ball.
You have got to try this...you will impress yourself!
    Cool story….
A couple days after I took my lesson with Jeff, I saw Federer get the same exact ball against Stan Wawrinka at the French Open and Roger hit it the same exact way Jeff taught me.
No wonder this guy has wins against Marty Fish, Justin Gimblestob, and was up a set against Michael Chang on Arthur Ashe Stadium when he was #2 in the world!
Jeff teach me the Rocket Ship Inside Out Forehand
    Enjoy,
    Your Totally Obsessed Tennis Coach
    Pete
    P.S.
If you have not watched the first two lessons watch them ASAP because in a couple of days I am going to invite you on a Forehand Journey like NEVER before. You will get to participate in one of the MOST rewarding tennis experiences of my life!

Devil is in the detail? Aiming the tape, and low, finishing high follow through. In the end it's like there are two different types of forehand. That's very detailed explanation from a coach. In addition to that he says he learned that from Landsdorp. That's incredible knowledge!!!! Thank you!

Such great instruction! I can’t wait to go outside and practice. I’m really lacking in the follow through.....got to remember to aim low and finish high...thanks so much!!

That motion is the start of the analysis of the many elements that can be explored within the realm of the forehand. Stance and leg "loading", preparation of the arm and position of where the racquet head is facing and how "low" it is at swing initiation , and varying degrees of axial rotation of the entire arm through the swing path - allowing for "windshield wiper" to impart spin, are other important elements.

Just amazing lesson ! I've tried it yesterday, and in my case I had to aim at the bottom of the net to make them go slightly over lol, but I can still see the result and the speed I was able to produce , very good lesson guys !

That's more or less my situation. I have a very good top spin forehand, with a lot or margin, high and good bounce but it's hard for me to finish or crush a winner.
That forehand looks a lot like Jimmy Connors's , in his book he says that he always aims very low and Like hitting flat ( and that Pancho Segura was always worried on the stands because of it )
Good to have advantages of both styles , in the last decade I think the top spinny and ''windschield wiper forehand '' has done good but also some bad labeling a flat shot like ''old school'' or obsolete .
Thanks to you and Jeff, nice video

Consistent power on the forehand. Find myself playing consistent tennis too often and that leads to rolling the ball in and much longer rallies. I then pickup the pace and result is good, but once I start missing a few I regress back to rolling the ball in.

Before this video I was always trying to hit even with higher topspin in inside-out forehands than my normal rally balls to create wider angles and make the ball land in the court with that angle. I will try the flatter and faster shot as in this video in my next match and see how it feels.

Though I like Jeff, I have to say that I don't understand why he wants to finish high all the time. I think the finish depends on the position of the ball at contact. If the ball is positioned near shoulder level, you want to finish at your waist to drive the ball down. You can watch Fed videos on he does this. If the ball is below your waist and you want a more topspin shot, you can finish high. But I prefer to have my wiper higher but still finish at the waist because I like to drive the ball as much as possible. Remember that you are closer to the net with most of these shots and you don't need much topspin to get past the net, so finishing high is not really necessary.

consistency and timing, how to do this with a fast ball not a drop feed

    • @miguelbarahona6636
      @miguelbarahona6636 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Practice!. First, check if you can do it with drop feeds. Even pro´s practice wih drop feeds. If the ball is super fast, probably it´s not a good idea to hit an inside out forehand. But in a match, you´ll have short, slow or medium paced balls to your backhand, that you can run around to hit a forehand.

  • @dropshot118

I don't understand that inside out follow-through, most pros finish across their bodies. - if you finish high, wont the ball go high? How does it just skim over the net when your finish is that high?
