How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra - Magisk - Full Step-by Step Video Guide

- Hello everyone,
Here is a complete step-by-step video guide of a very safe method for rooting the Galaxy S21 (or any other Exynos-based S21 such as the S21+ & S21 Ultra) and installing Magisk onto it.
Just make sure you follow all the steps in the correct order and that you don't skip any!
Also, make sure you download the correct firmware file for your device variant (you can find out very easily the variant/CSC by using the Phone Info app from the Play Store).
It works only on Exynos-powered S21 devices (S21 - S21+ - S21 Ultra including all 5G versions), not on Snapdragon versions.

For anyone with Android 12 having issues of Magisk not showing up after using Odin, be sure to use the LATEST version of Magisk available to patch the AP file. That's what worked for me.

Mine didn't appear, used root checker and it was positive(is it wrong if I had to install it manually afterwards?) Did on a macbook(parallel app).

I managed to install after 5 hours, did everything right except unlocking the bootloader in the beginning.. Thought I bricked(literally had the error img and couldn't connect.. In the end, somehow, I retraced my steps and it worked out.. On a mac book pro with the parallel Windows machine, great tutorial, still valid🤣🤣

Have developer options but cannot find OEM unlock option on Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G; can i proceed?
Maybe (and hopefully) one day rooting Samsung phones will be as easy as at OnePlus.
tbh it doesn't look that hard, but where the oneplus rooting experience is in another level is with MSM download tools!
It doesn't matter how much you fuck up your oneplus, you can brick it how much you want, if you download MSM download tools your phone will be as good as new!

There is no OEM unlocking under developer mode on my s21 fe
USA carrier sponsored phones not allowed to oem unlocking. it's impossible to unlock the bootloader on that phones.
A year later this guide is still accurate so long as you follow it precisely using the same exact versions he used. Using a more recent version of odin will not work at least not when I did it

Needs Magisk 26.3 + Odin 3.13.1 for Aug 2023 stock firmware Android 13 UI5.1

@@Void_Shark It didn't work, showing up with 'Not Registered on Network' Error. It now has a MIPI fail which needs a combination ROM to fix but isn't available yet for the version I'm on.
Going to try to root with TWRP method to fix this.🤞🤞

Unfortunately, the magisk application does not appear for me. And I checked with rootchecker, the phone is not rooted. Any help ?
I have the same problem... everything appeared to go to plan, but after the last wipe the magisk app didn't appear in the app drawer for me
Main reason against root for me is that bank apps often tries to detect if device rooted, and if it is, it wont work.
I'm definitely sure there are workarounds, but never dug deep enough to find some info about that.
Question from me would be, how I can test apps for their behavior, before rooting device, emulators?

Thank you very well explained. Done with an S21 FE Snapdragon, remember unlocking the bootloader so the AP don't get blocked by the OEM.

You can always reset it with knox on a pc

I tried it on S21 Ultra Android 14 Exynos. After flashing through Odin 11:57, on first boot, it loads to Android Recovery (in yellow) with error "Can't load Android system" (in red), which is not seen in this video. Select the "Factory data reset" and wait for it to reboot to Startup Setup. Copy the Magisk apk and install again. Magisk will ask you to restart.

I think you need magisk Canary, this is the only version that support android 12

You're right about the better performance and battery life, but with if being rooted, hopefully it'll catch up.
Why i opted for this one over the snapdragon; is because the avaiability as i found a great supplier for new ones or completlt refurbished ones and the dual sim feature was too attractive to pass up

My phone doesn't have the oem unlocking in developer options. I've had it since the day it came out too, so date and time isn't an issue.
if ur phone doesnt have the option go to his next step where he boots the phone up by holding the vol-up and vol-down plus power button while plugging in the usbc at the same time. try that

MY S21 ultra xfinity doesn't go into download mode. When I hold power and up keys I get the recovery menu . I choose reboot to downloader . Press the side key. The phone restart instead. It is pissing me off

I did everything as outlined and I keep getting stuck in a bootloop (S21 plus Exynos). Previously I owned the S20 plus and I could root it without any problems.
your phone might got bricked,maybe it was the csc code, the firmware name, the magisk patched , or anything.
after all you know what you are doing right?
You download the wrong firmware the only reason.
Like slayer said you most likely tried to flash the wrong firmware mostly all bootloops are recoverable
I tried another way and it worked flawlessly. After flashing TWRP I installed the pre-rooted BeyondRom 1.7
@@toastlover73 stop using the term "bricked" bricked means that the phone is as useful as a brick and in a bootloop thats not the case you can recover it
But my device is locked. How will I got to the dev mode and activate those settings? I'm unable to enter the download mode

use Magisk module named Universal Safetynet fix v1.1.1 bykdrag0n and you should pass it
My biggest problems with Samsung, Sony and other android devices, it is impossible to make screen shot or screen recording from bank accounts and Paypal and other sensitive privacy apps.
On the iPhone you can record any thing with screen recorder or take screenshots from any app all so the bank app.
Is it possible with this magisk root that we can decide by your self to turn on or off the screenshots possibilities.
After i done all the steps the magisk app do not appeared installed ay my phone, thus the device wasn't rooted...why? I have done everything correclty

I downloaded the firmware using Frija just like you but my file is called "SM-G998B_1_20210707151709_uqt88pjxtw_fac.zip.enc4" and didnt come in a zip folder :/

I have problem with in this process, when I use magisk patched file as AP it won't pass modem.bin... I'm stuck in odin waiting modem.bin... do I need to wait so long? or could be possible that the file broken during patch file copy process or any idea? ^^ thanks ^^ (I am able to flash with stock AP file it is working, just patched file stays on modem.bin)

Can I ask your opinion on recovering data. My phone was factory reset a week ago and my last backup was 1 year ago. Will rooting my phone allow a software such as disk digger or fonepaw to find all my deleted files ?
What does it happen if you try to use "Factory data reset"? It will keep the latest firmware or somehow go tho the initial firmaware? I suppose it will keep the last firmware, but just want to have a confirmation from you. Thanks. Great video, btw!
