How to Root Samsung Galaxy S20/S20+/S20 Ultra/Note 20 - Magisk - Full Video Guide

- Hello everyone,
Here is a complete video guide of a method I devised for rooting the Galaxy S20 (or any other Exynos-based S20 such as the S20+ & S20 Ultra & Note 20) and installing Magisk onto it.
Just make sure you follow all the steps in the correct order and that you don't skip any!!
Also, make sure you download the correct firmware file for your device variant (you can find out which one you have by using the Phone Info app from the Play Store).
It works only on Exynos-powered S20 devices (S20 - S20+ - S20 Ultra including all 5G versions), not on Snapdragon versions.

Probably the most explained rooting method ever, I think this method works on any samsung device powered with exynos. Because I try this method on my Galaxy A30 and it worked without any problem. Just remember that rooting you galaxy device will trip knox causing some samsung services not to work since its rooted (Like Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, Samsung Internet Private mode, Secure Folder, etc.) Which I rarely even use.

June 2024 still works, rooted my S20+(5G) on Android13(oneUI 5.1)
Obviously had to get the latest Magisk from their website and the latest stock firmware.

So good to live in Germany. They SAY it voids the warranty but that doesn't hold up.
You'd have to prove that you didn't damage the device by your actions but software modifications usually don't damage the device.
For the love of god PLEASE dont follow this tutorial, it's over 4 years old and not updated, you can very easily brick your phone using this method.

No snapdragon s20 can't be rooted it's has a locked boot loader and yeah follow this method it works but just downgrade first
I have unlock bootloader option in developer settings Snapdragon cpu, does it work?
there is no "oem unlocking" box in developer options.

I have a G980F Panama model S20 4G and I do not see the Oem unlocking in developer options. Is this mean I do not need to turn on or something wrong? the CPU is Samsung Exynos 990. Update: When I connected to the wifi and sign in to google account, it came :)

You need to pay 150 dollars to unlock the bootloader and look up note 20 ultra snapdragon root on xda

I have a silly question but I rather ask than brick my phone, does the region of stock Samsung ROM needs to have the same region of the one I have for my phone, or should it be the region I am on, or should I just get the latest one for my model regardless of region?

Not the same CPU, not the same exploit to root it. And you cant unlock the bootloader on the snapdragon.

I just got an S20 + SM-G985F/DS. I can't seem to find the OEM unlocking option in the developer options. I've also tried some tricks I found on other channels such as modifying the date, still doesn't show. I have an exynos version non-5G. I tried going to download mode, and still says OEM L. Any insights would be helpful. Many thanks!

Great explanation at all! I'd like to ask that you're just patched the boot image and flashed it, in order to get root. I've flashed my galaxy tab a7 a week before and I had to flash the whole firmware to get root access. So is it not neccecary to flash the whole firmware for the s20 to get root access right?? Where this Magisk App release from? The magisk manager you shared doesn't look the same as where you can download the Magisk manager from official website.

Can i install twrp recovery throught the official twrp app and then when i update my system i will lose root access, right? So what if i will install magisk AFTER that update trought twrp recovery, not trought odin, download mode and trought the erasing/factory reset process. Will it root successfully?
After changing the date, the update fails and gives an error.

Just a quick question: I'm aiming to root my device in order to use a phone recovery app that can do a deep scan on my s20's internal memory and hopefully recover the photo's I accidentally deleted (I deleted them in Windows Explorer on my laptop having my phone connected with usb as an external drive). In your video your mention files will be all gone after unlocking bootloader, so I was wondering: how does this affect the chance to find and recover the lost photo's after factory reset? Since that is exactly why I want to root the device in the first place. Thank you in advance!
I have the software already to flashing my S20 ultra, the number has same with the serial number of the phone, but why while I installed in this phone with this tutorial, that is isn't installed. "Only official realized binaries are allowed to be flashed (boot)"
might as well use twrp, and be able to flash any rom, rooting and keeping the same rom is lame af

I'm trying to install a custom app on Android Auto and I'm not sure its worth rooting.
You can simply reflash all the stock images with Odin.. download the latest stock ROM via SamFirm and you're good to go; be aware that it will wipe your device though
Can you also make a video on how to get a custom rom like lineagos or crdroid on the device? Especially now after 2 years.
Does WiFi-calling work for you guys? I have the same S20+ 4G dual-sim (sm-g985f) phone that he has in the video. It still has factory firmware on it but there's not a Wifi-Calling option in the settings menus.

Just bought a s20 ultra brand new I'm guessing it's on a low ofw it has a snapdragon would I still be able to root it I heard you said you can root a snapdragon I was reading online if the phone has never been updated it would work?
