    Wow! I had no idea you could clone petunias until now! Cool! I have about 50 growing downstairs and I was thinking they needed to be pinched (planted them way to early! Lol) so now I know I’ll clone the cutting I take off the plants! Thanks! 😁👍

    Hey Mike, I just took cuttings of my bubble gum tunias 2 days ago and I remembered you had a prior video about that so I watched that one again and did a tray of tunia’s, homestead verbena, and cabricholia’s. They are in the greenhouse now so hopefully they do well!
    I love these videos Mike!! You don’t realize how much you help us Mike, you’ve taught me so much about all of this and I’ve been around this stuff almost 50 years so you can teach an old dog new tricks young man and I thank you for it and I know my wife will appreciate it even more when she has a beautiful yard this summer and I didn’t spend a fortune on it.

    Great video Mike. Epsom salts...my best friend (Grahame) aged 11 slipped a teaspoon into his mum's tea on the morning of his sister's ( Gayle) wedding. I was terrified he'd poisoned her. Fortunately it all worked out in the end, Gayle had a fantastic day. Brenda, Grahame's mum unfortunately didn't give the speech she'd prepared due to other commitments, Grahame's day didn't end so well!

    Instead of using Perlite and Peat Moss, lately I have been using Coconut Coir and Pumice, which seems to be better. I think coco coir is better than peat moss because when the peat moss is dry, it doesn't absorb water as well as coco coir. Pumice is better than perlite because it doesn't float to the top as easily.

    1/4 teaspoon per gallon of miracle grow is for houseplants. I always used 1 TBS per gallon for outdoor container plants, especially heavy feeders like petunias. You said you used 1/4 tsp but weren’t sure, maybe that’s why it underperformed, if that was the case.

    As a fluke I accidentally pulled off a 4” petunia stem and just stuck it in some previously used tomato seed starting soil in my winterizing water jug experiment. At first it didn’t look like it was going to survive but too lazy to pull out & forgot about it. Viola! Next thing I see is a flower blooming from it. It’s always a hit or miss on plants every yr so I’ve grown custom to them dying & always amazed when they don’t. Plants are so much stronger than we think they are.

    Hi Mike, SO excited to see a new video! I am curious about how you propagated the petunia cuttings back in January. What environment did you use? Was it the same as your other petunia cuttings from your previous video? It looked like you were using a grow light and they were indoors? I was hoping you could explain a bit more in detail about how you got these beautiful petunias from point "A" to point "B." I'm in the Seattle area so our zone is the same and I'd love to have the success you're having now but am not sure if you used the same method as you did in your previous video that was done later in the spring. We just now have petunias available in the local nurseries that are big enough to propagate and I'm chomping at the bit to do this! Thanks again for your entertaining and informative videos!

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey neighbor. For this experiment I just propagated them indoors under a grow light setup that I have. All the videos I did through this past winter on houseplants are under the same light so you can watch them to get a better idea of what I'm using. It's an 8 bulb fixture that uses t8 fluorescent bulbs that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot. They're not grow lights but they are 6500K to encourage vegetative growth. The video I did later in the spring was done a couple years ago out in my hoophouse that is covered with 50% shade plastic.

    • @natalieaaby7002
      @natalieaaby7002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MikeKincaid79 thanks! I hadn't thought to watch any of your indoor winter plant videos so I will check them out. I'm attempting to propagate (using your petunia method) Calibrachoa cuttings and so far so good! I'll be over the moon if it works! Those are by FAR my favorite annuals but are SO expensive and virtually impossible to even find seeds so I'm hoping this'll work! On another note... My parent's entire backyard is lined with Hydrangeas that my mom propagated throughout the years. Her method is pretty random...I grew up wondering what these "dirt Popsicles" (the failed attempts) all over the greenhouse was but I can now appreciate what she was doing! I think even YOU would be dang impressed (: . I'm looking forward to propagating my own using your tote method...I think it will improve my chances, especially in our bizarre weather. So happy to have found your TH-cam site and look forward to watching what your wife is doing!

I have some that I’ve had for over 20 years because I let them seed out every year but they are not the wave kind. Dude, your "special mix" of fertilizers might be "better" because you have have mixed three ingredients at their normal rates. To be fair, you should have mixed each ingredient at 1/3 the recommended rate (for example). Your "special sauce" is probably better because it's just more fertilizer. Make sense? Fun video, however !!

    I love petunia's.But find it so difficult to get my plants to survive. I keep buying plants and no sooner it withers away . Sometimes I don't know whether to water them or not. Plenty of sunshine here and I am.not sure how to treat my plants. Whether to keep it in a shade away from direct sunlight and whether to water it once a day ( only at.night) and to keep them in a shady place. Please advise as to how I could get these plants to survive in a hot climate like Srilanka.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people think that petunias shouldn't be watered much. My experience has been the exact opposite. I find that they need an incredible amount of water. I water mine almost daily through the hot summer. They also handle a great deal of fertilizer and will grow huge and beautiful if you pump the fertilizer and water to them. Let the look of the plant be your guide.

    Hi Mike, Me again ... lolol You always make such great video's!! Thank you. Please if you can try to advise me... I purchased about 40 bags of organic potting soil on clearance in March and I have been planting petunia plugs like a mad women this past month. I believe I have about 2000 so far. The soil is sopping wet in the plastic bags, between thawing out and being out in the rain. I noticed small bugs in the soil along with tiny ants and I was thinking it might be okay because it's organic soil. I have always used fresh bags of miracle grow potting soil and never saw that before. I think I might have a problem brewing. I see plenty of gnats and I ended up putting the fly strips to catch them. Can I spray my little petunia plants with Hydrogen Peroxide and also water them with Hydrogen Peroxide? Or should I just try to water each and every tray from the bottom with the 4 parts water to 1 part Hydrogen ratio ? I am so afraid of killing these plants and I don't know what to do. I am growing them for neighbors, our local church and town. What would you do
