Thanks so much! I am planning on going for grad school in the Europe but I was super confused as to how do I save up money. I am really glad I found this, my job has a similar payroll and I am working remote so this was really encouraging for me.
This is motivating to start saving more money! I'm planning to go to Japan in May 2020 and move out in around fall of 2020/winter of 2021. Unfortunately I pay rent to my family and have been since I was 18 (almost 500/month from 18 to 21ish, sometimes more). I haven't been able to save hardly any money because most of mine went to help my family out. However, I'm almost done my degree and will be able to work more and my family is doing better financially so I don't have to give them as much as before (been giving them around 200/month since I was 21ish, 23 now). I'm hoping I can save a good chunk so I can go on my trip and have a good emergency savings for when I move out!! I have about 9 months to save for Japan and a little over a year to save for my emergency fund to move out... I have to start paying back my student loans in around June of 2020 which will definitely make it difficult....but I can do this!!!! Would you ever be interested in doing a video on moving out by yourself one day and how to prep and things they don't tell you about it? I don't know if you have any experience yet but it'd be very informative!
You definitely have different challenges to face but you can do it!! And good for you for helping your family like that 💛 and a video on moving out is a good one!
You rule! I wish I saved more when I was in my 20s 😅 Speaking of your grad school stint in London, I really enjoyed watching those videos -- the meal prep, etc. They were, to say the least, therapeutic.
Well done, i've done the same. But in the Netherlands you can go to the best University for about 2000 euro a year, so I did not spend my savings on education. Ended up using the money to buy my first appartement (of course with a mortage as well), but without saving I don't think I would be able to buy at the current market which is crazy for starters. Still have a lot of money now due to work + mortage is so much better/lower than rent.
i love this video! it’s going to help me a lot on budgeting and saving for college. i really want to study in New York and China so i need to start saving now! thank you for the video💜
For young people, the fastest way you can earn more is to switch jobs regularly(around 2 years per job). Learn what you can and switch. You are not going to working forever, and you will become older, so make sure you are getting paid as much you can. For fresh grads, unless you are doing internship/industry attachments as part of your degree, go straight for full-time jobs as most proper roles are for full-timers, might as well get paid for it.
I love me some saving video!!! Haha Pls do some investing video or budgeting video. How do you save money for traveling and still have money to save up for investing or emergency funds? Thanks 💕💕💕
Hi Kchoi!! You are such a good person at planning and make your life prepared for everything beforehand. Saving is such a difficult things for me cuz I can't control myself and always spend money on clothes, eating outside, buying things I don't need etc. But I created a new bank account this year and force myself to put money in it every month. Hope its getting better and I can be as discipline as you one day !! haha ;) Like your videos!
It's great to see young people actually save money at an early age but for those who have car payments, credit card bills, and living expenses it is very difficult to save that much. I work part time and can't afford to save for school because I have all those expenses which I'm trying to pay off.
I am a rising sophomore in college with an on-campus job and this video was really informative!! I have never really thought about rationing out my school earnings to my savings account after each paycheck. It does make more sense because it helps you have a secure foundation, money-wise. I live a pretty frugal life, so I usually tend to just let my earnings sit in my checking account..but now after watching your video, I feel like I gained a more widened perspective when it comes to saving which also means that I have to be more vigilant towards what I spend my money on. Aside from that, I'm definitely looking forward to the budgeting video!
glad i could help in some way!! the next step after developing some good saving habits might be to invest that money so it's not just sitting there, but GROWING! that's my next step, anyway!
Oh my gosh, your hair is super long now! I haven't been that active lately in YT since I came back from London (We met during Joan's m&g at Tate Modern and it was nice having a little chat with you as well!) I hope you're doing great! 💕
I love this video, I’m going to England in sep for my master degree and I could totally relate to your saving habit. I start doing my first tutoring job at 16 and start saving since college , and after two years of working after post grads, I still didn’t have quite enough money and I’m so thankful for my parents for the support.
kchoi I’m going to university of leeds ! The living cost is definitely cheaper than Landon, but this video reminds me to budget for food and transport etc, I didn’t think of that while budgeting , so this helps a lot! 👍
Are we the same person?! I did the exact same thing and I can confirm it 100% works! One more tip for people who are interested: check if your bank has the option to auto-transfer some money into your savings account every time you use your debit card. It can be as little as $0.50-$1.00 per transaction on your debit card but it'll add up!
Wow you are impressive!! I have my first big girl job now and it has almost been a year. Since I don't have too much bills to pay, I give 50% of my paycheck to my mom so she can pay off the mortgage for the house. I save 10% and use about 40% of my paycheck, so kind of glad my mom taught me how to save as well!! :P
You are amazing! I am currently doing my masters but still being paid by parents. I thought about doing a part time job during college but I literally just spent all the spare time studying otherwise I could not get the gap I needed to apply for my masters. I can tell you are such a smart girl, good at managing finance and time. One last question : how could u control your desire to buy things? Cuz I never was able to save money since there are always so many things that I want to buy!
Heyy, great video! I'm a studying currently studying my undergrad in engineering in India. I wanted to know if it's possibo to work part time in London while studying at UCLA to pay for bills and living expenses?
Hi. Love ur videos. Very informative and precise. Can you please make a video showing career progression, in terms of salary and job profile, of an average MiM graduate in consulting industry, over a period of 5/10 years? It is very difficult to find accurate information on internet on what lies ahead of graduating from a MiM program. Thank you.

How will I get into consultancy despite my placements when many people have gone to a better college than me.
Yes please do a video about investing! I think for me, after grads school, my next goal would also be to invest my savings , but I have no idea how investments works 😂
Great one! I also have the habit to save up 70% when having the income, it makes a lot different! And I am thinking about to study in London too, maybe art, maybe business, do you have any suggustion~?
Those are pretty different fields! All depends on what you want to do. I have some videos talking about whether you should go to grad school, so maybe those can help you decide!
Yay! Thank you for this 😍 . . . Follow up question, do you think having your Masters degree internationally affected your overall financial capability by now or was it the ranking of your uni in UK, etc.? Still in the process of finding the right school and/or country to do my Masters. Thanks in advance 😊
Hmmm I don’t think the ranking of my uni made much of a difference in the States because although UCL is top-ranked and very well-known in Europe/UK, it’s not AS well known in the US (outside of academia, maybe). I think for me it was my overall story/journey and going to London for my masters made the most sense to get to where I am now!
Girl, I enjoy watching this video so much. After saving for this long n hard, was it hard for you to decided to use basically all of the savings for the master? I’m exactly at the same stage in my life right now. A bit hesitant...
I wouldn’t say hard, but I was definitely very budget conscious when I was in London because I knew I was basically just eating into my savings 😂 but it was an experience I had been working towards for so long and I was ready! I also got a part time job while I was in London and was making (VERY) small amounts on TH-cam so that helped too.
Hey there! Greetings from Turkey! Love how informative your channel is ! I have few questions for you, I’d be more than glad if you’ve answered them :-) soo, say you were just graduated from college and had the money, would you still consider choosing Masters degree in London that doesn’t require work experience right away? Do you think its better to work 1 year or two on the field of choice than choosing a Masters degree that doesnt require work experience right away? Have 1-2 years of work after school effected your acceptance process to the Masters? Do you think that a masters degree “not requiring work experience gor application” is better aplied quickly? Thank you
It all depends. If I knew right after graduating college that I wanted to go into consulting, then maybe I would have considered doing that program. For my situation, it made sense to work first, then get my degree and switch careers. For others it might be different!
I'm surprised at how people live paycheck to paycheck and don't even consider saving. Saving first is the biggest and most important thing for being financially responsible. I see it as if I'm getting paid £2000 per month, then at least £1000 goes into savings instantly. Like, not even seen, much like tax deduction. But jeez this is difficult in the USA, particularly with 401k and health insurance. All credit to you. I'm saving up to do an MBA (even though I've already done a PhD) cos businesses just don't take me seriously cos I don't have 5 years experience.
I wonder if kchoi was approached by any Americans or Brits while she was living in either of these countries by saying "Oh, you speak English really well." in a sarcastic way. I say this because Asian Americans are still viewed as "foreigners" in the U.S/U.K which is ridiculous because many Asians were born and raised there which make them perfectly Americans or Brits like white people or any other race living there. Honestly, she speaks English better than most Americans and Brits if you ask me. BTW, I am an Asian as well.
One time, in Bristol, I was standing in line talking to my friend and a guy turned around, perplexed, and said “You look Asian, but you sound American.” 🧐
Thanks for the video! It’s very helpful. I’m in grad school now and have been wondering about saving while in school and also saving for retirement. Would you happen to know or have any leads on that, especially the latter? I find that retirement is only discussed once one is employed and has a 401k but being in a masters program now and planning to do a PhD later, I do not want to put off saving for retirement for another 6-7 years...
I actually never thought of that but I’m sure that’s an issue/challenge that so many people face! I don’t know anything specific to help but I’m sure there would be some information out there. Good luck and let me know what you find out!!
@@bykchoi thanks, I have a budgeting question. How do you stick to your budget. I struggle to be consistent and the moment I falling behind I struggle with picking it up again 😭😭
im currently 22 in my first year of grad school and idk how to budget or save at all. either youre super mature or im wayy behind in this adulting stuff lol i only have a checkings account currently in my chase bank, but i am able to make a separate savings account where i can transfer some money from my checkings to my savings? if so, that would be so helpful in keeping spendings in check lol
That’s okay! You can probably create a savings account (I’ve always had both checking and savings from the start so I’m not sure of the exact process). It does help to keep it in a separate account and only accessing it when needed.
Hi, great video! I am planning on going to grad school in England and I was wondering if you got any scholarship or help from the school to pay for tuition? I’m just curious if that is something that they offer to international students!

It all depends. If I knew right after graduating college that I wanted to go into consulting, then maybe I would have considered doing that program. For my situation, it made sense to work first, then get my degree and switch careers. For others it might be different!
kchoi thank you very much for a kind answer 🙏🏻
Hey can you do a video on how you payed for your undergraduate college
This is a great idea
I am 21 and I am getting a job very soon in Singapore and I am from Myanmar. I am gonna save for my grat school in Canada.
You can do it!
I'm saving up to do an MBA (even though I've already done a PhD) cos businesses just don't take me seriously cos I don't have 5 years experience.
so...what are you saving for now? lambo?
🙃
You’re so pretty❤️
Please do share & make a video on investments !!
comeback to see ucl! i just moved here i wanna spot u !
Starting a masters soon in economics in London soon and I'm thinking of documenting mine. Fingers crossed. 🤞🤞
Yes you should definitely document your experience!!! Good luck!
@@bykchoi thanks, I have a budgeting question. How do you stick to your budget. I struggle to be consistent and the moment I falling behind I struggle with picking it up again 😭😭
i struggle with this too! but i've found a good system that helps me stay on top of it. i'm planning to make a video so stay tuned!!
Great video.
Thank you!
im currently 22 in my first year of grad school and idk how to budget or save at all. either youre super mature or im wayy behind in this adulting stuff lol i only have a checkings account currently in my chase bank, but i am able to make a separate savings account where i can transfer some money from my checkings to my savings? if so, that would be so helpful in keeping spendings in check lol
That’s okay! You can probably create a savings account (I’ve always had both checking and savings from the start so I’m not sure of the exact process). It does help to keep it in a separate account and only accessing it when needed.
Congrats
Hi, great video! I am planning on going to grad school in England and I was wondering if you got any scholarship or help from the school to pay for tuition? I’m just curious if that is something that they offer to international students!
There are some scholarships available but I didn’t receive any!
I was wondering how much you earned (and saved) through youtube😉
Who ever will marry you I think he will be luckiest guy in the world . You will absolutely make him millionaire for sure.
Lmao
