I would have to say, I think almost the entire character cast of Hercules is so well designed. The way the gods glow different colours, Hades hair, the different mythological creatures, Megara's everything. Exquisite.
Great ranking! I never thought about my favorite Disney character design. But if I had to pick my favorites this is it. Belle Esmeralda Nala Jane Mirabelle Beast Quasimodo Maleficent Ursula The evil Queen Lady Tramp Hercules
Nice list, and I definitely agree on Esmerelda. I actually think my favorite part of her look is the pink sash she always wears, along with her single hoop earring while her goat has the other one. Her hair ribbon isn’t something most Disney girls have aside hair bows. I also really agree with Dodger’s look, especially with the sunglasses, always gave me Fonzi vibes from Happy Days lol. For some animals I would’ve actually said Kovu, he was actually my first furry crush lol, and I’d also include Timon’s luau look, it’s always been such in my brain. I’d also include Ariel’s sparkling dress, it doesn’t get enough love imo. I’d also add John Smith’s outfit when he isn’t wearing armor in the second half of the movie. His main color palette is silver with blue, which is supposed to present nobility and his identity as a “prince” as the love interest of a prince, but the part he’s imprisoned by Pocahontas’s tribe just makes him so much hotter, specifically with his shirt falling off his shoulder. So yeah, I find his cloth changing as a symbol of his character evolving for the better. I also agree with Malificent definitely, also we can’t forget about Stitch!
Esmerelda should be given all the flowers, all the awards and all the glory as one of the most underrated Disney girlies, right there with Jane Porter, who gives off an energetic bounce in her sleeves which also move gracefully with her artistic talents. Robin Hood does come off scrawny and started the trend of hot foxes without leaning into beastiality. His bone structure is on point.
Same. Imo Esmerelda should be in the lineup as a Disney Princess, along with Kida imo. Both these ladies aren’t afraid to fight for their peoples, like Pocahontas, Mulan and Moana
Anything early Disney don bluth themed or anything around 90s to early 2000s is peak animation of my type of character design. There are also some non Disney favourites I have as well.
It was a really neat choice to make Esmeralda a Romani woman in the film, especially since Quasimodo, while a Romani man himself, doesn't "look" like one.
I mean, to be fair Esmerelda is a French woman in the book lol. I never understood why Quasimodo looks Caucasian when he’s completely of Romani descent in both the book and movie. But despite the questionable portrayal of Esmerelda’s outfit, I still really love her design, my favorite part is probably the pink ribbon in her hair, something most Disney girls don’t normally have aside regular bows. I actually find it ironic Esmerelda actually has five different outfits in the movie
I would have to say Tramp is my favorite character design because I believe his design is so cute and his expressions really make him my favorite design. And it also could be because Im half black but I also think Tiana is so pretty and she has one of my favorite designs too. I also really love Lottie's design
these are some great picks, but for me, nothing will beat Cruella de Vil. That face, that fur coat, that slim figure underneath, it all adds to her boisterous brand of wickedness that elevates every scene she is in. Too bad every scene she's not in is a slog; otherwise i'd watch this movie more often.
10: Oh yes. Not to mention the husky voice of an angel. 9: Yeah, he's got his moments when he's quite the animated character, but he'd be a lot more imposing if his hook were thicker and shorter like Dustin Hoffman's hook was. 8: Is he a buffalo? A wolf? A lion? A bear? No. All of the above and more. 7: Yeah, but they really needed to highlight Robin Hood's swordsmanship a little more in this movie than they did. He wasn't all bow and arrow. 6: His lip fur makes him look like he's got a wise man's mustache. 5: She is femininely creepy, I'll give you that. She has that slight gothic beauty to her features, but you tend to lose sight of it as soon as you see it based on her personality. 4: I've seen this movie too little to actually care. Sorry. He is imposing though, and made for a very tough boss battle in Kingdom Hearts. 3: Yeah, but I wouldn't go as far as to say she was ever the "fairest one of all." I never thought she was beautiful, her constant frown always made her ugly in my eyes. Honestly, her hag appearance looked better than her real appearance to me. 2: She is a pretty dog, no question, but I think the prettiest Disney dog is Perdita. Something about motherhood and the affection that comes with it completes her in my eyes. 1: He kind of resembles that stickly old sadist with a mind to compensate for his lack of strength. Like if the stereotypical bony old witch were in big cat form.
Yes Esmeralda is so beautiful! But I think I would pick Sarabi. Her face is just so unique and the little screen time she has is sad but that’s what makes me love her all the more!
I don’t have anyone else who cares about this information so I’m bringing it here. I finally watched the adventures of ichabod and Mr. Toad. Mr. Toad was such a cute, relatable story with cute woodland creatures and wonderful narration. What the hell was Ichabods story?? What was that ending? Excuse me
Sisu’s design is good; you guys are just mean. At the very least she doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same category as Ugly Duckling, and that’s largely because of how much computer animation has evolved in the last 20 years

Great choice, the character designs in Hercules are so unique!
Auroras design is my favorite. Her look is so intricate and her face is a good balance of sharpness and softness.
I love Aurora’s design, especially her hair
Objectively the best princess design. Marc Davis’s original character sketches are something magic. Her hair seems to bounce off the page.
Great ranking! I never thought about my favorite Disney character design. But if I had to pick my favorites this is it.
Belle
Esmeralda
Nala
Jane
Mirabelle
Beast
Quasimodo
Maleficent
Ursula
The evil Queen

Awesome list thanks for watching and sharing!!

Lady YES!!! I love that lil Cocker Spaniel!!!!!!!!

Excellent list, especially Chernabog, just sorry Aladdin didn't make it on!
He was on my list of considerations, he’s great!
Ursula

Cruella’s design is so amazing. Love how she almost looks skeletal beneath her heavy fur coat.

I have heard a lot of people say that the Beast’s human form is ugly and that he should have stayed the beast.
Yes Esmeralda is so beautiful! But I think I would pick Sarabi. Her face is just so unique and the little screen time she has is sad but that’s what makes me love her all the more!
Sarabi is such a cool pick!
