In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
You describe how to use this far better than the low range company does. Thank you. I was considering to send the unit back.
I bought this because it was simple to operate. You just showed me a 100 different functions . Christ sake can,t someone make an on and off graph!! This is great for all those people walking into poles looking at their phones. GRIZ

Just got one of these for my birthday! This video is very helpful. Finally replaced my old Lowrance x85
Excellent video! I had to deinstall my panel installed unit to install a shroud. I caused the cable to loosen and caused the unit to reset after I reseated it properly. Well I lost all my settings and always found the UI on the unit very hard to use. After watching your video I got back all my original settings back and made some more changes. Going to set some alarms next. Thanks again!

I just purchased a new one in 2024, with very little paper work and no operating instructions. This video sure helped me out, first fish finder and not good with electronics.

The Lowrance 2 4x comes in two models, with GPS and without correct?
And if you don't mind me asking, what was the cost for the unit with GPS.

GREAT VIDEO ! I've got this unit and this your lesson was so useful. I do have one question about the transducer and if mounting it on the trolling motor will cause interference. I recently changed my rear mounted trolling motor to a front mount and found that it's much easier to operate but, now my Lowrance is not giving anything but a fuzzy picture. I will add that earlier this summer I flipped my small boat and the unit was submerged for a few seconds ...so. Thanks again.
First question is does it give a fuzzy image when the trolling motor is powered off? Also the power for the display is not running off the trolling motor batter correct?
@@nightanddaymarine8823 I have them both hooked up to one battery. to your first ? It didn't when I first started using it. I remember having it on "fish" display(not the sonar ) while trolling. I did not change the direction of the transducer when I changed my trolling motor from back to front. Could that be my issue? The flat side of the transducer should be facing what direction? Thanks for your patience.
@@DrHogfan I was just wondering if it was trolling motor interference or not. If it is, it will scramble your screen when you turn the trolling motor on
@@DrHogfan and the little flat part should face backwards and the pointed end with the mount should face forward
Mine lasted less than one season before the screen went to crap. I didn't do anything to it. I installed LEDs above it but that might affect it when we are moving, not standing still. Today I raised the transducer, but again that should only affect it while moving. Very aggravating that in less than one season the screen went to crap. It reads temp and speed ok. Depth is hit and miss.
What about the bottom left "fish" button ? When i first got hook 2 I could push that button and it would show "fish" in B&W instead of color sonar. Now I push the fish button and nothing happens. I think I'll try restoring to factory defaults.
What is the number in the bottom left corner all about ? And thanks for the very informative video, I just purchased one and had trouble with the simulator. I have no idea what the number in the bottom left corner is about.
@@Alvin-m1z-q1v for the Hook2 4x it's typically the bottom depth or whatever depth you have it set to manually.

Great video. Quick question, I have this unit mounted on the transom of a 18 foot regal. It works great sitting still or going less than roughly 10mph. Any faster and the depth readings are intermittent and eventually won’t read at all. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Chances are your transducer is getting hit by cavitation. You will need to readjust the transducer by wither raising or lowering it or even moving it to a different location.

hi great video but i cant find anybody telling how to do the keel offset or transducer offset? could you do a video on how to measure the transducer to bottom of lake/water or keel with my tiny basshound the transducer is hardly 2/4 inches below the water line cant i set the hook 2x4 in inches? thanks
Well I didn't think this particular unit had the keel offset option on it but no I don't believe I ever included that in any of my videos I have on TH-cam. Its a little complicated explaining it via message like this.
Cannot get this hook2 plus 4 with GPS to work in fresh water properly , can you give me some ideas why, cheers, Dave
If you set up your finder at home will it still be on there when you get to the lake and turn it back on or do you have to reset everything?
Everything you set up at home will save and still be there when u get on the water.

How do you use the gps plotter
Excellent n thorough video! I’m looking for my 1st fish finder for my kayak. Nothing fancy…just something basic n this looks like a great model. Any problems or issues with the Lowrance? ….🤔
It's a decent graph. Bare bones, nothing fancy by any means.
Altho, if it were me, I spend a little extra and get the Hook 5x reveal splitshot. I think its maybe a $100 more but it's a significantly better display! Well worth the extra money!
i just gott he hook 2 4x, and turned it on....everything worlked well... and ran wires for the kayak, got it all set up and now it's displaying a black and white screen??? didnt change anything that I am aware of... how can I fix that

Is there anyway you can make the NAME of your Waypoints BIGGER on the chart?
On this one you cannot unfortunately. Only the higher end displays have an option to increase the size of objects on the screen.
Is the Hook2 4X capable of zooming in on a range of water depths? Can it zoom in at all? If so, does it just zoom in on the bottom? Is there a 2-times, or 4-times zoom? Can you adjust it? THANKS
When you zoom in or out with the plus and minus buttons, you can then use the arrow buttons to scroll up and down on the screen to view different areas of the water column.

Yes it can be. There is actually an ice fishing kit for it or you can use the ice transducer part# 000-14088-001
I have a question when you turn on the screen and you get your color line going across it’s seems like it’s too narrow it’s only like maybe an eighth sick line for like the surface is there anyway to adjust that ??? Thank you
If your talking about the bottom, no there really isn't aside from maybe increasing your sensitivity. If it's the top then you can increase you surface clarity or reduce the sensitive.
My sonar look doesn’t look like this, it doesn’t seem right. First time owing a fish finder.

What does the number at the bottom left corner of the screen represent?
That is typically the depth at the lowest point on your screen
I wished I could show you what my screen looks like bunch of numbers on top bunch on bottom and they are overlapping while it scrolls
That can mean 2 different things. Either the transducer has gone out or the display itself has crashed... unfortunately it costs about the same to just replace the display when that happens.

I have this same model and the screens look the same as mine as well....my issue is that there is no alarm sound at all, only a pop up on the screen. If you reference the users manual it says you need to enable the "siren" and shows a dialog for doing that in the Alarms settings. There is no such setting / dialogue on my unit, and it seems yours also does not have that dialogue. Does your unit have a "siren" sound?
I don't believe mine did. Unfortunately I no longer have this display so I am unable to check for it. However, I do know there were a few differences in the menu between the hook2 4x and the hook2 4x GPS but the manual is the same for both so its possible only the GPS version has that menu option.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks. I submitted a support request to Lowrance...I'll see what they have to say about it. The alarms don't need GPS so it would be illogical not to include it.
@@YMS137 ok. Well good luck with that. Hopefully they arnt still backed up on emails like they used to be. It used to take close to a month to hear back from their email support. Sometimes longer... Fingers crossed its not like that anymore. Let me know if you find out the answer from them.
My unit never shows fish (arches) and does not show stuff half as clear as shown In the simulator
That is not very surprising to be honest. The simulator was a sonar recording done during prime conditions and most likely took them several tried to get a reading that clear. If you are in colder or deeper water or maybe fairly murky water the image won't be as nice. However you should still be able to pick up some arches.
How do I get it work like it's on simulator but it's working
when I zoom in the depth why do all the fish arches disappear the screen goes blank until i put the depth back to zero
When you zoom im, you might just be zooming into the wrong area. Try scrolling up or down after you zoom in

This model cannot unfortunately.

Mine when I turn on is coming up with “ trail” then under it it says points= limit
Any idea why that is coming up and how to get rid of it
It means the trail is maxed out and you need to delete it and create a new one
It means the points on your trail are maxed out and the trail can't record anymore so you will need to delete it and create a new one.
Mine seems to be working a split screen for some reason?
Um... if pressing the pages button doesn't work, check your menu and see if there is a split screen option turned on. Beyond that try a soft reset on it.
Does this unit do speed readings
It depends. The Hook2 4x GPS does
Has anyone had problems with it not turning on because you got power cord wet?
Hooked mine up today and all I got was purple and green and black lines on my sonar so I’m taking it back to get a new one
If all you get is lines like that and your in the water and your certain the transducer is mounted properly then there is definitely an issue with it.

I took it out today on my kayak and I don’t understand why the ft keeps bouncing up and down fast. Is that normal?
Not really unless your in a lot of waves and the kayak is tipping back and forth. Where is the transducer mounted?
@@nightanddaymarine8823 I didn’t mount it. I tied loosely inside my kayak. Where do you think I should mount to get the best scan?
@@chhempan9421 it depends. You can't really tie it loosely. Best thing to probably do is to epoxy it down on to the bottom inside part of your kayak.

We have same Lowrance but mine is 2018 , Its wierd when start it up , the fish shows up even though im not in the water .. Can you help me man fixing this ..
You probably have the simulator turned on.

It depends if it's a GPS version or not. If it is, then it's in the overlay data as SOG. But if it's not a GPS version then it doesn't have it.
The fish only show up in the fish ID mode

The fish symbols only show up in fish ID mode if that's what you mean. You should see the arches when not in ID mode.
Would you recommend, or what is recommend for battery usage. Other words, should I use a separate battery to run this or can I run it with all the other things I'm running on Jon boat. IF you recommend separate, what size battery will work? I've seen other videos where there using really small batteries.
Please help with some advice.

It depends on what kind of motor your using. If it's a trolling motor then you need a seperate battery. But you can also use a 12V 7 or 8 amp lead acid battery to operate it. They sell them at Walmart for about $20. It'll run that display for about 12 hours before needing to be recharged.
I actually connected 2 of them in series and gorilla taped them together and it will run even my larger displays all day.

how can you tell if a hook2 4x has a GPS?
It will say GPS on the front of your display if it does. And when you press your Pages button and cycle thru screens, it will pull up a blank GPS screen with a black arrow in the middle.

You forgot to show how to change the colorline, ping, and noise level.. which you just click enter from the main screen instead of enter and it brings you into them
