In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
The Navionics can definitely cause the mapping screen to lag and you might get white areas on the map as it's trying to load while you are traveling down the lake or river. In this case it helps to zoom out just a little bit. This will usually allow thw mapping to catch up and stop the lagging. The processor in these just isn't fast enough to load the maps when zoomed pretty far in and traveling at higher speeds.

Literally just purchased one of these and found you. And found out your in north tulsa!? I'm off 71st and memorial! Small world! Great stuff! Helpful! I will have to watch the videos and steal your spots lol
It's probably the best video I've ever seen on how to work a fish finder. Most of the things you explained were things thatother videos skip and just assume you already know, which is never the case for me. So thank you. The only thing i still cant find a good video on is how to tell what you are seeing on the screen. And most importantly of all, where the stuff on the screen is in relation to your boat. For example, if I see fish on the screen... how would you know where to cast your line to cast to the fish you are seeing? Im not sure if anymone knows for sure? As i have never seen an explanation to this question yet.
Honestly that's just a really difficult question to answer. Some of it revolves around how fast u are traveling. The other is the fact that it's taking a 3 dimensional area and compressing it into a 2D image. The cone your transducer is picking up is compressed into a flat screen. So technically depending on your depth, the fish can be a certain amount of feet to the right or left of you. Which is really were the side scan comes into play to help determine which side of the boat they are on. It's hard to teach on a video. It's mostly something u can only learn thru trial and error.

Dad bought a Hook Reveal 7 SS with Inland Waterway. Wish he had spent the $100 to get C-Map Contour+ that ships with a card. Maybe that's a good thing as I now have option for C-Map or Navionics. The info is out there but it varies depending on multiple factors. Fresh water vs salt water, water temp, the output power of the fishfinder. On this one with 83 khz in warm fresh water like a typical lake, you'll get probably 700 ft or so. Maybe 800. 200 khz u can get around 400 ish.
Great video. I just purchased mine but my Demo/ simulation doesn't work. Just shows what looks like spots on top and no bottom structure, confusing Any idea why? Hook 5 revel split shot
So neither the Demo or Simulatuon mode showed anything on the sonar screen? Did you activate the demo file for the sonar? You should have to tell it in the simulation menu to select the sonar.sl2 file for it to show the demo file on the sonar screen.
I show this in the video at 17:00. If that does not work, make sure demo mode is turned off before you so anything else. Then select the sonar file and then turn on simulator. Also make sure your Stop Sonar is not activated. If still nothing, make sure you are zoomed all the way out. You can also try updating the software or performing a soft or hard reset on the display.
Unfortunately no. Not as far as overall levels of water. Only thing you can do is turn on your genesis Live and get live mapping on the screen as using your sonar, but it won't show the correct depth of water anywhere that you havnt passed over yet.
I have this fishfinder, it works great until you smash the throttle. Small dots is appearing on the screen When the propeller runs ”fast”. Is the sonar to close to the motor? Idk, please help me. I am from Sweden so my English may not be correct but i hope yall Will understand.

I hear this is a lot easier to use than the Humminbird, but I'm wondering if the Lowrance has less manually changeable options than the Humminbird, and if that is any hindrance to setting it up how you want? Thanks much for the good tutorial.
Yes it quite a bit easier to use than the humminbird counterpart. And ya I still think it's a good graph. Runs smooth, I havnt personally had any issues. If you are using it on lakes, it's for the most part already set up when you pull it out of the box. There are really only some minor adjustments that I'd recommend for it.

@@nightanddaymarine8823 thank you for the reply. Yes, it has an X. But I can do the genesis live and it will plot it out as I motor around? Thank you for the help
@@cj7913 yes that is correct. If you insert a 32 gb sd card or smaller into the display, you can create your own mapping on the screen by using the sonar. Its the Genesis Live overlay feature on the chart page.
ok - newbie here - we turned on the system and I cannot get to settings - do you have a video that shows the first time set up? We have this system hook 7.
If DownScan is veing used with 455khz frequency, how about the fish that are brought in the picture by Fish Reveal function? @@nightanddaymarine8823 okay thank you. I'll give it a try and watch the video again. Thank you for your help
Thank you so much! Your video fixed a few problems I had going on today👍🏼
Is there a way to change water level when lake levels change?
Unfortunately no. Not as far as overall levels of water. Only thing you can do is turn on your genesis Live and get live mapping on the screen as using your sonar, but it won't show the correct depth of water anywhere that you havnt passed over yet.
I have this fishfinder, it works great until you smash the throttle. Small dots is appearing on the screen When the propeller runs ”fast”. Is the sonar to close to the motor? Idk, please help me. I am from Sweden so my English may not be correct but i hope yall Will understand.
It might be too close. Or you can try to increase the noise rejection. That should also help clear up as well.
Night and Day Marine okay! Thank you 🙏🏼
Night and Day Marine Do you increase the noise rejection in the settings? Btw the sonar is 25-30 cm/ 9,8-11,8 inches away from the motor.
@@norrland4life875 when you are on your Sonar screen, arrow down to the "Advanced" menu and then you will see Noise Rejection about half way down the list.
Good job. I'm thinking of getting this, and I'm curious if after a couple years are you still satisfied? I hear this is a lot easier to use than the Humminbird, but I'm wondering if the Lowrance has less manually changeable options than the Humminbird, and if that is any hindrance to setting it up how you want? Thanks much for the good tutorial.
Yes it quite a bit easier to use than the humminbird counterpart. And ya I still think it's a good graph. Runs smooth, I havnt personally had any issues. If you are using it on lakes, it's for the most part already set up when you pull it out of the box. There are really only some minor adjustments that I'd recommend for it.
If the orange bar appears on the button "Stop sonar", does that mean that the sonar is stopped or activated?
An Orange bar means that the stop sonar function is activated and your sonar is currently stopped.
Nice video I got some unit, but have any one have any problem? Mind just shut off by itself after running like hour or so don’t know why ?
It would either be caused by low power or overheating. You can turn your voltage overlay on so that u can see the voltage on the screen.
Hey just bought the Hook 9 and am getting ready to use it but I want to understand ... from the direction my boat is facing which way is the reveal scanning? towards the back? front? when the fish show up on the scrolling screen how do I know what direction they are in?
Best video ever for full comprehension !!
Thank you sir !!
nice video, great info for my beginners knowledge, great job. video suggestion, more sonar info please
I also have a full sonar video as well.
Definitely good information, just got the Hook 9 ,this helps a lot, Thank you.
Do u use genesis c map with yours. Trying to get the maps to work on my hook reveal 7.
@@PikeyAz can't get it to work on my hook reveal 5ss
jesseaz10 try to go to settings,go to chart , pick C map , sometimes on theses units they loses the settings, on the side image your right is on the left , so you do have to go back in and set the options, hope that helps .
How come my contour lines don't come up. I have same fish finder with cmaps?
Great video--really nice overview. Thanks
If I travel out of America with the GPS only unit would it stuff function properly? Like it's not locked to where I bought the unit?
No it will work exactly the same as in the US. It's not geofenced like that.
Help! Does your Hook Reveal control buttons on the right illuminate at night? Mine does not and I need a flash light see the buttons. It’s never lite for me having a brand new unit. Very frustrating
Hello, awesome videos. Just purchased the Reavel 7 TS so incredibly useful. Do you have further information on setting up a battery pack power supply for the unit please?
My hook reveal map screen is white I bought a cmap for it and still is white any recommendations
Um dumb question here but how do you turn it on lol. I got it hooked to the battery and held the button numerous times
PIPELAYER 818 make sure you plug the power cord ALL THE WAY into the unit. I did same thing you’re doing and finally realized it wasn’t all the way
@@rfnrdy9830 turned out to be the brand new wire I got to run to the battery. Had a break in it some where
Wow your video is extremely helpful! I do need so help with my GPS portion of my Hook Reveal. My screen only shows a blank white screen and an arrow. Is this a setup issue that I just need to toggle something on? Everything else works perfectly except for the mapping... please help! Thank you!
Is your display an X model? Like does it say 7x on it? If so then it won't show an actual map.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 thank you! Just got out on the water and it all is working as it should after your instructions. Thank you!
Does this have a hazard alert? I mean, if the boat is heading towards a hazard (shallow or rock), does the chartplotter alert?
ok - newbie here - we turned on the system and I cannot get to settings - do you have a video that shows the first time set up? We have this system hook 7.
If DownScan is veing used with 455khz frequency, how about the fish that are brought in the picture by Fish Reveal function? Are they brought up by using High Chirp or the same 455khz frequency as downscan? From downscan settings it's not possible to adjust fish reveal frequency settings, only sensitivity.
No the fish reveal image is just overlayed onto of the downscan. It is still using the high chirp traditional sonar frequencies.
when using this do i need an internet, or GPS will work ,,, thanks
Great video 🤟🏿
What frequency would you run it in fishing 50m salt water bottom fishing?
Optimal frequency would be 50khz or low chirp. Tho if u don't have that type of transducer then I would go with 83khz or medium.
Thanks
Good video 😊
I just bought the same unit as what you are showing in this video. I can’t figure out why mine isn’t showing a map like what yours is showing. How do I make it show. Mine is just a white screen.
Make sure that yours is not a 7x. The 7x does not have built in mapping
@@nightanddaymarine8823 i have the 7xTS. So it doesn't have built in mapping?
@@ryanlinder1973 right. It will let you create custom mapping with the genesis live feature if you insert a sd card of 32gb or less. And it uses the sonar as you move around to create it.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 thank you very much for your help.
Great video , but can you tell me how to change the tide station . Mine is set on one that's 125 miles away . I can't figure out how to change it . Thanks
Awesome vid thanks! Mines on my way. But one question is, think I’d need a separate battery for this unit? My old unit is connected to my duel batteries for 24 volt trolling motor. Or would it be safe to run on my starting battery which is a deul purpose
You definitely do not want to connect it to a 24v system. That will surely brun out the display. As long as it's only connected to a 12v system that doesn't have too many electronics connected to it, then it should be fine.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 ya I definitely said that wrong. It’s only hooked up to one of the batteries on the 24 volt system! It someone told me before that I should have a separate battery for electronics. Just not sure if I really need 4 batteries on my boat
@@ksemi02 As longer you as dont get any electrical interference you should be fine. I wouldn't get a 4th battery just yet. I'd try your starter battery first.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks for the info:)
@@ksemi02 but if you start getting vertical or horizontal lines on your sonar screen or your display sometimes shut off on its own or powers down when you start your engine, then you will definitely need to get it's own battery.
I have the same fish finder and I can’t get the gps working. I only have a white screen and not show any chart or shapes of the river etc. how I program that?
Does your hook Reveal have an X after the number? Like 5x or 7x or something like that? If so then it does not have mapping built into it.
Do you have a video on the basic Hook2 4x no gps?
