Thanks for the informative vid, it's saved me a lot of time. It's well explained and what I had thought was a bit complex now seems actually quite simple and logical. I'll be Trying this today on my elite Ti and best of all I haven't had to read the manual :) (for this part anyway)
I could have sworn that I saw a no fishing sign next to that old roadbed. Sneaky fish! Nice video. Thank you for sharing experience and expertise with us!
Thanks for posting this video! I recently purchased an underwater ROV (Fifish v6 Expert) and am looking at adding a unit with side scan sonar to help find points of interest to investigate with my robot. From what I see, this unit would have no trouble identifying small boats and cars but can you make out smaller things like the size of a cinder block? Any insight would be great! Thanks.
I lost a mast at 18meters depth at sea. I know approximate GPS position but the water is not clear. Do you think I could easily find it (its aluminum > 10m long) Thanks.
you don't deduct the water depth, but it helps to account for it. So if the water is 20' deep and side image shows a rock 50' away, the rock is probably only 45' away because the distance shown on side image is a direct line from the transducer to the object. So you have to think of it like a triangle with the distance being the hypotenuse. For most people, it won't make a difference if you're casting 45' or 50' as most people can't be that accurate judging distance in a moving boat on open water, but it's probably helpful to be mindful of it as you learn how to be more precise.
8:49 stumps. Good video but you are wrong. 2ft high stump directly under the boat will have shorter shadow than 2ft high stump 60 ft away from the boat. Angles.
First time owning a Lowrance HDS Live 12 sounds like you use Navionics insted of the pre installed C-Map. would you suggest that i do the same. Just want to have better detail right off the bat. thank you.
Nathan do you have a problem with your FG knot slipping with the small guides on the Cashion rods? I can’t figure it out , since I got the chatter bait rod from Cashion I lost a bunch of baits by the knot just slipping?? Thanks
Lowrance has 800kHz on many models which is close to "mega" (1200kHz or 1,2MHz). So the image for that should be pretty close. But Hummingbird sure can have a slight advantage. However I rarely use 800kHz on my Lowrance, because I fish a lot on depths of 10m (30ft) and more, so the 455kHz just gives me better picture and range there. If going to under 5m water the 800kHz is good tho.
@@nathanquincefishing7122 thanks. I understand you choose not to remove this column in your images. But, Are you able to advise the path / route / steps to remove this column in the sounder? Thanks Cameron
These videos are great, but, not all of us can afford a 2k+ graph either. I would love to see these same videos with a helix 7 g3 or g3n. I can guarantee you the quality is not nearly as good. That's the only thing that's frustrating about these videos in my opinion.
side image is primarily for finding structure. Hard to see fish unless they are quite big, or you have the range dialed right down, or they are in big schools.
I was thinking the video was about finding fish but i found that all the talking was about an old construction site. Are you a constructor or a fisherman?
@jasonrekker4328 maybe it is but nobody mention the fish when talking about sonars. They like only to push buttons and have a cool device but forget for what was built.
What exactly was the "secret" ? This is just basic knowledge of side imaging. I bet the pros are shaking in their shoes lol... great video and informative but clickbait title!
Unfortunately, people won't click the video unless it's sort of "click baity." The title and thumbnail were all relevant to the video. He just spiced up the title a little bit to grab some attention. Idk, maybe I'm defending him because I make videos too (mostly shorts).
Y wouldn't the pros want people to know that sucks I thought the fishing community was supposed to be humble and wanted people to learn about the sport.
So you really can't see fish on yours either. I have the old Helix 9s and they suck. I wasted most of the day with those things, 360 isn't any better. Sure you can see the bottom but not the fish. They should be brighter dots with shadows but we didn't see any. I can find structure but that isn't good enough. The guys that are doing very well graph along the river bank where fish shouldn't be but they can actually see the fish and they haven't been pounded. I'm 60 years old and shouldn't have be starting over but that's what happens when the FLW and BASS aholes show up, then the resorts and yankees follow.
Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. I just got side scan and this gives me a basic understanding of how to approach it.
Good luck!
Great and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have always had a difficult time understanding.

Great job, thanks. Now if I could get u to come out and teach me in person
I’ve played around with the idea of guiding
How do you have your microphone set up? Or what microphone do you use? Your audio sounds so good all the time.
Best video ever!! Thanks so much! I subscribed and looking forward to seeing alot more of your content. God bless

This video is incredible and very informative. Tons of info. I’m wanting to install a ff on my kayak and this will help me on how to view it.
Good luck!
@@nathanquincefishing7122what fishfinder brand and model did you use during the video?
Those were fish in the black in the brush piles at 10:30 huh? Specks in water w shadows out to left or right
Thanks for your valuable time and information 👍
Thanks!

with your transducer facing towards the front of the boat how far ahead do you think you can see in front of the boat ??
Great stuff like see more on lowrance
Thank you for sharing this
Really helpful
Do you deduct the water depth from your target distance for accuracy??
Not usually
you don't deduct the water depth, but it helps to account for it. Which lake are you on? Just curious
Excellent video. What speed were you traveling and what did you have your chart speed set at?
No chart speed on lowrance but I was going 3-4 mph
thankyou nathan
Just wanted to know my depth and speed and for that it’s great!
Depth was 10-15 and speed was 3-4 mph
Awesome video.. electronics are soooo frustrating lol

You do get better detail with navionics
I fish out of ponce inlet just south of Daytona. What kind of depths will side scan work efficiently?
I’ve never used it deeper than like 30ish but the transducers and technology is different in marine environments
Nathan do you have a problem with your FG knot slipping with the small guides on the Cashion rods? I can’t figure it out , since I got the chatter bait rod from Cashion I lost a bunch of baits by the knot just slipping?? Thanks
I run an Alberto knot and also run straight flouro for chatterbaits
I know you're using 80' left & right but what's your distance front to back?
I’m not sure what that is cause it’s not a setting
So do u not ever use the mega for side imaging?
I don’t have a Humminbird
Lowrance has 800kHz on many models which is close to "mega" (1200kHz or 1,2MHz). So the image for that should be pretty close. But Hummingbird sure can have a slight advantage. How did you zoom?
You can hit the plus or minus on the graph to zoom in and out
Thank you!
How to remove the central water column image ?
I usually don’t take it off

10 foot
Lorance or Garmin
where can I find a "legend" that tells me what all those dots, marks, etc on my Navionics are?
Maybe on their website?
I tried the website, to no avail, unless I missed something

The transducer will be the same on that graph vs a 12 inch so the quality will be the same screen size is your only difference!
@@nathanquincefishing7122 Then why is the transducer 3" on the 7si and 7"-8" on a larger one that has si+?
Okay now I know what a house looks like under water but how does fish look? :P
This video was for people who were looking for a submerged house.
😄

Would be nice to tell us water depth and marking waypoints.
Water depth is right there on the screen. The black area is the depth from the transducer to the bottom
@@raytubach8988 sorry, don’t see it. Only the water temp in upper left corner and range settings along the bottom. Good video, though.

too much intro talking!! get to the point!
You spend so much time screwing with your fish finder, you don't spend much time presenting a bait to a hungry frsh.
a lot of pro's will spend hours and days just idling around lakes graphing and learning the habitat

What did you use to mount transducer to bottom of boat ? 5200 ?
My boat dealer did it so I’m not positive
