I remember my buddy telling me that whenever his dad would go buy an engine for his jet boat or whatever, if the engine didn't have a starter, he would bring a starter and a battery to do a compression test. Doesn't sound so crazy anymore.
I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and I grew up here. This town used to be rich. It was Rich, and industrial, and Christian. Then they crushed the domestic oil market and told everybody that we ran out of oil which is a total load of crap. And now Tulsa is a shot-out hull of its former city, and its main industries are casinos and weed dispensaries. Getty oil was a big employer. As were literally dozens of oklahoma-based oil companies.
How very sad. As a young teen ager I lived there in the early 70's. And yes it was a very cool place to be and party and enjoy young person thing's. It was a very nice city. Too bad that happend to it. And then we had a great president that was not able to get re-elected,, a men who wants to bring all of that back to America.

Mortske! Under the squirters there is check valve that gets stuck. Take the squirter off, with a pick move the valve around till they free up. Put the squirters back on! Away you go! Nice build!
I know nothing about blowers (other than the concept), but I doubt anything will fail until you start cramming gobs of air and fuel at high rpm -- and I wouldn't want to be standing nearby when it lets go! Mortske Minute is the highlight of each video - history is a lot cooler now than it was 50 years ago in school!
HEY! Good morning and thumbs UP to you and Duff! I will be back to watch this later. The Eclipse is total in my area so I am going out to get ready for that! Have a great day everybody!
Superchargers dont always make boost at idle so seeing vacuum at idle isnt unheard of, especially on a stock engine/cam. Ive seen a few people comment that the bottom end wont last long on boost, but uts all in the tuning and how often you rev the guts out of it. I ran a stock bottom end(cast piston TBI engine) small block for a couple of years on 10psi of boost with no issue. Daily driven, but not daily beaten.
That is a good pick to go in any chassis that you decide to put it in , with the proper gears it will do a good turn at the strip . You should be able to do a twelve to fifteen on a good day ?? . Thanks for having us along , take care , Give Duff Dog the shop dog of the month award , God Bless you and yours , Stuart in Ontario ..
Great Monday morning, you really know your carbs are working well when the flames are rolling out of the valve cover openings. It probably needed that fuel to break down some of the sludge in the crank case any way, bonus!!!!!
@@MortskeRepair That stock long block will probably last long enough to drink some large amounts of fuel and have fun making noise and cruising around. If you decide to really rip on her it will probably be like pulling the pin on a grenade, should be interesting to see what lets go first, only time will tell, have fun with it !!!!!!
I have been working the gas station service industry in Illinois for 17 years now. Petroleum jelly is most common manufacturer recommended gasket lubricant that I have seen other than marine grease for wet/submerged areas. And the All seal Gasket Maker that I have seen you use before is something that I carry myself for those "hard to seal jobs". You absolutely need the mating surfaces to stay dry and out of fuel/oil for 24 hours dry time for a solid job, its a fantastic product if give the proper cleaning and set time. I love the channel, keep on pumping out the awesome to watch content.

The only time it had issues was in the middle of summer in Georgia & I was in line at a drive-thru. Maybe one time in Atlanta rush hour traffic but I try to stay out of Atlanta. lol
AS a rule of thumb, Holleys don't like much more than 6.5 psi. If and when the fuel pressure is higher than that, there's a tendency for fuel to blow past the needle and seat. I've found that if you adjust the fuel pressure regulator so the carb(s) see 6 - 6.5 all is better. Hope this helps
My favorite day of the week, Mort and Duff Monday. I really enjoyed the tech tip of the day about Holly. No I didn’t know They built cars either very interesting. Enjoyed the blower being put on the 350 sounded really good. Learned a lot today. Watching you setting that up, I’ve never messed around with a blower in my life so great video. Have a great week.
Church key magnet on dash great tip. Fun fact is My Dad always owned early 50s Fords when I was growing up. His reason was where steering column met dash the the U-bolt was channeled and he could drive down road use this channel to take caps off of bottles. Grain Belt beer was bottled in St. Paul and New Ulm is home of Schells.
Got to LOVE the couch mechanics that have never worked on a motor . ( and want to call them engines) Story time- I was 18 years old had a 69 Ford Fairlane in 1980 with a 302. My fuel pump goes out in the middle of nowhere late at night before cell phones. I unhooked the lineto the fuel pump ran it to my windshield washer pump then ran a rubber hose to the carb. I'd push the button fill up the carb. Then drive till it sputterd the fill it up again. I made it home then to the parts store the next day. Thanks uncle John for telling me what to do when my fuel pump goes out how many couch mechanics can say they did that

When I helped on the Pit Crew of a Limited Super Stock Race Car in the 70s we ran Holey Carbs. Our Engine guy said they were simple and easy to work on and it is a good thing because you were always working on them. I also worked in parts at an IH Dealership and those Pickups and Trucks also ran Hollys. Power Valves could be problematic on some of them also.
Find out what size of jets are in the carbs - you don't need bigger ones with two on a blower. If you want to get half-way decent fuel mileage stick smaller jets in it. There is a way to have it run on one carb and get the other to kick in when you put your foot in it. I remember that article in a car magazine long ago. That's the good thing about Holley's - they're easy to play around with to fine tune things to your liking. It's a good idea to always have an extra set of float parts.
A long time ago, we used to weld a tube into the exhaust collector and into the valve covers then run hose to create negative crankcase pressure and get rid of some of the blow by contaminates.

My best guess on blower surge would be power valves. You've got essentially 2 engines to tune there. The actual engine and what's taking place on top of the screws. I bet a pair of quadrajets would work great for what you have. Small primaries and progressive secondary. You'd have to redo your linkage though.
A long time ago my brother picked up a weekend toy, '66 Corvair monza spyder that was mid engine (401 Buick, manual reverse pattern Torqueflite) that had a 6/71 and twin Carter AFB's. I believe it was set up with a slight underdrive pulley set and it was very streetable using pump premium gas. The weak link in the driveline was the Corvair ring & pinion in the gutted manual transaxle once he figured out a way to put fat sticky tires on the back.
