I would definitely not file that piston there's probably a hairline crack in it from when it dropped and broke the chunk off that could disintegrate in the engine and destroy everything

I'd put that in my daily. I had a 350 in a 79 1/2 ton 2wd that we put together with a skirt missing on a piston and put close to 200,000 miles it. We had plenty of issues along the way..the piston skirt wasn't one of them though..ya never know🤷

Even run well with a piece of the piston MIA.

When I was 14 a buddy and I made one motor out of three (Chevy 350) and we had no clue what we were doing. We didn't buy anything new for it used what we had. He put in his pickup and drove the heck out of it. I moved away about five years later and that thing was still running. We used a Chilton manual and a crap load of silicone. I love it when you do these videos because this is what happens every day in small town America!👍

Remembering my grandfather, served in the pacific as an engineer. He made a fresh water pool for the men by damming a stream on an island, the officers banned all the enlisted from using it after they found it. He bulldozed it once they did that, if the men couldn't use it on one would... hell of a guy, taught me how to fish.

Absolutely... People need to remember that it's not just a holiday so they can have the day off from work.
So many young men, and some women died and a lot of them were only 18 years old and had just graduated from High School.
That's something that is really hard to comprehend...

Yeah, there kinda was a 2 barrel Vette. 1984 CrossFire injection had two single barrel throttle bodies. I have one, and they only made 205 HP and 290 TQ. Still not a bad car, handles excellently, fun to drive. The CrossFire is easy to fix, if you know what you're doing. And you can port the stupid tiny-port aluminum intake and gain 20 HP or so. I've ported my intake, it helped a bit, but I probably need to remove more aluminum, just scared of holing the damn thing. I also upgraded to the 1986 fuel pump for more pressure, and need to install the adjustable fuel pressure regulator I bought one day....LOL! Take care, Mortske! Oh, and thanks for sending out the can coozie, matches, banner, and signed flyer I ordered. Good stuff, man. I'll be back for more schtuff!

Nice to see you guys diving into saving some engines, working with what you have hanging around is great, recycling at it's finest. Many years ago I purchased 6 small block core motors from a school district bus shop, if they had a motor issue they would buy a goodwrench long block and swap it out. I ended up with enough decent parts to build a couple good engines out of the deal to keep my rigs going for a while.

In the late 70s worked for a Chevy dealer. One of my mechanic friends was working on a 78,z28 with a engine miss. Disassembled the 350 and found a hole in one piston, used a piston from old warranty claim motor. My friend did not like doing that but the owner said do it, so he did. The motor ran good. FYI it was green/white stripes pretty cool car. I detailed it and it looked amazing. Car sold in two days.

Doing the 'will it run' videos is great, but a lot of it boils down to your FASTEC essentials; this video, your blower 350 and a couple of the older engine videos were awesome! Perfect car for your blown motor. We put an L88 in a 1970 elcamino with nitrous. It turned 10.86 in a qtr mile run. When my brother shifted into drive he hit the nitrous button. It twisted the driveshaft in three pieces. He coasted through the traps at 10.86. Can't remember what the MPH was. That was the only time we raced it. With your blower motor and some 16in slicks you be a bad man.😊

I'm working on my daughter's orange '69 SS el Camino. It sat 15 yrs. in my mother's barn and then I sold it to my friend and he let it set 8 years in his shop. Short story, he passed away and left it to my daughter. Just before Christmas '23, I got it started. It started and died about 5 times and #5 cyl exhaust vale was rusty and stuck open, broke off, shattered the piston and knocked a 1 1/2" x 4 inch chunk out of the cylinder wall. luckily, it wasn't the original 396. I ended up putting a rebuilt '72 truck 402 short block in it. Starting to put all new brake system on, now.

If you "slather" on wheel bearing grease on the rear main where the crank rides on it will stay on the seal way longer than assembly grease will giving you an extra layer of sealing so oil doesn't drip out of the seal. Wheel bearing grease is for high temp applications so it's going to take a much longer time to melt off of the seal if ever. Never had a rear main leak since I started doing this.😎👍

I had a buddy that had a 69 Ranchero that had the 428 Cobra Jet with a 5-speed he had added, and he finally agreed to sell it to me. Sadly, he backed it out of his garage the night before I was to have picked it up and some jerk stole it. Police found it but it had been stripped and burned. That was in 99 and it still tears me up.

Mortske pulls roasted small block...Mojo gives it one look..."I can fix that!" with a smile on his face. You go, Mojo! Gotta love the guy.

That is the best "craigs list" engine I have seen in a long time. You should relist it ASAP.

I had a 69 Ranchero 289, 3 on the tree. White tan interior, I still have it, my father and I lowered it.
My buddy had a 69 El Camino, 350, 3 on the tree. He still has his.
His was way faster than mine.
Anyway, we thought we were the coolest 17 year olds alive.
    Fun memories thanks.

The Mortske rebuild sounds good! That's incredible from 2 basically junk engines. That's for sure making the most of what you have. And I can bet money it'd still pull a sick one wheel peel in the mullet machine

It's kinda scary to think that the once common as dirt small block chevy is now obsolete but you are quite right about them being out of production for many many years. The LS has kind of taken over.
