This piece (especially the ferocity of the soloist) reminds me of something Tetzlaff once said: "The listener loses the ear for the most beautiful sounds if they've been used for arbitrary, non-important things." Thanks for reminding us about these beautiful sounds and giving us a new way to hear them!
This piece is marvel and a wonder- it has some of the best pacing I've ever heard, with not a single dead spot in sight! The performance is also wonderful- bringing out all of those wonderful intricacies of texture in the 3rd movement, and that amazingly playful subversion of the perfect cadence at the very end of the piece! Wonderful work from Daniel Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, and a masterpiece from David!
A masterpiece! An oeuvre of great maturity in the writing and of the thematic clarity. Bravo Maestro! And my applause to the interprets that had to decipher this somewhat truly difficult score. Cheers!
I don't like throwing around this phrase because it starts becoming meaningless, but this piece is a triumph. It is halting and beautiful and presents a simple joy. Your soloist is fantastic. It can be easy for me to forget how powerful an immaculate solo performance that isn't written simply to impress is. Amid all the virtuostic pieces, the meticulous incomprehensible rhythms, and vibrant pallettes of electronic music, it is easy to overlook the seemingly simple (though I know this is anything but) and its ability to cut straight to the soul. Thank you.
this is sooooooooooo amazing! Thank you for sharing it with the score follow ❤ I used to play double bass and the peak moment of that phase of my life was getting the chance to be introduced to your music and play Steampunk.
Well this is the coolest thing I’ve heard for strings since the second movement of Ravel’s quartet. Bravo! The opening ‘soul shards’ quote is just stunning.
OMG! You can't believe how excited I am to find this on TH-cam. I just went to the German site and it was gone!!! I absolutely love this song. I wish it was on Spotify.
This is actually amazing! I love the idea of "classical vaporwave" where you slow down snippets of classical music EDIT: Also, do you know how to maybe fix the audio in some places? It seems to randomly stop at a few points in the video
266 to the end what a great way to end with all the chromaticism and big glissandi! Overall this piece is a compelling yet strange work that kept me interested throughout. Nice job David! Are you a Neo-Baroque composer, then?

It begins like Schnittke and ends like P.D.Q. Bach - it’s amazing!

23:25 | 4. The Cure for Melancholy
That ENDING!

I love this! Will this be on spotify anytime soon?
This is amazing
Strange audio at 25:34 though
in the partiture is a *tape stop*
@@Altopastoyeah I saw that, but the audio cuts out two measures before that which is strange
what a romp!
I really want to perform this, just to form a string orchestra and get Bruce’s permission
Where did the other violin concerto go? I can't find it anywhere :(
