"To the power of 10" for 10 oboes by David Bruce - score follow
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Written for 10 oboes, "To the Power of 10" was commissioned by the Wigmore Hall for oboist Nicholas Daniel. It then underwent a substantial re-write and was performed in this revised version for Nicholas Daniel's 60th birthday concert at the hall. The piece is a playful consideration of the power of ten oboes, often playing in canon to create an overwhelming blast of pure oboe joy (-: Duration ...

Such wonderful themes and ideas here. Can't wait to make my own bushwhacker. You have inspired me to finally research North & Central African folksong. I e had this idea over ten years but not seriously researched any sources.

I randomly stumbled upon this at 6 a.m. and can't stop listening to movement 2, and everything else, too! On paper, I would have been sceptical about the combination of instruments, too, but this turned out very good :)

This piece (especially the ferocity of the soloist) reminds me of something Tetzlaff once said: "The listener loses the ear for the most beautiful sounds if they've been used for arbitrary, non-important things." Thanks for reminding us about these beautiful sounds and giving us a new way to hear them!

266 to the end what a great way to end with all the chromaticism and big glissandi! Overall this piece is a compelling yet strange work that kept me interested throughout. Nice job David! Are you a Neo-Baroque composer, then?

This piece is marvel and a wonder- it has some of the best pacing I've ever heard, with not a single dead spot in sight! The performance is also wonderful- bringing out all of those wonderful intricacies of texture in the 3rd movement, and that amazingly playful subversion of the perfect cadence at the very end of the piece! Wonderful work from Daniel Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, and a masterpiece from David!

I don't like throwing around this phrase because it starts becoming meaningless, but this piece is a triumph. It is halting and beautiful and presents a simple joy. Your soloist is fantastic. It can be easy for me to forget how powerful an immaculate solo performance that isn't written simply to impress is. Amid all the virtuostic pieces, the meticulous incomprehensible rhythms, and vibrant pallettes of electronic music, it is easy to overlook the seemingly simple (though I know this is anything but) and its ability to cut straight to the soul. Thank you.

The music is wonderful but hearing some of the singers' pronounciation weirds me out a bit - there is a visceral feeling of uncanniness at play sometimes. That being said there is nothing wrong with that and the pieces themselves are wobderful. Thank you!
