Why don’t dental offices teach people how to brush and food properly? Especially if so many people have been found to use the wrong technique. I am almost 40 and I’ve never had a dental office instruct me on proper technique. Never.

I'm prone to cavities AND gum desease. It's not just what I think, my dentist told me, that due to my oral flora, it will always be this way. I try to floss after every meal now and it helps. Rigorous regime helps a lot. I will probably have some cavities in the future, but I'm visiting my dentist often enough for this not to become a bigger issue anymore.

I just wish I’d had this information when I was young! All those cavities and fillings that are turning into root canals and crowns😡
I’ve found a great tip for the community. I’m loving the Colgate toothpastes with stannous fluoride. Other brands may be just as good idk. My teeth would stain previously but they’ve made it somehow stain free. I have sensitive teeth and the stannous fluoride seems to work just as well as potassium nitrate.

Exactly! I was 23 of age when I start to have smartphone to search for information on web and internet was more common.😢 we don't have all the resources you have to know of the routine practice for good oral hygiene, I didn't know you have to floss, had regular dental check up until I got periodontal diseases and it's already too late. 😢 it's make me depressed and suicidal for bad gums and teeth. We were not educated enough, and my parents never taught us stuff like this too. 😢

One thing I learned worsens my cavities is nutrient deficiency! I had gone many years with no cavities and had not changed my brushing-flossing routine but noticed when I moved to the US suddenly I was getting a lot of cavities and I was thinking it was the toothpaste or the foods I was eating and very greatly ignoring the fact that I was simply just relapsing in my eating disorder (I cut out all sugars and when I still kept getting cavities I was like why??). Literally from simple food restriction (for me it was around 600 cals a day over two years) I just kept getting more cavities. I’m working on recovery again for my teeth !

I went through most of my life with almost no cavity issues even though I didn't do a good job keeping my teeth clean nor did I avoid sweets. I took for granted that I was immune to cavities. However, I suddenly started getting lots of cavities. I am trying to figure out what changed. I asked around and it seems many people started having teeth issues when they age past 40. I wish Teeth Talk Girl can discuss what changes with age to people's teeth.

    • @komfykoala6083
      @komfykoala6083 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Maybe hormonal changes or changes in diet or poor nutritional absorption. Did you move to a colder climate with less sunshine (aka vitamin D which is absolutely essential for dental health)? Are you consuming enough fat soluble vitamins? Are you on any new medication or experiencing any recent dehydration that causes dry mouth? Did you do an oral microbiome test and have a high cavity causing bacteria count? There is so much to dentistry than simply brushing, flossing, fluoride, and not eating a lot of sugar (even those are really important, but not enough for most people). Good luck on finding the root cause.

However, my dentist assured me it wasn’t something that happens immediately overnight & it can happen to anyone. He mentioned to not get discouraged & a filling is far better than a root canal or extraction. He also said I had improved a lot since my first visit YEARS ago & to keep up the good habits at home as it’s about prevention. 🥺 It’s important to hear these things & be reminded! ❤🪥🦷

Nowadays, when I eat sweet OR salty snacks (cookies, chocolate bars, crackers, chips, etc.), I sip milk and/or end my snack with a small piece of cheese. I’ve also recently started taping my mouth shut at night because I noticed that it felt quite dry in the morning, and I understand that a dry mouth promotes cavities.
Speaking of dairy, I wonder whether populations that customarily end their meals with cheese (whether instead of dessert or following it), such as the French, have better oral health than populations that don’t.

I used to water floss about 15-20 mins after eating and I noticed it made my teeth super sensitive. Is this because it’s just as bad as brushing before the 30 min mark? Thanks! :)

I’am only 41 yrs old. I keep having cavities is so disappointing everytime I get a new one. I have lost a bunch of my teeth. To the point that my quality of life getting seriously affected. I don’t know what to do anymore with this problem. Now it seems to be getting worse after getting gastric bypass surgery. I do brush and floss my teeth. But still getting cavities and losing my teeth. I don’t if it has to do with me having chronic anemia. Plus lacking vitamins I have vitamin deficiency as well.

My friend named Kaleb got very lucky. His grandma, in her mid-late 60’s and a life long cigarette smoker, to my knowledge has all of her original teeth. (May have lost one in the back or something I only say this cuz idk) but she seems to have all of her natural teeth. Which I look up to! Then you have Kaleb, smokes weed and vapes nicotine throughout his childhood and now as an adult, sometimes wont even brush (his grandma brushes every morning and night) but he still looks to have NO CAVITIES!!! He’ll chew on hard things just to upset me it seems (doesnt actually mean any harm). But then you have me, i tried being a rebel who smoked, ate loads of carbs and candy, and barely ever brushed my teeth… i let that go for years… and UNLIKE Kaleb.. who doesnt even eat any veggies or fruits, I have a mouth full of cavities at 17. One of them my dentist wants to pull. My mom lost all her teeth and my dads lost the majority.. i’m scared to eat anything that wasnt in your best foods for teeth video or listed as ok for your teeth online. My morning redbull turned into a morning sip of sugar free sparkling water then only tap water all day. I hate it 😀. I’m now brushing, and going to the dentist, unfortunately they book me for forever away every time so i’ll have cavities for a while but yeah… there’s definitely cavity prone and not cavity prone. Almost all of my friends didnt care about their teeth at all for years, the cavity differences are wild. Kaleb? None. Andy? Almost every tooth. Brady? None. Me? 1/3 of my teeth. It’s safe to way i’m obsessed with your videos now.

How do apples neutralize the acids in your mouth if apples are acidic?

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Chewing the fibrous texture of the fruit and its skin can stimulate your gums, reduce cavity-causing bacteria and increase saliva flow --- and can also gently remove plaque trapped between teeth. Hope this helps!

I find it strange that I’ve never had a cavity as an adult and many as a kid.
    That’s not the strange part.
The strange part is that I have not gone to a dentist once as an adult and would go every 6 months when I was a kid.
I know it’s gross but sometimes I might go a day or 2 without brushing 🤷‍♂️
Could it be my half ass method I use to mitigate?

@SeverelyAcoustic84 I think there may be some truth to this 🤔
      But..
I believe our bodies were made with the intelligence to not self-destruct. The underlying programming of our bodies is SURVIVAL.
It’s hard for me to subscribe to the belief that our bodies will damage themselves because of stress .. like auto-immune illnesses. I believe there must be something else there, so ..
I currently I align more with the forgotten theories of the late 1800s - mid 1900s in which many doctors & scientists believed that most if not all diseases are caused by the overgrowth of highly pleomorphic microorganisms. Things like bacteria, virus, fungus, parasites … etc
It is well established at this point that our bodies host a large ecosystem of both pathogenic & beneficial microbes. It is the role of our beneficial microbes to maintain a balance between them and the pathogenic ones.
However, when we begin to change the environment within our bodies in a way that favors the pathogenic microbes, they morph into virulent & opportunistic forms and cause all sorts of problems.
Environmental changes can be interpreted as nutritional deficiencies, compromised immune system as a result of nutritional deficiencies, toxins such as preservatives & synthetic antibiotics that cause extreme imbalance or toxins such as endocrine disruptors, excessive sugar consumption which tends to be the preferred fuel source for most pathogenic microorganisms. They tend to be fermenters as well with a strong dislike of oxygen. And of course stress as well can significantly impact the immune system. So it may seem like stress is a direct cause but it’s not. The cascading effects of a dwindling immune system due to high stress would allow these pathogenic microbes to proliferate resulting in disease… I have a personal story about this.
To me, this just makes more sense.

Also, rinse what water and baking soda to get your mouth PH up. Try to finish your meals/snacks within 20 minute window and rise with water/baking soda to elevate mouth ph. This is the biggest way to not get cavities. No dentist will tell u this.

I know it may be a little vain, but I really do not want to remove my wisdom teeth. I got one removed, and I miss it. I miss it quite a bit. The main issue was that the maxillary third molars grew in normally, but the mandibular 3rd molars are impacted. This led to a situation where the teeth can't contribute to chewing. The best they can do is nothing, and the worst they can do is rot. My upper right did just that (I'm very cavity prone), so I had to get it removed. I felt so sad, like a part of me was missing. I felt really bad for three to four weeks, as though I had done something I would regret for the rest of my life. My mouth feels more open now, and I am still getting used to it. I don't want to go through that process again. I wish that I took better care of my teeth in highschool, because I am paying the price for it only 3 years later.
Nowadays, I brush twice everyday diligently, never missing a day, I floss once a day, and I tongue scrape too. I make sure to eat lots of crunchy fruits/veg after each meal. I limit my carbohydrate intake, I do pretty much everything. I don't know what it is. I need to fix my oral flora, but I don't know how. Do I get someone to spit in my mouth? Do I completely eradicate the bacterial populations with bleach or something? I really don't know what to do. Maybe a rinse with baking Sode + water every now and again could remove the acid loving bacteria, and preferentially grow the other ones, but I haven't tested it. Has anyone seen any success with any particular method? Don't say oil pulling, I've tried it, and it doesn't work for me. I also haven't tried xylitol. I wish God wasn't so cruel when he gave me weak teeth, but here I am.
Anyways, is anyone in a similar situation, or better yet gotten out of it? I think I need someone who knows about this kind of stuff.

I'm so angry. I have another deep cavity. As a child I wasn't taught to properly brush daily let alone floss. When I had my kids I got major cavities from calcium deficiencies. I am cavity prone. All of my teeth have cavities. My molars are the worst. I have to lose another tooth due to decay. I've become used to toothache pain. Now I have a tooth that is "snapping", only hurts when it snaps, it's like a punch in the face. This is after treatment of antibiotics from severe pain from the deep hole (couldn't afford care after it breaking when chewing a chip). I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth and had to have all 8 back teeth removed. I'm too young for my teeth to all be pulled so soon and can't even get dentures. My face is going to sag when I get this one pulled out because I can't afford dental care. Yes I have to save up just to get one tooth pulled. I need the implants or bridge or whatever. It just makes me angry and sad.

Even watching a video like this one, where frankly most of what is said sounds like common sense, there can be one piece of common sense which hits you "pow" full on because it had not been part of your own common sense. In this case for me it was "pay attention to the last thing you eat"-so obvious when you think about it, but I had never thought about it before.
Dont share her enthusiasm for fluoride though. There may well be something true about xlitol gum. If on the whole Americans eat and drink all the bad things for their teeth, why are their teeth so often suprisingly in good shape? I mean most people would agree that the Americans eat more unhealthily than the Russians or the Spanish. But would most people think that Russians or Spanish have better teeth? I definitely dont think so! Could it because there is xlitol in all the gum Americans are chewing? If so, maybe we should really all go out and get this xlitol gum.
