      I used to grind in my sleep without knowing it, I had a jaw that clicked any time I opened my mouth wide. My dentist suggested a night guard. I only wore it a few times and I don't grind anymore!! I don't even have a clicking jaw anymore!

      At some point during their lives, yes. Otherwise seemingly far fewer. But either way, yea most people have some degree of experience there for sure.

      mind-boggling how many years some of us (including myself) lived knowing these dental tips, but either ignored them or followed them loosely. I never took brushing twice a day or flossing seriously until in recent years. Even then, sometimes I would skip days or not because I was tired or lazy but thanks to my current dentist and this channel, I've been doing so much better!!

    I thought that I would struggle using a night guard, but it has been so easy, and it has even helped my sleep apnea. I've never been bad enough for a CPAP, but the mougth guard has made it really not necessary now. Only problem is people should know not to run them under hot water. Mine kind of got altered in some hot water. I panicked and ran it in some warm water and put it back in my mouth to form it back. Truth tho, I probably need a new one. I can't seem to keep mine from accumulating white spots on it. Like dried spit. I clean it every day, but it comes back. I put it in the efferdent every week.

      Why does it feel better?

    • @eobrien1
      @eobrien1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@shubhamjain54519 basically, when a nightguard is old or not adjusted properly, your teeth don’t glide like they’re supposed to & it puts too much stress on the jaw. I can feel a huge release of that tension already bc I can’t clench down with that muscle like I could before.

    "90% of adults clench or grind their teeth".
    I don't think the study was suggesting that, right? (though I can't easily get to the exact study from my phone). Just that 90% of people at some point in their (whole?) lives, have done it before. Otherwise the percentage is much lower.
    I don't know if they only looked at adults.
    From a study that cites it:
    The ICSD-R states that 85-90% of the general population grind their teeth to a degree at some point during their life, although only 5% will develop a clinical condition.
    Studies have reported that awake bruxism (AB) affects females more commonly than males, while in sleep bruxism (SB), males are as equally affected as females.
    A 2013 systematic review of the epidemiologic reports of bruxism concluded a prevalence of about 22.1-31% for AB, 9.7-15.9% for SB, and an overall prevalence of about 8-31.4% of bruxism generally.
    The review overall concludes that bruxism affects males and females equally and affects elderly people less commonly.

    Is there a risk of using mouthwash unnecessarily, because I sometimes do worry about bacterial resistance when I use them.

    • @bridgetscotney8837
      @bridgetscotney8837 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Use a mouthwash for a specific cause such as preventing cavities. Fluoride mouthwash can be used daily to prevent cavities and sensitive teeth. Any mouthwash with chlorehexidine for gum disease can cause a resistance so only use short term to treat gum disease. Other mouthwashes are a waste of money.
