What I think about people defending Gamefreak, Nintendo and Pokemon? I don't hate them, I don't even dislike them.
I just don't understand them... so I just ignore them. Less headaches that way.
I honestly don't see any point in defending a multi-billion $ company. If it has all that money, employee's, talent, etc... and they still fail or can't innovate or adapt.
There's no point in defending that company unless a natural disaster or something similar to a bombs arriving at their office. I would see anything short of that, as an excuse.
If a AAA game developer had their entire office get destroyed in a flood, earthquake, tornado, etc. I would completely understand if their next game to come out may be lackluster, or it's delayed, cancelled, etc. I'd join the defense in that situation, and only that situation.
Some people can't conceptualise how things could be better. Even if there were better just a few games ago

oh i dislike them, i dislike them a lot. people like that are what is wrong with our world, sure pokemon doesn't _really_ matter, but what about whatever other terrible practices in the industry? what about corporations in general? politics? people like this enable the world to get worse everywhere they are found and they are found every god damned where.

The part that gets me is Palworld is on track to outsell Pokemon S/V. This is an affordable, fun, and additive game that focuses on things that people who actually play the games want. It's cute, and colorful, and absolutely unhinged at points.
Pokemon has been trapped in a box of safe choices since around the time of Sun and Moon. Same formula with very minor quality of life updates time and time again. Start->Story->Gang Fights->Story->Second Gang Fight(but for real this time)->End Rival Arc->Champion.
As my friend pointed out. Reason is why Nintendo surely won’t go to pc is because the sales of their consoles would go down.

I think palworld is a adult version of Pokemon.
This drama with Palworld is so funny to me cause it reminds me of the issue where Riot sued Moonton for copying LoL with their ML:BB game where Riot literally did the same thing with Blizzard's DoTA (But worse)
And this issue came from Palworld same reason why ML:BB was made as well in the first place

difference is dota was a fan mod not an official product. However I think people should be able to compete makes companies less complacent that way

One major point why so many people I think love Palworld, me included is that its a "Pokemon" game for the OG pokemon fans who have grown up and now find zero challenge unless its arbitrary restrictions we apply to our playthroughs of the past decade of pokemon games, plus because of this part of the fanbase are adults we crave mature themes for the stuff we love but we all know that any fan works and projects get immediate and violently taken down by TPC that having palworld be our laidback pal in letting its community make what it wants how it wants with its designs and themes weather it be cute artwork, mods *that isnt that one pokemon mod*, craft projects like all those random chillet plushies that people are making, the crazy animations people have been going wild with, and of course the guarantee of R34 that all of it is pretty much appreciated by PocketPair since they are a small indie dev who still has their humbleness unlike TPC who sits on their Pokemonopoly so high that they forget what people and fan really are instead of walking wallets.
On challenge part not only imo do adults want some but I feel alot also think kids arnt as stupid as the games think they are and want kids to have a better time than being held held 24/7
So to summarize why:
- Cheaper priced than Pokemon
- More developed and not as rushed as Pokemon
- More affordable than Pokemon (who even has a Switch in my hometown... nobody that's who but my cousin and a few friends is playing Palworld)
- More polished than Pokemon-
- Just as memeful like Pokemon but actually in a good non-glitchy way (there's still glitches but they're not Pokemon S/V level glitches)
- Devs are putting more effort and love than a AAA "indie" company that's so lazy and out of touch that denial doesn't exist in their dictionary
- No expensive marketing compared to Pokemon...just word of mouth and a few trailers
- The PW Devs are actually trying
That's how success feels like.
great video! i clicked on this because of The Act Man's video thumbnail, what i didn't expect was very level-headed arguments from an anime girl vtuber with so much personality. i'll be coming back for more.
I will say that If you want a pokemon game that has that 2.5d graphics AND includes sprite animations pokemon black, white, black2, and white2 are some of the best in that regard
If it comes down to just Pokemon, i would consider the Minecraft Pixelmon Mod as the best Pokemon game out there. Although that might be taken over by the Cobblemon Mod.
True, cobblemon just feels more minecraft like and is actuslly a biy more polished too, pixelmon is kinda, idk, buggy? There is just something that is different with cobblemon outside of the UI and the models

I always saw Palworld as Pokemon and Ark Survival Evolved combined. Also you can get rid of the wanted level by flying really high and just staying there until it disappears. The only humans I try to capture are the syndicate crushers with the giant minigun.

25:24 we are seeing that in real time as an indie dev team with the resorces of an indie team struggle to maintain servers counts of giant AAA studios, and so if my memories currect theyre server costs are reportadly around 400,000 $ a year just to maintain servers for all the players, thats not counting all the money to continue developing the game as you need to expand the dev team and pay old and new workers, as well as promoting the game, and developing preliferaries like the card game... which may have just been a dev shitpost its hard to say, pocket pair are known to release some silly fake videos like with the cooking pals video responding to the out of touch group peta.

Other thing that Pal world is not published by triple AAA company. The publisher simply say Pal world was completed and Indie company get all the blame and publisher get all the money.
one correction - Fortnight was popular because another game company released a shitty game that was good but they went with the original basic format they had before the mods made said game the titan it become.
and lets not forget that Fortnight is a free to play game, Palworld coast above 20 USD
Controversy drives sales is a HUGE marketing strategy now. For example Bayonetta 3 was a few months before its release date was gonna happen and no one cared about it. THEN Helena Taylor the original voice of Bayonetta went on social media and broke her NDA with Platinum over Payment for her services as the Voice of Bayonetta. She claimed she wasn't being paid enough and to this day Voice Actor pay is still in dispute. Because of her Social Media Post and her begging the gamers not to buy the game, it had an adverse effect sadly. The game went up on pre-orders simply because a lot of gamers were told "DON'T BUY THIS" and sadly a lot of gamer mentality is "You don't tell me what to do". So her controversy actually benefited Bayonetta 3 and drove up the sales then if she'd stayed silent.
About the mod, I have heard that it was also behind a paywall (or a Patreon), so you needed to pay to be able to install the mod, and that was one of the reasons that Pokemon Company tried to sue them. Because they were benefiting financially using assets very similar to pokemon.

Palworld is a parody of Pokemon. The catchphrase "Pokemon with guns" seals that, but there is plenty of other evidence for that. For instance, the in game descriptions of the pals. The thing about parody is that people have to be able to recognize what's being parodied. The two have to be similar enough to do that. Copyright law recognizes that, and regards parody as transformative, so the restrictions against making it too similar are very lax. And, there are 138 Pals, and 1025 pokemon. There are going to be similarities from that alone, but for parody purposes, it helps if people can actually spot analogs.

Game is fun but I imagine that slows when you reach max level. Be interesting to see what they do with PvP and DlC to keep it fresh.
I can for sure say once I reach max level and defeat all bosses I will be completing the paldeck with all the variations, which is something I never bothered with in pokemon despite being a huge fan. I still dont know how pvp will work out, but im hoping for some new element variations further down the line.

Another thing why Palworld succeded more than other monster catching games is, the other games tends to be darker in a serious way, Palworld on the other hand is darker in a funny way, and you don't need or force yourself to be cruel with your pals, is an option, a Litmus test sorta, that I think is a real game for everyone, make a dark story just to pretend to be a more mature version of Pokémon is missing the point of why Pokémon is so popular, role playing, you role play to be the best trainer (even if in game you can't do fick up things like in Palworld, you imagination does) that's also I think latest Pokémon games sucks because in a 3D space, the room of imagination declines. In Palworld, you role play to survive in the archipelago, and you decide if you gonna be a good, bad or insane madafoka.
Digimon was the closer one but that franchise never keep a consistant identity gameplay wise and was more a Tamagochi rival, the other closer was Yokai Watch, but I think that failed because after the first game, Level copy the worst thing of Pokémon, dual releases, and other things I'm not familiar because I was not into Yokai Watch myself because yokai desings are to ugly for me.

42:30 laws in Japan for copyright are NOT the same as in US/western world, people need to not forget this. IP laws in Japan are more strict. Which is part of why TH-cam rules are... complicated.
TH-cam is based in the US therefore it follows US law. And US copyright law is archaic and stupid af XD

This does not mean they will have to do find the common denominator, but they have to find a policy which works in most countries and change some of their processes for certain countries, to fit laws in countries which are the exceptions.

Yeah the main issues with Pokémon is the lack of things to do… also Palworld wasn’t the first Monster Collecting game that allowed the player to be an active participant… Shin Megami Tensei did that concept first and Yokai Watch 4(which is stuck in Translation hell) did the real-time battling thing before Palworld… but yeah from the looks of it Palworld is really cool and fun…

pokemon has competitors, actual competitors not games in a completely different genre. like, cassette beasts absolutely should have been in the discussion for GOTY last year.
on difficulty; pokemon can't have it. i have played and enjoyed games like pokemon reborn, but the base systems of pokemon cannot handle a game designed like that. leveling up especially is a chore, but the battles can't really have satisfying complexity either.

Something I'd like to touch on that wasn't talked about: one big problem I think Pokémon has is how stuck it is to the archaic turn-based system the series is. Like they tried to change it a little for Let's Go and Legends Arceus, and then gave up. We live in a time where Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, the two grandfathers of turn-based combat, have both evolved and improved their battle system for the modern age but Pokémon hasn't.
Also I'll never forgive Game Freak for butchering the end-game from X&Y onwards, and they just kept testing my patience until I quit with US/UM. Though seeing as the Pokémon fan has to pay $35 dollery-doos for the endgame I'm glad I stopped there.

FIrst of all there are bugs (oh yea) however, they don't break the game (that i've seen personally) but they are ( and let's be real here), they are soooo meme worthy, you can have a 24hr channel devoted to the bugs in the game and i bet they would all in some way be meme worthy...

This might be an unpopular opinion,vbut I liked Pokemon violet, in almost every way, what I didn't like was the fact that the master bal had no necessary use
Ignoring the obvious issues with scar/vio (that being that they dont function well... At all), my biggest issue is still that they took every major innovation that legends arceus made, ignored them, and said "nah you dont want alphas attacking you in real time, or to be able to catch mons quickly without engaging in a battle, or actual boss battles... You want things the OLD way". They needed to push the concepts that legends introduced further since that was their first genuine jump forward for the series, and instead they chose to stumble so far backwards that all the progression has basically been undone. I can applaid the story for being actually really good, or for the QoL which was amazing, but all of that goes out the window when the game crashes, lags to 10fps or lower, tera raids bug out and screw you over... Its just pathetic. Palworld did take the innovations that legends had and pushed them even further and lo and behold, its a significantly better and more engaging game because of it.
Its also a complete fucking joke, that some devs who had 0 fucking clue what they were even doing, managed to outdo the largest media franchise to ever exist. Im sorry, but that shows gamefreak shouldnt be in charge of pokemon ever again. If theyre that incompetent to a point where rookies are outdoing the veterans by that wide of a margin, then there is no hope for them. Take the B team that worked on legends, and make newer games with that team (and more employees obviously) with some new blood, new ideas, and actual realistic deadlines.
The timing also works because no one really enjoys pokemon after Scarlet and Violet DLC complete the game. Not to mention how bad the release was cuz of the bugs and glitches

I literally cannot find a team if 6 new pokemon to use in the new games, i always default to older gen mons or in the case of scarlet i just used revamps of older designs because the only way gamefreak can make a good design is to copy their past selfs 😂 meanwhile palworld has stuff like chillet, maraith, frostallion, quivern and a multitude of other amazing designs that make me very grateful i can use them at my base bevause if not than i would need more slots than 5, even 6 wouldny be enough for how many are amazing and most arent even copies of pokemon, since in reality therws like what? 3 or 4 actual ones you could make a case for that are direct rip offs.
Also when it comes to game developement, its about leadership, and indi devs have smaller teams to manage but these big tripple A companies need better leadership, and you may think im talking about some big suit thats gone to Harvard, but nope i mean you gotta find the kid that went to business school and plays copious amounts of games in their spare time 😂 but these studios always hire the wrong people, like look at pocket pairs ceo, its just some guy inna cat shirt lmao

While I do enjoy some of the designs in the new Pokemon games, it is mostly the old-style art of them. The 3D models are TERRIBLE 90% of the time.

They likely cannot compete with Palworld for your attention, specifically, because you love the unhinged side of Palworld. But for the vast majority of pokemon fans who only played Palworld because they've been jonesing for a halfway decent pokemon open world action game for a long time now? Nintendo can easily reclaim their throne. All they have to do is the obvious thing that nobody expects.
