KTM 390 Duke vs Yamaha MT-03 Naked Comparison Real World Test Review

- While Yamaha has been late in answering the ‘Call of the Blue’ of Indian enthusiasts, KTM has been painting the country orange with its mental machines. Hence, when the MT-03 did arrive, at a shocking price mind you, the response wasn’t quite as joyous. So, does it still have any redeeming factors that can make someone think to buy one over the new 390 Duke or is the Austrian naked just far too good?

More like Empty 03 😂
Hahahaha, good one dude!!
Bro nailed it 😂
Still way more better than aNuS 400z 😂
More like chapri duke😂
6 lakhs for this , do u even believe it, 1.85 lakhs for ns400z 💪
🌟390 Is Aggressive In Every Possible Department, Super Aggressive Power Delivery, Aggressive Styling, Aggressive Pricing 👍
Price justifies its performance
R15 is the only bike Yamaha has nailed well in India, I think they are fit to stay there and not interested in taking on anything higher in India. I don't think Yamaha India has what it takes to compete in India with likes of KTM and now Aprillia.
Totally agree to this POV, even the FZ series has been diluted. It's very sad given how strong their portfolio is in international markets. Yamaha India needs to start locally manufacturing sub-500cc bikes as this segment will boom a lot in the near future.
@@ArunNadar-AckoDriveagree, now a days more are interested in 300-500cc bikes than ever before.
R15 is getting more expensive by the minute. It is 2.2 lakhs onroad which bikes like karizma offer much better value as well as interms of performance. They're getting greedy and wait till Bajaj update the RS200. R15 outprice these other two bikes by a massive 30k-40k. They're digging their own grave. As for me, I can't wait to get my hands on the beast RS457. Heart says RS457 but mind says Duke 390.
Only problem for Yamaha is they don't have Production Line up in India ... Due to which they fall in pricing department
One of the best indepth reviews of motorcycles is done here. Do Keep it up sirs..🎉
Thanks a ton
Thank you for the kind words, hope you have subscribed :)
Great review, I've owned a Duke 390 now for 5 years and not a beginner but an end bike. After trading in my original Metzlers I have run the Michelin piolet power 2ct's and love them, they will not let go in the best of the California twisties.....
Where do you guys got seat hight adjuster for duke 390. Even i own one of these beast need that power part ....residing in kerala (Trivandrum)..please let me know. Is it avialable at your palce ??
Check you KTM service centre, it is arriving now
How much for it? @@ackodrive
I thought you two were gone for good. Nice to see y'all online, that too with the MT-03. That bike needs some attention even though it's not VFM.
The attention it needs is not from us the enthusiast but from Yamaha and it's engineers as a wake up call that bikes like these will never succeed as it fails to live up to aspiration, and that's the biggest disheartening thing about a bike.
@@ackodrive that's true. Yamaha India's decision this time was more of a stock clearance rather than meeting the consumers' needs while they can do way more.
Good to see you too buddy, hope you have subscribed!
Could you please provide the part number / part name for the seat heaight adjuster for the 390 Duke , I asked my local service centre they seem to be unaware.
Same case here
The 820mm KTM seat is difficult to get. I was able to place an order with the dealer by pushing emails to KTM's internal management.
However, they forgot to order the orange panels that go with the taller seat, and now I'm waiting for those.
Can i please know where did you got the seat spacer (820) mm seat ?
Same question
Now available at KTM service centres
@@ackodrive thanks for the response will definitely check with them
Can you please tell me from where you got the 820mm seat!?? I have been asking everywhere but no one has any clue about it!!
Try your KTM service centres, it is arriving now
@@ackodrive They have absolutely no idea about it! I called them up after looking at your video and both my dealership from where I bought the bike and the service center have no clue 😪. I stay in Mumbai
Bro from where you got those side tank pads for 390T?
Looks so sexy!
Those are from our friends at Autologue Designs in Pune. Really solid stuff
Can they be bought online?
I live in Odisha, Bhubaneswar!
Those would just make my atlantic blue coloured 390T a killer looker!@@ackodrive
How good is pillion comfort on rs 457 and it’s mileage ? Bit confused to buy 390 or 457 as I don’t upgrade bikes frequently. Cud u pls guide me ?
We are going to get the rs457 for a real world test soon. So stay tuned for the outcome.
Go for 390 bro for long term usage. Aprillia is not a reliable machine. Service & spare parts availability is a big headache.
@@ravidwarak7332 cool thank u bro
Wtf pillion comfort on a faired bike😂
@@jjjjjjjj61 true that
If this is the so-called 'Call of the Blue', then you might as well add them to your block list. No, Yamaha.
And that's such a sad thing because Yamaha does make some really really nice bikes. Let down by its poor positioning and planning
Iam waiting to get my duke but engine niggles and first lot thing stopped me from getting one, do you guys think can should I get it now or should I wait some more time??
Hi Akhil, we feel the first lot issues have been solved and you can go ahead with the purchase.
@@ArunNadar-AckoDrive great to hear that Arun ,thanks for the reply..
Onroad price in Bangalore
Mt03 - 5.8L
Aprilla 457 - 5.3L
Duke 390 - 4.1L
Can the Yamaha Mt03 really justify its hefty price tag ?
Hey guys, your duke has a seat spacer.
Any idea where I can buy one for myself?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REPLY
It is available in Bengaluru at few service centres. Funnily, it is very difficult to be arranged in Pune, right where it is made.
@@ackodrive Jehan has one, any idea he could help me with it?
Do ktm duke 390 2024 do come with the rider seat pacers(820mm seat height)in india?
Taller seat available at KTM service centres
I have duke 390 and it is a nice bike very nimble clam and relaxed unlike previous version..i wish the exahaust was little louder and sharper..
If is about UK, i will go with KTM, i know few places arround London where i had my duke 125 in service(one piston explode) and they change all the engine+othet reuquestes for custom
MT03 needs to be better designed, fork with preload adjustability to say the least, slipper clutch, adjustable levers and TFT dash with optional connectivity. QS could be an add on as most dont know the use and how to use them since most commute and QS works the best when on a freeway or a racetrack. At this price in India and lack of all components, it is a purchase only for someone who likes the design and has the moolah for it.
Amen, brother!
How’s the reliability of the 390 KTM so far?
I damn sure never lose yamahas build quality
Do I see a seat spacer out there on the Duke 390? Is it made available now India?
Yes it is! And it is not at all expensive, like most KTM spares and accessories
How much is the 20mm spacer that you have upgraded on your Duke 390 gen 3?
@@ackodriveLovely
Hopefully the Tuono 457 will be launched soon and be that competition against Duke 390 that everyone expects
Yes, that's the hope🤞🏻
Could u compare the Speed 400 to the 390 please
There might be something on this tune coming up shortly.
@@ackodrive I jus want validation that I made the right purchase back in Sept '23🤣
Launch control too 🔥
Yeah but it isn't that beneficial. Doesn't really shoot off. You're better learning clutch control with TC off if you're heading to the racetrack
@@ackodrive I see traction control, launch control isn't really necessary in this kind of engine...
Aprilia came out and stole Yamaha's lunch. Both the Yamaha 300s are now irrelevant at the price they come in.
Wow great job.
Very good quality video..... comparison was on point.
Both of you did great job in presenting.
May be suggest mt03 or r3 for bullet proof engine and Japanese reliability?
Thanks for the praise firstly. More so, paying a lakh and a half more for reliability doesn't exactly make sense, right? Plus when you factor in that the spares will be imported, cost and wait times would be high and only a handful of technicians would be trained to attend to the MT/R3, it just doesn't add up
Thank you for the appreciation :)
@@ackodrive yes make sense, as it is an import ownership cost will expensive.
Every bike is reliable when serviced at less kms
How much for the higher seat?
Around 900
@@ackodrive Only the spacer we need to buy right?
390 justify its price..... It is brutal machine in terms of power.....In all aspects KTM is best.....🔥
If yamaha lowers thir price of mt3 (3.5 - 4 lakhs) It will be value for mony.....It is dual cylinder so obviously it will be higher at price....but not that much higher.....🙏🙏🙏
Hey where did you get the seat spacer for the Duke 390?!
Now available at some KTM service centres, it is the taller seat, the one sold internationally.
Hi could you please share the name of the service centre from which you got the 820 mm seat.
Anybody knows the price?
@@altohrWatch the video brother, they have clearly mentioned the price as 902 Rupees
@@ackodrive thankyou for this information. I subscribed❤
I OWN DUKE 2024 ELECTRIC ORANGE ITS A GOD LEVEL BIKE 0 ERRORS 9 MONTHS AND USING
As always german engineering shows whose the boss. KTM 🙌🏼🙏🏼
KTM engine heating and vibrations??
It doesn't run as hot as the gen 1 or doesn't vibrate as badly as well. But since it is a large capacity high strung single, it is bound to have some vibes and heat
you should have just went into a drag race
Just see the condition of both the bikes after 5 years. That's when you will see the reliability and quality of Yamaha. Ntg much to say as for now.
what about bmwg310r?
Among all the single-cylinder bikes, the KTM 390 Duke offers the best performance, hence it was pitched against this twin-cylinder from Yamaha.
Adding to what Arun said, the G 310 R is a bike that is nearly 6 years old without any major update other than the necessary BS6 ones. So in that sense it is quite like the Yamaha, dated, not quite as thrilling and pricey without packing much features.
KTM Duke 390 anyday ❤❤❤❤
Dont judge the entire yamaha MT series by the mt 03
Mt bikes are insane
True, but in India we only have 2 of them and each one is overshadowed by its full faired sporty R sibling
RS 457 city review...........😊😊😊
Coming soon!
We are still awaiting a test bike from Aprilia :(
2:09 fz25 😁
Hhahahaha keen eyes!
I am a Yamaha fan but accept that 390 is better than MT03....Yamaha needs to do a lot more...
What would you like them to do? What direction should they take? Do let us know.
We all are Yamaha fans and as Jehan mentioned in the end, we need more competition so better products are launched and the consumer is spoilt for choice.
@@ackodriveLocally assembled MT03 with atleast slipper clutch if not quickshifter U&D.
@@ackodriveit is about pricing, if they price it around 3l then it would be considered
@@ackodrive1st is to go for ckd units and bring prices down till 3.5lakhs onroad max
6 lakhs for a black and white screen is a deal breaker
It just doesn't feel special in that sense.
I would have been ok with r3 even with all the missing tech but not having a slipper clutch in 2024 that too at that price is criminal
We at least see the sense in recommending the R3 or say not be too concerned if you were looking to buy one now. Yes, there are compromises but it happens to be a very solid lovely motorcycle that will keep you happy for years. And the lack of a slipper clutch isn't criminal, the gearbox on it is one of the finest. It is just that it is coming in at price where it becomes costlier than an Aprilia RS457 which is offering a far richer riding experience. So yeah, it is sad what the state of the R3 is but the bike remains a beauty.
So MT comes up Empty! Hmmm....
Yamaha and their dealers are high on l don't know what. No test ride bikes, months long or even more waiting period, lena hai to lo attitude.
So share more, we are keen to hear what troubles you've faced with them.
Direct winner ktm Mt is over rated bike
Duke 390❌
Mt o3✅
Mt is empty 😂
Duke,s chapri
390 vs mt03 what a joke. I would say nowadays people only need features in their bike.
Like what? Care to elaborate? Cause while the 390 Duke has a plethora of features, the connectivity technology it's rarely used. So if it is electronic rider aids that you're speaking about, then a 100% yes, that is something a 45bhp motorcycle should have.
Idk why people compare a single cylinder made in india bike to a parallel cylinder cbo unit .
Obviously there will be a huge price difference for not so much performance difference .
You go for the cbo units such as r3 mt03 or ninja 400/500 to be different from the crowd and exclusivity and that premium feel that your bike wont be chaprified .
The performance gains are tremendous when comparing the Duke to the MT. The approach that a manufacturer takes to a segment shouldn't stop you from considering all of the options, right? And in that sense, we had more hopes from Yamaha as we thought it was different from the likes of Kawasaki and Honda who aren't having the best track record with pricing their import bikes.
@@ackodriveThanks that you commented. These woke elitist yamaha kids may understand now that paying higher price for lesser thing is a sign of stupidity not intelligence.
@@droid6759And comparing cbo unit parallel twins to single cylinder made in india bike to satisy your ego that your bike runs faster than the bike which costs 1l more is a sign of what ?
Ig thats also a sign of stupidity and childish behaviour .
Did i say ktm brand is bad ? Or the lc engine is bad ? I said yamaha r3 wont be chaprified which is on the small portion of people who buys ktm and ruined its reputation and not about the bike itself .
You woke ktm duke elitist always thinks that your bike is a superbike when in reality its not . Actually thats the sign of stupidity. And that shows how childish you people are coz no true motorbike enthusiast will put down another bike just to get their own on the top.
If stupidity is rewarded then why stop at r3 . Compare duke 390 with zx4r . Coz both of them are of 400cc .
@@droid6759 And what does comparing ur single cylinder bike made india to a parallel twin cbo unit just to satisfy your ego that your bike is better comes under ? Ig it also comes under stupidity .
Did i say ktm as a brand is bad ? Or that duke 390 as a bike is bad ? NOPE .
No true bike enthusiast will put down another bike just to get theirs on the top which btw is also a sign of stupidity . I never said the duke 390 is stupid . I said the comparison is stupid . People going gee gee gaa gaa over this comparison is stupid that omg my duke 390 beats r3 coz then you missed the point of r3.
Cbo units are made as per international standards. They are not just targeted towards indian market like duke 390 is . If thats not the case then why doesnt ktm makes all their engines in india .
@@ackodrive As long as the approach taken by the manufacturer doesn’t stop you from comparing it and as long as stupidity is being rewarded , why not go ahead and compare duke 390 to another 400cc bike which is ig called kawasaki zx4r .
If you can compare duke 390 single cylinder made in india to yamaha r3 ll twin cbo unit just because both of them are 300-400cc category then why stop the comparison at parallel twin ? Compare it with zx4r as well coz its also 400cc beginner bike just 4 cylinders . Afterall approach taken by manufacturers should stop you from considering all the options right ????
Yamaha India is a big dud.. A good 150cc brand at best 🤷
drac race?
Wouldn't be a fair fight
Lol mt 3 is faster than 390 😂😂
In what aspects? Top speed might just be the same but the acceleration of the new 390 is unmatched by the MT-03.
@@ackodrive MT03 does 180+. 390 barely crosses 170. Torque though is another story. KTM ftw
@@varun1036 KTM's speedo is more accurate, it can do a genuine 170 kmph. R3/MT03 speedo error is huge. 190 kmph on meter is around 170 kmph actual speed.
R3 can do 190 kmph on speedo, mt03 obviously cannot since it's not aerodynamic and is pronto windblast.
@@varun1036 acceleration is everything. you can ignore top speeds because constant 180 on a motorcycle in india is not safe.
@@varun1036watch somes vedio bro, gen 3 390 goes175- 180.
That KTM looks like a plastic toy and that MT03 is not at all worth its price. Better get RS457
Good point, but the RS is also fairly made from plastic. And judging by the delays in production and deliveries, getting your hands on one might just be tricky at the moment
