Baby Gem’s Cries For Help Are Finally Answered

I don't know what's going on out there but baby Gem was rescued by Kat this afternoon after being trapped down a storm water drain.
Gem is the third bat in as many months rescued from a drain and she was named by the wonderful young men who heard her cries for help.
Doing exactly the right thing, these spectacular boys called their parents over and their parents rang our rescue phone for help.
Kat performed a miracle by managing to extract Gem back up and out of the small gauge wire covering which was bolted to concrete.
Dehydrated, cold, skinny and terrified, baby Gem will be the perfect companion for baby Ebony and she is currently resting in a lovely toasty humidicrib with fluids and some warmed goats milk in her tiny tummy.
Please call in any bat by itself through the day as it is in trouble.

I'd be frightened out of my mind, too, if I were stuck in a gigantic water whirlpool. I'd even be so frightened that I wouldn't mind having to live with a furless pink giant henceworth.

I just know that not all animals calm down and let you help them when they'rein trouble, especially when they're tiny and extra vulnerable. But so often, bats will just let you give them a hand once they're pretty sure you aren't trying to stuff them in your mouth. They have that social/emotional intelligence to recognize what's going on, at least enough to make a difference.

Such a little baby bat. She really is a Gem. I'm so glad that she was rescued. I need to see if there is a rescue organization near where I live, so if I or any of my friends ever find a bat who needs help, I'll know where to call. 😻😁😻
I had no idea how beautiful these animals were until I saw your videos. I'm so thankful for the work you do.
My wife and I have been feeding and resucing feral and stray cats for 25 years in Baltimore, Maryland. We didn't seek out being cat caretakers . It just sort of happened. We are very fortunate to have BARCS in Baltimore. They provide health care and free spay and neutering.
My reason for saying this is I have some idea what you the caretakers of these bats go through. It's not just the work and time you put in but how it affects you emotionally. For the viewers of these videos . If you are unable to physically take part in the rescuing of animals. Please donate to animal rescues and programs. It makes such a difference to the rescuers and caretakers to know you care. 😊

Wonderful, spectacular boys indeed, and they will remember this and their pride in saving this helpless baby’s life their whole lives. Also wonderful and spectacular: their parents and Kat. Baby Gem (lovely name for this precious little girl with the shining eyes) is clearly ready to move on with her life. So adorable, loudly demanding more pets and scratches every time you dared to stop. Up the little nose would pop as she looked for the missing hand, and the noise would start. She’s got your number already and knows she’d safe with you. And she likes those scritches.

What a gorgeous and lucky little one! Those boys did an excellent job of naming her and she was lucky that her little pleas for help were heard and not ignored. All things considered she was pretty calm considering the predicament she was in, had to be terrified being so little all by herself so tightly wedged she couldn't even move. @Batzillathebat I am curious since Kat said she wasn't bit by the ants what are the little raised bumps above Gems eyes and around her whiskers?
