The end scene with Thor showing up at their house is probably one of the best cliffhangers a video game has ever done. After a fairly long full campaign and plenty of side quests you see a being that's been spoken of throughout the entire game show up at their own door ready to fight. We all know what's coming, but the anticipation is off the charts at that point. I really hope we can get the full 6 games that the devs want to make to complete the God of War series.
God of War God of War II God of War Betrayal God of War Chains of Olympus God of War Ghost of Sparta God of War III God of War Ascension God of War God of War Call of the Wild They're already at 9 games. What do you mean the 6 games to tell the story?
Tyrese Novak I’m curious too haha 6 more games? Ommggg I imagine the next one will be about Thor and maybe Odin for the third, unless he moves to another realm with new gods and destroys them also hmmm
Cliffhanger? This isn't a cliffhanger, it's a vision fron Atreus. In all reality, a approach similar to this will probably occur. But this really is a tease, not a cliffhanger.
The level of dedication cory barlog and santa Monica put into this is insane to the smallest details like naming blades of chaos grips after one of the goats(Tanngiost) who pulls thor's chariot!!!!!
You have to dig deep into old Norse mythology in order to understand this version of Thor and Odin. Thor was a savage and Odin was even worse at times.
Cody Cigar Wolf Grey might be right but this is honestly just Santa Monica’s take on how the God’s are acting because how else would you do a God of War game.
Cody Cigar The original sagas are still around buddy. The aesir weren’t evil but they weren’t all good either. Most of the religious rites of the Norse were about avoiding their wrath and appeasing them, not out of gratitude so to speak. Thor was definitely known for being bloody and having a temper.
I like that when Kratos first was asked by the spirit to destroy the statue, he was barely interested, but once the spirit told his story about what Thor had done, he was practically eager to break the statue. Subtle, but awesome detail of Kratos showing sympathy for someone who shared in a similar pain as he once did
Imagine in God of War: Ragnarok you get to ride the world serpent into battle against thor while little loki whose probably grown up leads a charge with the giants. (Assuming they can bring them back or some shit) that be hella cool
Odin: "Let's provoke the guy who destroyed the Greek Pantheon. That'll end well." (On a side note, I am curious to know if the Norse god's are aware of what happened to the Greek Pantheon. I mean if Mimir knows about it, I'm sure they do too. Right?)
BAYERN MUNCHEN Kratos Dialogue God of War: AREEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS God of War II: ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS God of War III: ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS God of War IV: BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII God of War V: THORRRRRRRRRRRRRR God of War VI: ODINNNNNNNNNNNN
He admits that for a long time he actually was on Odin’s side and was quote: “fucking excellent” at enabling him. He even says he doesn’t blame Freya for spitting in his face when she revived him
But I agree because of everything he’s not telling them. For instance: Thor’s daughter is the Goddess of Strength and there’s a Vanir god named Kvasir who’s arguably smarter than Mimir, if not equally dangerous. Kratos would want to be prepared for either of them yet they’re in his blindspot. Why hasn’t Mimir mentioned either of them?
There could never be a more epic, more ultimate clash of titans. Both undisputed champions of their own lands, both visceral and truly competent warriors with their reputations proceeding them. Thor vs Kratos has to be done perfectly I can't wait to see what Santa Monica conjures up!
Connor Smith I doubt it just due to the fact that Loki(Atreus) probably won’t be a grown man in the next game. And that fact that Kratos is the main character and the God of War. The Who franchise is about him so I assume itll be him. But never know it might turn out to be Loki
I don't mind really how much this game portrays the Aesir gods as cruel jerks. I love Norse mythology simply because of how many human characteristics and traits the Gods had themselves, and how much they seemed to respect and care for mankind. Especially Thor, who seemed to have a certain soft spot for mortals. We've only learned however that the Giants were bad and the Gods were good through the narrative perspective the mythology tells us. But there are always two sides of every story ever told. God of War takes that other side of the Nordic stories, and gives us an alternate take on mythology, as told through the perspective of the Jotun. Where the giants are portrayed as the shunned victims of the Aesir. It's pretty intriguing, to say the least. And while the personalities of the Gods seems to be generally negative in this version, we have to remember that this is still told in a narrative in which the Jotun are the victims. To them a cunning and wise Odin would mean treachery, deceit and cruelty. A brave and strong Thor would mean bloodlust and rage. Not to mention that we have to have some established reason as to why Kratos would seek to bring down the Nordic pantheon if they were all goody two-shoes, with little to no bad qualities.
Would very much like a source on those other mythology experts. Calling Gaiman and Barlog mythology experts, is a bit of stretch, in my opinion. From what I've read in my studies on the subject there really isn't anything specifying that Thor would be a "bad" guy from an outsiders viewpoint (unless you are a Jotun, of course, due to his unexplained hatred against all of giant-kind). The only real flaw in his personality is that he at times doesn't appear to be quite as intelligent as the other gods, simply because his short temper, that makes him quick to act, but with no time to reflect upon what meaning or repercussions his actions can/will have. And as such appears to be a dullard and/or a brute. But in the end his intentions are solemnly in the interest of protecting Asgard or mankind (or just his own lust for battle and adventure, which true enough would make him an egoist, but then again who doesn't think about themselves every now and then?).
Perhaps the portrayal of the Norse Gods as equally cruel or vain being similar to the Olympians is just touching on a possible universal truth: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Despite the Olympians and Aesir being tougher, stronger, more intelligent and possessing super-natural abilities, they're still beings of intelligence and ego, thus spawns the sense of entitlement and complete lack of empathy when they see themselves so far removed from the existence of the average human, cruelty is common form of upbringing, and might makes right as far as they're concerned.
True. Baldur is actually supposed to be beloved by all but, it wouldn't make a great god of war game. The part that annoys me though is that originally the the greek gods were fine other than Ares (at least their portayal wasn't totally evil) until deus ex pandora's pithos amps up their negative traits to absurd levels. the tragedy was that Kratos basically caused these changes in the gods. Here with the norse they basically start out that way.
Thor talking to Mimir (lets say they stole him from Kratos) in the last game before the final fight and after he lost the battle in the beginning of the 5th game Mimir: So Dead brother huh? yeah that can be annoying Thor: Well he's been nearly dead before, well this time I think it really might be true Mimir: and you said your sister and your da- Thor: Both dead Mimir: Still got a mom though? Thor: killed by Spartan Mimir: Best friend? Thor: Stabbed through the heart Mimir: You sure you up for this particular murder mission? Thor: Absolutely, the rage and vengeance anger lost regret their all tremendous motivators they really clear the mind so i'm good to go Mimir: Yeah but- i mean this Kratos were talking about he is the toughest there is Thor: Well he's never fought me Mimir: Yeah he has Thor: he's never fought me twice * * * Thor: Ya know im fifteen hundred years old, and ive killed twice as many enemies as that and every one of them would rather have killed me but none succeeded, Im only alive because fate wants me alive. Kratos is just the latest in a long line of bastards and he'll be the latest to feel my vengeance fate wills it so. Mimir: *Eye roll*
I don't know why but Kratos going "Reflect Longer" when you actually stop in silence and Mimir starts to talk again cracks me up every time I see it in a clip.
Jormungandir traveling back through time to before his birth should be considered rather mundane by Kratos, seeing as he recruited the Titans that way.
Kratos had to meet very specific condition in order to time travel. The fact that the world serpent was sent back due to the magnitude of his battle with Thor is what threw him off.
Craig Smith II I know that they weren’t the best aesir or half but I kind of feel remorseful for m&m. Reasons being because they were brothers, and they were in constant conflict of being better than their father. Plus the brutal deaths they suffered.
I hope that they’ll be able to connect Kratos and Thor together in some fashion. Cruel reflections across pantheons, ruthless, barbaric and utterly terrifying regardless to whom is the target.
Sirius Lee Thor is basically Kratos if he had followed the gods blindly in the original games I expect their fight to be epic although I'm looking more forward to seeing Odin and actually seeing how his paranoia is portrayed
It's funny how thor gets so dramatic with his hammer, it's likely that the news sent to asgard was " A giant killed baldur" giving thor his confident audacity. Going to be funny when he realizes the hammers worth ****all against a god slayer.
Odin would be terrified of the two and with the start of Fimbulwinter already happening it would make all the Aesir scared besides Thor who would be furious at the loss of his brother and his two sons. Odin might know of Kratos as a Spartan as he knows news beyond Norse, he intentionally makes Thor furious at them to send his strongest warrior to end the current largest threat to Odin
@Arnoldsprod I wouldnt be so sure. Baldr knocked out the world serpent in 3 hits. Thor had Mjolnir and couldnt manage that. I realize that Jormungandr had to be still to keep kratos+atreus safe. But even so, 3 fucking hits? Without any amazing superweapon like Thor has? I think Thor has been overexaggerated just like every God has exaggerated their own power and godliness in the God Of War series. And Kratos will demonstrate it. Violently so
@@SmartAss4123 I think the reason serpent was knocked out quickly cuz he wasn't expecting it. Also probably he doesn't want us (Kratos,Atreus,Mimir) in his belly while fighting him. I mean Freya did say both World Serpent's and Thor's fight was intense and their battle was sensed by everyone and stuff.
@@hmp9444 Well it clearly isn't "good vs evil", because Kratos was one of the most evil, murdurous characters in the franchise. It's more distorted, tellings lessons of power abuse and the human will, how people or gods can choose to use their power for good or ill.
General Sleepy I think the claim that the game “could be morally interesting” is wrong as it already is - I think - morally interesting. It plays on themes of vengeance and redemption through Kratos’s remorse and his fear to expose his past. It begs the question of “is Kratos really worthy to be a hero?” Though the game does portray the gods as pretty evil, would having them be purely good be any better? And if they were morally dubious, it would not play into the idea of “power is corrupting” that, I think, the game is ridden with (in a good way). I remember there was a short interaction where Atreus said something along “it feels good to be powerful” and Kratos, somewhat solemnly, agreed. I don’t think that “good vs evil” necessarily detracts from a discussion on morality. Simply the discussion of what makes those roles, and who is worthy of those roles, is good. Sorry for the wall of text lol.
Because the games aren't meant to be entirely accurate, if you want accuracy then there's dozens of books out there that you can go read. And it's not really a matter of good vs evil either, there's a grey area and Mimir also has his own biases tbh wouldn't be surprised if he twisted Somethings.
Can we all appreciate how vastly powerful some of these characters are? Freya able to restrain two gods (one of them, the un-restrainable Kratos), Thor, able to kill giants but still banished by Freya.
Mimir knew Atreus can handle blood, guts, and dismemberment as he lived in a nearly nomadic lifestyle with his mother and father prior to the story with his mother teaching him to hunt and all the Dragur, Troll, and Ogre he slays with his father. Sex is an entirely different beast to tackle one Mimir may fear Kratos might not want to speak of atleast for a few years
"The tree of life splintered and cast Jörmungandr back in time, even before his own birth." "That is madness!" I don't know why, but that bit of dialogue was hilarious to me. I think it was just the fact Kratos had a genuine reaction to a Mimir story. Lol
They didn't build him up like this only to have Kratos finish him in the first few minutes. Something huge will go down. Thor could possibly end Kratos for good.
Like what Zeus doing in great war with the gods and titans. He created the great powerful weapon that he make it from heaven and earth. The blade of Olympus.
It's not about being humble so much as he's trying to protect his idiot son from getting killed. Atreus always underestimates his opponents or overestimates his own abilities. Kid's got an ego for a brat with asthma.
Kratos: WHO ARE YOU!? Thor: *Shows Mjolnir* Kratos: *Pulls out Blade of Olympus* Thor: *Shivering in fear* I-I-I'm hear to fix your roof, please don't kill me.
So, the conversation between Mimir and the serpent, and the story of Jormungandr being set back in time literally confirms that Atreus is his father? That’s cool as shit
Loki has indeed some weird children but there is actually an explanation why he has a wolf and serpent for a son, kinda... If Santa Monica research Loki Bound very carefully they might figure it out.
Kratos (After Thor knocks Atreus out cold) I'll take that Hammer now. Thor: From my cold dead hands...Spartan. Kratos: Exactly. (Proceeds to lay the smack down of the 8th console generation on the son of Odin).
Mimir: In fact we would do well to sit here in silence for the next few moments and reflect on Odin’s capacity for cruelty.....And so- Kratos: Reflect longer.
Kratos: "WHO ARE YOU!?" Thor: "I am THOR, God of Thunder. I am here to kill you." Kratos: "Do you know what I did to the other Thunder God who crossed my path?!"
""Though my family devoted their lives to worshipping Thor, I've devoted mine to his downfall. And I will start with that statue looming over my father's grave." "Unlikely. You are dead."
"That is madness." Kratos about the World Serpent being sent back in time before his own birth. - Kratos forgetting that in GoW2 he literally stole the loom of fate and traveled back in time... AND even brought all the titans forward in time with him. Pffft... "madness".
@@Devastator21 - He said madness becasue he clearly thought it was silly to think he could be sent back before his own birth. Just like he thinks it is boasting that the World Serpent wraps around the entire world. Kratos has learned to assume amazing feats are boasting of the gods (as he has said a few times in the games) and thus he doubts all he hears until he sees it with his own eyes. My only point was he knows time travel is possible so it seemed odd for him to outright dismiss it. At least that is my take on it.

You have to dig deep into old Norse mythology in order to understand this version of Thor and Odin. Thor was a savage and Odin was even worse at times.
Wolf Gray Wheres a good place to look?
Rusty Gold the internet
Cody Cigar Wolf Grey might be right but this is honestly just Santa Monica’s take on how the God’s are acting because how else would you do a God of War game.
Cody Cigar The original sagas are still around buddy. The aesir weren’t evil but they weren’t all good either. Most of the religious rites of the Norse were about avoiding their wrath and appeasing them, not out of gratitude so to speak. Thor was definitely known for being bloody and having a temper.
AKindAleWar has a good video where he talks a bit about Odin being a dick and Thor being a genocidal bastard.
I like that when Kratos first was asked by the spirit to destroy the statue, he was barely interested, but once the spirit told his story about what Thor had done, he was practically eager to break the statue. From this game’s dialogue, i can solely confirm that Mimir is disingenuous. He knows more than what we all think he does.
No fucking shit he’s the the cleverest man in the nine realms
He admits that for a long time he actually was on Odin’s side and was quote: “fucking excellent” at enabling him. He even says he doesn’t blame Freya for spitting in his face when she revived him
But I agree because of everything he’s not telling them. For instance: Thor’s daughter is the Goddess of Strength and there’s a Vanir god named Kvasir who’s arguably smarter than Mimir, if not equally dangerous. Kratos would want to be prepared for either of them yet they’re in his blindspot. Why hasn’t Mimir mentioned either of them?
@@scoroscopebjd6149 He was about to in one of the boat scenes but I think Kratos cut him off before he could mention the daughter's name.
What does Mimir have to gain from lying? Kratos and Atreus are the only people that he could possibly have left

Adidas Boy well in norse hes just warriorish
But he cared about mortals lol
DrunknHick but there are some versions which describe baldur as a war type god so they may have gone with that version

That's alot like how the gods are in the mythos. They aren't perfect or infallible. They're just as weak in their humanity as people are.
It begs the question of “is Kratos really worthy to be a hero?”
Though the game does portray the gods as pretty evil, would having them be purely good be any better? And if they were morally dubious, it would not play into the idea of “power is corrupting” that, I think, the game is ridden with (in a good way). I remember there was a short interaction where Atreus said something along “it feels good to be powerful” and Kratos, somewhat solemnly, agreed.
I don’t think that “good vs evil” necessarily detracts from a discussion on morality. Simply the discussion of what makes those roles, and who is worthy of those roles, is good.
Sorry for the wall of text lol.
Almost every reply on this is a fucking essay
Because the games aren't meant to be entirely accurate, if you want accuracy then there's dozens of books out there that you can go read. And it's not really a matter of good vs evil either, there's a grey area and Mimir also has his own biases tbh wouldn't be surprised if he twisted Somethings.

Loki has indeed some weird children but there is actually an explanation why he has a wolf and serpent for a son, kinda... If Santa Monica research Loki Bound very carefully they might figure it out.
N Z can you tell me?
+Gamer 1870 Lokis race come in all shapes and sizes but they are all gigantic.
N Z he also has an eight legged horse child, but he’s not the father
i dont get it, i mean, atreus is younger here
how could he have son?
time travels?
Kratos (After Thor knocks Atreus out cold) I'll take that Hammer now.
Thor: From my cold dead hands...Spartan.
Kratos: Exactly. (Proceeds to lay the smack down of the 8th console generation on the son of Odin).
Eh Loki should be the one to take down Thor.
+Meshifuari Arimota Maybe he'll deal the finishing blow somehow, but I for one want to beat the shit out of him as the God of War.
Cliché
I personally think Thor will kill Kratos and Atreus's story will unfold even more
U just commented the same shit on 5 other god of war videos wtf
Mimir: In fact we would do well to sit here in silence for the next few moments and reflect on Odin’s capacity for cruelty.....And so-
Kratos: Reflect longer.
"Reflect longer."
That took me so off guard.
Kratos: "WHO ARE YOU!?"
Thor: "I am THOR, God of Thunder. I am here to kill you."
Kratos: "Do you know what I did to the other Thunder God who crossed my path?!"
Zeus Is the God of Skies, not thunder
@@mrthms3247 I know..it's just a joke.
@@mrthms3247 he is the god of lightning, sky, thunder, law, order and justice
@@jezzlewezzle1961 No, Zeus Is only the God of lighting and sky, he is the King of Gods..
@@jezzlewezzle1961 And Odin is the God of War, wisdom, poetry, and magic, and he is the father of everything
Can we all appreciate that "Oh shit that was you guys" line? Literally perfect
World Serpent: Oh hi dad.
Mimir: Spoilers, brother!
Even though i like the Thors design in Ragnarok but i like the God of war Thor design more because he looks more intimidating and frightning
I agree
""Though my family devoted their lives to worshipping Thor, I've devoted mine to his downfall. And I will start with that statue looming over my father's grave."
"Unlikely. You are dead."
I laughed so hard at that line
“Looks like Thor cut him down to size”
“It’s what he does”
"That is madness." Kratos about the World Serpent being sent back in time before his own birth. - Kratos forgetting that in GoW2 he literally stole the loom of fate and traveled back in time... AND even brought all the titans forward in time with him. Pffft... "madness".
I think kratos said madness because he didn't know or how thor hit him so hard he went back in time
Your nickname fit to yours lmao
@@sakayuuto5076 - Your English is broken.
@@PartStupid at least you still get offended...
A pantheon *exists*
Kratos: I'm about to end their whole reign
Lmaoaoao 😂
It seems I have a stake to slam.
Love the way Mimir tells these stories, I can easily visualise them from what he says, the way he speaks and his voice also make him really interesting to listen too, could listen to him tell tales of Odin and Thor all day
Thors famous last words: "Hammer time..."
When you think about it, Thor in this game is like a norse version of the old Kratos during his time as the God of War.
Chandler Shepard not even close
@@catlover7466 Kratos Had very good reasons to be an asshole. Not evil, but an extreme asshole. Thor is just evil for no other reason than the fact that he lusts for power.
@@doomslayer4786 As far as we know.... up to now..
cat lover very close. You’re tripping
He’s like a Kratos that remained loyal to his set of gods rather than overthrowing them.
It's crazy now knowing that, Thor was always just doing what Odin wanted, and was drinking his pain away so he wouldn't ponder on any regrets. All just for Odin to never even appreciate all Thor did in his name
Kratos bawled with the name of his lecherous master.
And it was Thor's role being manipulated by his father's selfish deeds
