Mimir is by far one of the best things to be added to the franchise. His stories never failed to keep you entertained and intrigued, and his presence is weirdly comforting if that makes sense
I really like having him in these games. I think he provides an interesting balance between Kratos and Atreus.

Without him it would just be grunts from kratos and Loki trying to ask a few questions every now and then. The mimir is very much needed. He is indeed part of the best thing about that game.
@@scorpio34ish Stupid bait...
I mean when Kratos claims fate is a lie he speaks from experience. He literally killed the fates and rewrote the events of his death in order to avoid it
But he also fulfilled the prophecy
@@josegallardo7634 I guess what an individual think his fate is will probably be wrong, but the prophecies always get fulfilled in GOW.
Everytime kratos teaches Atreus he speaks of experience
Technically resorting in him becoming immortal or maybe living twice or even 16 times his normal life expectancy which probably doubles seems as he’s a god so either 4 times his normal age or a staggering 32, and btw there’s was about 1% maths in this and the other 99% was al high
@@josegallardo7634 did he? The prophecy did not say that kratos would kill the gods it said that a mortal would strike at the gods for all we know kratos prevented that prophecy by killing the gods himself wich would explain why the whole world went to shit with both gods and mortals dying and only some hope left
Mimir: for there's nothing in nature so reviled as a child who kills their parent.
Kratos: * cough *
Well played, sir
to be fair, Kratos and Zeus didn't have a whole lot of bonding time
Marta Perek-Blose To be fair Zeus was over come by paranoia and fear. Not to mention Zeus trying to kill Kratos and his betrayal... and Kratos was the God’s puppet and had everything taken away from him... so yeah, nothing is fair.
@@user-vr5zk9ox8d yeah you are right, in fact this game may seem silly for kratos be a father, but the dinamism between the old kratos and new one in order to father Atreus correctly is fascinating. Although they keep saying he is Lokir, i believe there is a difference in how the story tells everything. Its a timeline altered by kratos himself. Meaninh that how did things will played out may depen on the altered everything. After all Atreus is being fathered by Kratos not Odin, taught not to kill if unnecesary by a godslayer.
Zeus story is what happens when a cycle is created. Cronos chop his father balls off, Zeus got powerful imprison thr other titans Gaea included, and open cronos belly to get his siblings back. And kratos well beat the crap out of Zeus siblings, caused an apocalypse and destroyed Zeus on all possible dimensilns and planes. Yeah you reap what you sow i would say, also should i say because everything that happened to kratos he ended up with no family, meaning that by going away from Greece he created a new life. I hope the next GOW is not a prequel where Krstos falls in love, cuz thats gonna break my heart.

I like how Kratos says the World Serpent traveling back in time is ridiculous despite him fighting the Fates on top of the sword he used to kill Aries as past him was killing Aries.
Yeah, but he used a tool to do so, Thor just hit the Serpent so hard he was flung back in time, a little different circumstances.
@@edwardarroyo884 yeah but considering it was near Yggdrasil, and Thor, Mjolnir and the serpent are imbued with magic, it's not hard to imagine it wasn't just tremendous physical force that distorted the space time.
Still, the way it was done was on accident, and was quite different than how Kratos did it.
@@edwardarroyo884 However after all the things Kratos has wintnessed he could be a little more open minded
@@andresneira637 I agree, I find it kind of funny he can't believe how big the World Serpent is, or about how he went back in time, yet he has done so before, and fought things that are extremely large as well, not as big as the serpent, but still. Maybe he is pretending, so Atreus doesn't think that he has done things like that before, as he did say that before reveling to him what he really was, but who knows, maybe he's just not open minded.

The thing I like the most of Mimir’s tales is that you can have Kratos sit there and listen as if he’s enjoying those stories like a kid in kindergarten. I never interrupted Mimir, always made sure he finished his tale before I docked.
From what I've heard, even if you do dock, the game will let him finish before allowing you to get out of the boat.
Nah when you dock he says araight ill finish this story later

Mimir is a brilliant addition to the game because you’re able to learn and listen to the lore of the game’s world without having to go to a external source such as TH-cam or online forum and such. It’s such a joy listening to Mimir tell stories while exploring in God of War.
Plus it gets people Interested in Nordic mythology and stories, outside of the MCU
It also makes the game more enjoyable ngl I love the dialogue that makes the games less quite
Mine stopped sharing stories he just always ask me if I found anything interesting forcing me to open up the book and read the context myself
Yes, I've been thinking about that, actually. It definitely also adds depth and meaning to the game and lets you conceptualize events which you may not come to play (e.g. Mimir's past with Odin) but still feel as though you experienced. It hits different to be encountering new creatures and enemies when you've heard in-depth lore behind that.
This game does an absolutely amazing job of building up Odin’s hype. You never see him but you can feel his presence by the way Mimir and Freya speak of him.
That’s why it’s kind of unfortunate how he is handled in Ragnarok, in 2018 they really make it seem like Odin is more obsessed with figuring out how to expand his reach to all the pantheon worlds, and like his main goal isn’t just to avert Ragnarok but manipulate it into his favor, in Ragnarok they just made him want to know where he goes after he dies
@@RojoTrueShinobi I say there’s nothing really wrong with him in Ragnarok.
Considering that these stories Mimir tells took place centuries ago and Mimir was trapped in that tree for 100+ winters. So it’s fair to say that Odin grew as time went on.
Not to mention Odin’s character in Ragnarok is more close to mythology with his cunning and disguises to walk amongst men. After all, Odin is seeker of knowledge above all when you consider his eye and the lengths he went to know the knowledge of the world.
@@RojoTrueShinobi the only thing I was really dissapointing was his design they made him look like a white bald old man crack head from the 7 Eleven gas station corner askin for change.

So fun fact for anyone who missed it:
Mimir is actually a celtic faerie named Puck. A mischievous but helpful forest spirit whom is sometimes interpreted as a Satyr/Faun which could explain the horns that he bears. Its said that Puck aka "Robin Goodfellow" helps those in return for good deeds or favors such as Kratos severing his head and freeing him from Odin.

And if I remember correctly, Mimir said he served as an unofficial jester for the faerie king Oberon
@@jmra99 whilst the game keeps true to Mimir's more conventional backstory, of being a God of wisdom and being beheaded and kept as a knowledge dispensing head, they still change a lot of key details, as such his origin is that he was once a Celt God and traveled north to the Norse lands. They even change other things like Frigg not properly existing and being just a nickname for Freya, Loki being a kid and Kratos entire existance in the grand scheme of things

Kratos you have no right to judge or say that's crazy. (Unless he's trying to cover up the fact he's done that, okay than.)
I think it has more to do with the method involved. Kratos went through time after beating the Fates, The Serpent did it through an intense fight with Thor
The Serpent went through time DURING his battle with Thor - Kratos went through time AFTER his battle with the Fates
@@Cruddy129 Yes, because going threw time before or after a battle is the issue here. I know they went threw time sort of differently but both Kratos and The Serpent STILL went threw time. It kind of doesn't matter if it was during or after a battle.
Unless Kratos is a big stickler for that detail. Than that just makes it even more odd to me.
Ultrabot Ultimus
But Kratos went through time at his own will
The Serpent literally got his ass kicked so hard he went through time.
I noticed that too. I think maybe he’s referring to the world serpent going back “even further than his birth”. When Kratos went back in time it was to moments of his life that he already lived through, and were pretty recent at the time.
People wondered why a Scottsman was the narrator for the game (in the trailer).
Well, that's because he is scottish. When they find a Sgian Dubh he says it's a weapon of his homeland.
Alibey Bal yeah, doesn’t later on he pretty much say he’s actually Puck?
I mean I figured asmuch when he claimed he served a faerie king of the forests who was an asshole. Sounds like Oberon to me!
@@mistertaz94 hope oberon isn't still pissed at him then, cuz if so mimir didn't run far enough.
The most interesting thing about hearing about all these mythological stories is not just that they are all fascinating but most of the time they come from people who were actually there and lived the legends. In a way I kind of wish we could hear these stories from the perspective of Thor and Odin themselves. How would Odin justify, say the tale of Ymir? How would Thor talk about the story of Hrungnir? Would he lie and say it was a fierce battle or would he own up to the truth and say something like "yeah, don't punch a guy made of stone I still have chunk's or rock in my head"
12:13 It’s funny how Kratos disregards Mimir’s Story about time travel, yet he also traveled through time.
He isn’t saying the time travel is madness he’s pointing out the serpent went back into time because he got hit really really really hard
@@datboy038 Ah, and pulling a magic string that brings you back in time makes SOOO much more sense…
@@kinettleyt5945 It was more than that. Kratos killed the Sisters of Fate and went through a magic portal. A glorified door, but still understandable. Thor hit the Giant Snake so hard, it literally went back in time. That's fucking insane.
I love how everyone is talking about different theory’s to this but...
*Is no one going to talk about Kratos chucking!?* 8:40
Dude there's a comment that has that timestamp.
@@ladyren1575 I will leave this L for him then
@@LXW-Arts ok
Mimir was a fantastic idea for God of War. Traveling in something as slow as a boat can feel slow and tedious. I can't remember how many times I got to where I was going and just sat near the shore to finish hearing the stories.
Kratos: That is madness
Kratos's past: killed an army, killed his family, died and resurrected 3 times, killed all gods of olympus and made the apocalypse start and end and he opened Pandora's box.
15:02
Hróðvitnir, also known as Fenrir, the arch-nemesis of Odin.
Brother to World Serpent and Hel.
Son of Loki.
EDIT:
Yes, Loki is presumably the mother of Sleipnir (Loki denies it and curses anyone who mentions it).
Yes, Loki had two sons; Vali and Narfi, but they are essentially Fenrir and Jörmungandr.
Odin cursed Vali by turning him into a wolf and made Vali (as a wolf) eat open Narfi’s stomach.
Thor then ripped out the guts of Narfi and used them to bind Loki to a rock. The guts of Narfi was turned into a serpent and dripped venom into Loki’s eyes.
That is why Fenrir is Odin’s arch-enemy,
and why Jörmungandr is Thor’s arch-enemy.
Quite ironic to create the monsters of your own doom.
They fuck around with the myths JUUUUUUUST enough to take Loku out of the picture. Notice that no one says why SPECIFICALLY Brok and Sindri made Mjolnir, because the original story involved Loki shaving Sif's hair off.
Wait, Hela is Jormund’s sister? Ffs Atreus is going to be the father of Hel?
It makes sense now that nobody mentioned anyone ruling over Hel and the only other thing you see in hel Is that Eagle of winds
It's confirmed Kratos' grandchildren gonna be consisted of a big ass wolf, big ass serpent, and a dead Goddess.
You're forgetting the 8-legged horse, as well.
@@shadesoul4247 They also left him out of the Skadi story (although you may not want to know how he's involved with that).
13:43 "Remind me to tell you why they call him the lord of the hanged" For a second I thought Mimir was gonna tell us the real reason Freya stuck around with Odin
That would be hung! Come on man dont be that uneducated. Guys with big cocks are hung. Criminals get hanged! Seriously this is basic English grammar. Lol😂😂🤦♂️
All these stories are cool and all…
*BUT BALDUR IS BLESSED WITH INVULNERABILITY TO ALL THREATS, PHYSICAL OR MAGICAL*
Ive been listening to this every night for a while now, it's incredibly helpful for making me fall asleep. And i don't mean that in a bad way. Storytelling has just been a great method of helping me sleep and mimir's character is perfect at doing it
Hearing the boat rowing sounds soothing too. I too had this playing in the background for a couple of nights to help me sleep
Atreus: "So...Dad don't get mad but..."
Kratos: "What?"
Atreus: "I found books about Greek legends."
Mimir: "Oh shit.."
Atreus: "What can you tell me about Zeus?"
Kratos: "NOT your concern boy."
Atreus: "Hades?"
Kratos: "No!"
Atreus: "Aphrodite?"
Mimir: "Oh....I'd like to hear more about her. I may not have a body but hey, an imagination is an imagination."
Kratos: "ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
The fact that this wasn't is the game is a crime
Mimir: The Brain is the largest sex organ after all-
Kratos: One more word head and I’m tossing you in the water!
I can only imagine the field day they would've had recording this as in-game dialogue.
God I wish they put this in the game I would've spat out my water laughing lmao
Omgggggg I am cackling
I can just sleep listening to mimir's tales
I sometimes do
That what I just did lol
I do sometimes as well
That’s what I’m doing now. Lol
I do it every night! Its extremely effective
Mimir is such a great character. His tales might get me into northern mythology. The God of war games are great AF.
I think mimir is saddened by Starkaor’s fate mainly because he was branded a monster and a villain before his death. When in reality it was the man setting the slanders upon his name who was the monster. Even the best giants don’t usually get happy endings, a common theme I’ve found in Norse mythology.
26:49
He was there... imagine seeing two kids helping his dad and having fun, and a few years later seeing one of them getting his face split by a madman from another religion, just to later see his son stabbing the other in the jugular - killing him in cold blood.
Hey......fuck the gods
Aw, you cut out the part after the moment of silent reflection on Odin’s capacity for cruelty where Mimir starts to talk again and Kratos just says “keep reflecting.”
I know it’s a little late for this, but I find it interesting how in some of the stories which initially included Loki, his involvement was completely omitted
I love how Mimir made Odin trip balls and tried to convince Odin that he gave his eye as a sacrifice for knowledge, knowing Mimir he gave a perfectly persuasive sentence with one tiny little detail that Odin caught and used to realize that the "sacrifice of his eye gor knowledge" was a lie, or if he did see into that green crack of knowledge and what not and thats what led him to start gouging his eyes out, it makes sense.
36:17 if you sit "reflecting" for a bit longer mimir goes to speak but kraytos interupts him saying "reflect longer" or words to that effect. i wonder how long you can sit an "reflect" before the interactions stop...
22:42 HAHAHAHA~! I think that's the MOST cheerful and hilarious story I've heard told during the game. Man, that's a good one and to hear Mimir laugh aloud like that is pleasant in and of itself too.
" mimir of the bifrost teats " hahahahaa
Kratos on inside *Laughs a small bit*
I'll never get over how bad ass Kratos's voice actor sounds. Dude is living legend.
I listen to mimir to fall asleep and it’s not that he’s boring he’s just hella comforting to listen to
Man, imagine Mimir and Mr. Gibbs from POTC in the same tavern, the storm of wives tales, old stories, and superstitious shop-talkery would last beyond an age~!
Yeah, at my job, I was listening to Mimir like in a pod cast form. Good way to past the time.
Nickel The Wise Just remember to bring along The Storyteller from the Fallout lore series, and there you go.
Potc?
Pirates of the Caribean
Don't forget about Lantry from Tyranny
I love how the blood, gore, and violent god of wars games became an great insturment for storytelling but still keeping true to its roots. Excellent game development.
My favorite part is how we get to see jormumgdar get sent back in time further blowing kratos' mind.
I love how Alistair Duncan actually pronounces the Norse Gods correctly.
HE JUST CHUCKLED!!!! 8:40 !!
th-cam.com/video/LO7KvauCEbw/w-d-xo.html ----- AND THIS IS FOR YOU GUYS THAT HAVEN'T SEEN HIM SMILE.
He chuckled like this:
😐.....ha
Kratos chuckles for a total of three times during the game. Once in the scene at 8:40, another time when Mimir was making Atreus believe that dragon shit was very powerful (this was during one the three dragon missions), and one last time when they're drinking wine.
Everytime Kratos laughs, a puppy dies
We have witnessed a great thing
11:49
Mimir: "Curious..."
Kratos: "What is it?"
Mimir: "Ooooooh- nothing to be concerned about"
*CRASH*
Jormungandr: is that my dad? Why's he hanging out with Grog from critical role?

"Father, why do we stop the boat right before the dock?"
"Quiet, boy."
Mimir is one of the best written characters in all of gaming and he’s just a floating head
I can’t wait to see how they portray Odin physically
I imagine him as having multiple forms like he does in myth. His God form will be powerful and imposing like Zeus from the past games, but his true "human" form will be a pathetic and deranged old man desperately trying to hold onto power through scheming and manipulation.

The best thing to do on a 2nd playthrough is to never open any of the shrines until you have Mimir. That's because every time Atreus pauses while talking about the shrine, Mimir actually has something to say if he was there. I missed Hrungir's shrine the first time I was in the area and went back after I got Mimir. The story of the shrine played out differently for me from what I saw here.
Damn i gotta do that
Will do
The graphics and the power of the PS4 are absolutely incredible! They still make games that look better that most Xbox games. I couldn't believe how insanely good this game looks, till this day!
That last one.
When Freya gets her wings back, that is how she'll try and harm Kratos.
As it is written.
Can we get a Lord of the Rings game like this? Someone like Gandalf or whoever telling stories about the lore Tolkien created as they travel around? Because this part of the game was pretty awesome, I thought. Being able to learn (even if some was a bit changed) the lore behind Norse mythology through stories to pass the time was great. And Tolkien's own stories have plenty of lore behind them to tell.
John D. Zephyr a idea like that was discarded years ago in favor of shadow of mordor
