For those nervous to do the injection!!!
Switched from Ozempic yesterday. Took my first Mounjaro injection last night. It was painless!!! It took me 45 minutes to build up the nerve to do it because the need is already attached and primed in the chamber. I was afraid it was going to jab me or do it too hard. NO!!! It clicks once to let you know the needle is inserted and clicks when the injection is done. I didn’t feel anything. The needle is very fine and the injection is gentle. The clicks and seeing the plunger move in the chamber is how I knew I received the medication. I also squeeze my fat so hard that the squeeze hurts more than anything else. Lol.
I fast also to help build metabolism and promote weight loss. I just took a FEW BITES of my chicken salad, a few cherry tomatoes and I had to struggle to finish my V8 juice. I normally would eat a majority of the container and all of my cherry tomatoes. I was FULL. I didn’t want to eat anymore. 😮

Can I ask why you switched from Ozempic and how the Mounjaro is so far?
I tried Ozempic a few months ago but stopped after 3 weeks due to low blood sugars. I’m starting again this week and stopping both my oral meds for blood sugar. Hoping that will help and keep my sugars from dropping too low. I asked my Dr today about Mounjaro instead and she said she isn’t prescribing it yet.

I started around the first week of October/last week in September. Last Sunday I had lost a total of 22 pounds (started at 2.5 mg, now up to 5 mg). I do not have the same relationship with food I used to have. I can leave stuff on my plate now. I do sometimes need an anti-nausea pill, but not always. I probably eat once a day (with a light snack in place of dinner sometimes), take a multivitamin, and drink plenty of water. The occasional nausea is worth it. I’m already fitting into stuff that was too tight a couple of months ago!

I got sick back in March where I didn't eat for a week. In April I saw my doctor about getting back on phentermine (Adipex). Since then my wife and I have lost almost 100 lbs. between the both of us. Well I am on a two week break of phentermine because my blood pressure spiked but my doctor prescribed me Mournjaro. Its on order so hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Unlike these drugs, diet and exercise are key to making these things work. Cut out as much junk food as possible. Cut down on carbs. The most important thing to do is cut out pop (or soda for those who call it that). Sugary drinks will definitely packed the pounds.

      Hi Jeff
I think I understand what you mean. If you’re A1c has dropped whilst on insulin below target levels and the only thing that has changed is your weight e.g. same insulin dose but lower A1c. Then the risk is hypos if on insulin. So step 1 is to reduce the insulin.
Then you keep lowering the insulin and see how that effects blood glucose levels day to day. If the reduction causes high glucose levels or an increased A1c then you need insulin. If you continue to hypo or have low A1cs (likely hypo range) you repeat the process.
However, if your A1c is in target range with insulin then you probably can’t stop insulin at that point
But the point is - yes if you lose weight - insulin doses often come down and some people are able to stop depending on the individual 👍

If the medicine make you not eat, vomit, and nauseated, then you are pretty much starving yourself. Why are most doctors against ppl doing the One Meal A Day fast when this med doesn’t even allow people to really eat. Maybe I am confuse but I thought if you eat under 1200 calories you are in starvation mode and will slow down your metabolism( according to some drs.) So is it different because the medicine causes slow digestion? I have a GLP-1 Ozempic but is reluctant to administer it because I see the needle. I thought it was like my diabetes lancet where the needle is not seen and you just press the button.

    • @diabetesdietguy
      @diabetesdietguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Trina
No this isn’t a starvation diet. Nor is 1200kcal starvation but it’s a low energy intake.
If you’re vomiting you should stop the meds. Most people do not get the severe side effects you describe.
I think the main difference is when someone follows a lower kcal diet without a GLP-1 they are fighting hunger and essentially the drive to eat. So it rarely is sustainable long term.
What this does is remove the biological driver to eat too much. Which is a good option for some people and makes it more sustained. The diet you eat should still be nutrient rich.
But my preferred option as a dietitian is to always eat healthy and exercise regularly without the need for meds
But for a multitude of reasons, lots of people can’t follow that route. In which case, helping them lose weight and for the most part - simultaneously treat their diabetes - is better than not doing it.
A few diabetes meds like insulin or sulphonylureas treat glucose levels but make you put on weight with no other additional benefits. So long term the diabetes will likely actually get worse metabolically
Whereas meds like GLP-1 and SGLT-2 inhibitor’s help you lose weight - so treat the underlying cause of the diabetes so it gets better and have additional benefits like CVD and renal protection.
So if you’re choosing a med, these are probably a better option longer term than other options. So I can see why they are widely used.
