Tirzepatide (or Mounjaro) for Weight Loss: Rapid weight loss but is this lifelong therapy?

  • Tirzepatide is a new injectable medication that results in substantial weight loss over 72 weeks of the trial. What is the risk of rebound weight gain if medication is stopped? I review the SURMOUNT-1 trial published in the NEJM. New telemedicine site for weight loss treatment by physicians and APP providers may help patients having a hard time finding local providers to prescribe weight loss medications. www.joinmochi.com

I scratch my head when I hear practitioners fret about the possibility of someone having to take these peptides long term yet don’t blink at the same person having to take Metformin….or a blood pressure med or a cholesterol meds for life. Something seems odd about that…..

Thank you for your video. I began using Mounjaro (marketing name for Tirzepatide) 2.5 mg on June 29th. I realize your studies begin with the 5 mg dose. I have lost 11 pounds and see my physician in late September to see how my blood numbers are doing. My glucose and cholesterol numbers were ridiculously high and this injectable was prescribed to try and address both of those issues with the side effect of weight loss. The drug essentially suppresses my appetite and provides a sense of fullness on very small amounts of food. I am exercising approx 60 minutes daily. While I am curious to know how my blood is doing, this medication has not resulted in any significant side effects at all. This is my personal story, but thought I'd share with others.

As far as lifelong therapy...I'm okay with it. I would have been on Metformin for the rest of my life. As this becomes ubiquitous, the price will come down. If I go off of it, my pancreas will go back to it's inferior performance, blood sugars will build up, fat will be stored and metabolic syndrome ramps up. So, our bodies thru genetics HAVE BETRAYED US.. I'll be on this for a long, long time.
