I was 13 and my older brother who was my inseparable best friend throughout our entire childhood was 16, so we had already had so many incredible gaming experiences playing things together our entire childhoods. We drove to the nearest mall where the closest EB games was, filled out our preorder card, two controllers and 3 games: Tony Hawk 2x, Dead Or Alive 3, and a brand new IP we'd never heard of called Halo. When the preorder came in, it was on a school night mid week. We rushed straight out to pick it up after school, and came straight home from picking it up to finally check it out. We played DOA for maybe 3 minutes before immediately turning that garbage off, and played Tony Hawk for a few hours which ruled. After getting bored with Tony Hawk eventually in the evening, with our parents sitting on the couch watching, we both sat on the floor in front of the tv and turned halo on for the first time, with the lights off, everybody focused and ready to see what this new game was. I will never, ever forget hearing that intro music for the first time, seeing that opening screen, and looking around at everybody, realizing that we were all collectively thinking "something major is about to go down..." We ended up staying up all night playing it, pulled an all-nighter, and our parents let us stay home from school the next day to finish the game. When we beat it, I cried. It absolutely smoked all of us. That first time playing through the first halo game is an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life, and an experience I have been able to replicate very, very few times with other games.

What a terrific job the Danish National Symphony has done bringing Gaming music to a professional level. It ha done the same with the spaghetti westerns and other movies.
Why don’t we ever realize how important some things are until they’re gone? Halo was a larger part of my life than I ever really knew. This is wonderful.
“Hey” “Yeah?” “You ever wonder why we’re here?” “It’s one of life’s great mysteries isn’t it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don’t know man, but it keeps me up at night.” (Both stare at each other in silence) “...What?! I mean why are we out here, in this canyon?” “Oh. Uh... yeah.” “What was all that stuff about God?” “Uh...hm? Nothing.” “You wanna talk about it?” “No.” “You sure?” “Yeah.”
It is because this entire arrangement was done by our national television and orchestra. A part of our taxes here in Denmark goes to things like this, which also makes the tickets quite cheap so everyone can enjoy classical concerts. I was at the concert, and I remember paying about 30 dollars for a ticket. The recording is done by the national television.
I love how they progressed through all three key iterations of the main scores. This is a masterpiece. By far the best live composition of any of the halo music.
I first played halo in 2001 when I was 6 years old. I am now 28, grieving the death of a loved one, and this video just made me cry uncontrollably. Beautiful.
I watched and played this with my brother who was 6 years older than man me at the time I was 5 when this released. Sorry for your loss. What a beautiful game it was when released. It still is.
I heard it as Fu-fu-fu first. And I was thinking thats what all the humans with stutters thought of the first time they came across the Covenant or the Flood.
This is very funny because in my school, my classmates actually sang this in the bathroom. They were not singers, so it was not perfect, but the intention was there.
@@festus0976 well sci fi, has always been the basis of the future... sci fi predicted things such as cell phobes, tablets, wi fi, flat screens, holograms etc etc
Lots of great memories playing with friends online while growing up. Halo had a big impact on all of us. Still feels weird to cry over this though haha
I really love how accurate this is done! Sounds just like the original versions. That's really rare if you already know several orchestral game concerts. They always seem in need to add their own style. But this here is brilliant, congratulations! And a big thumbs up to the guys responsible for the recordings, great sound quality. E: Ah that's Eimear Noone, the conductor of the Zelda 25th anniversary / Symphony of the Goddesses concerts!
I grew up on this music, and over the past decade have continued to listen to the original trilogies soundtracks quite regularly. Love Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori's work to no end! 0:00 to 2:35 is the weakest part of this composition, being the iconic Halo Theme MJOLNIR Mix from the Halo 2 soundtrack, but the band certainly did add in their own style with several different instruments that were never in the original pieces (the guy banging on the sheet metal stuck out like a sore thumb), and the drums don't sound right either, like they're playing an entirely different beat then what they should be. The guitar has also been considerably toned down for the majority of the track, though this is understandable as I imagine it would be rather difficult to perfectly recreate Steve Vai's amazing work in the original piece. 2:35 to 4:00 is the first minute and a half of the Halo 3 soundtrack's track 'Behold a pale horse', and I would say is the strongest piece they played here. Unlike the theme before, it is indeed extremely accurate and spot on, only thing is the strings section sound slightly weak compared to the original. 4:00 to the end is from 1:08 onward of the Halo 3 soundtrack's track 'finish the fight', paying homage to the legendary E3 2006 Halo 3 announcement trailer where the song played along with the dialogue that was spoken. Again, sounded like there was a few instruments in this piece that were not present in the original, but everything else sounds on point. The woman who spoke Cortana's dialogue spoke the lines slower though then in the E3 trailer, just enough I think for it to be noticeable and throw off some of the people here in the comments section. Overall the Orchestra did a good job, and it sounds close to the original versions, but I wouldn't personally say they're 'just like' them. They did far better work when they played the dollars trilogy themes IMO. I'd also say this doesn't quite do a great service to the given title 'Halo Trilogy' when it's two tracks from the third game and one from the second. As great as the MJOLNIR mix is, I think they would've been better off playing the original Halo CE theme first, followed by 'the last spartan' for Halo 2, and finally 'finish the fight' as they did for Halo 3.
@@Lanthire942 The only "real" flaw I heard in this was the interpreted composition of the third piece (Finish the Fight). There's a half-tone difference in the piano (and the rest of the orchestra following) which is not easily heard, but it breaks with the scale it was originally composed in. It can be heard at the second accord being played starting at 4:10 - While it can be heard clearly here, it can be difficult hearing the difference when listening to the original piece. However, you can hear the same accords through many of the original works (notably "One Final Effort," "Finish the Fight" and "This is the Hour" ), and can be *clearly* heard at the start of "Keep What You Steal." Listen specifically for the second accord being played. The "bass" note in the second accord is a semi-tone lower than presented in this symphony Despite this relatively small and concealed flaw, this is an incredible symphony and the orchestra did an amazing job portraying the Halo Trilogy's (or two last games') music.
Very impressive how all the musicians were able to keep a straight face while performing. I would've been crying tears of joy performing this masterpiece. For me halo 3 is the greatest game ever made
Halo and Lord of the Rings are two soundtracks I regularly listen to and still get the mother of all goosebumps even all these years later. They NEVER lose their impact and are a testament to the power of music! Marty and Michael created a part of my childhood with qhat they made, as did Howard. True masters of their craft!

This fills me with some much joy from my teen years. I'm 31, and this brings me immediately back to December of 2001. Christmas morning. That feeling the music gives you is rare. It's all-encompassing. It's awe inspiring. It almost has no business bring this good. Who knows what the future holds for the Halo franchise, but let's get this clear: The music will be forever cemented as some of the best(if not the best) in the business.
Must be the 40th or 50th time listening to this. I just find it incredible that this..... this masterpiece was composed for a GAME...... how lucky we were, nothing since has even come close

Halo relied on music to tell the story more than almost any other game I can think of. I think it's a huge part of the reason we look back on it so fondly.
And still listen to it regularly, most game music doesn't maintain it impact this well so many years later, Halo is one of the increadible few
I think another games that do this wonderfully are the first 2 fallouts, each OST can tell you so much about the place you’re at by just the sounds
Skyrim would be another.

What a terrific job the Danish National Symphony has done bringing Gaming music to a professional level. It ha done the same with the spaghetti westerns and other movies.
Being Glaun Who cares? They still play Halo though.
Why did you say that? has somebody complained about it?

Why don’t we ever realize how important some things are until they’re gone? Halo was a larger part of my life than I ever really knew. This is wonderful.
100% this song makes me so emotional now haha love it!
Halo ain’t gone. The community and games are still here.
“Hey”
“Yeah?”
“You ever wonder why we’re here?”
“It’s one of life’s great mysteries isn’t it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don’t know man, but it keeps me up at night.”
(Both stare at each other in silence)
“...What?! I mean why are we out here, in this canyon?”
“Oh. Uh... yeah.”
“What was all that stuff about God?”
“Uh...hm? Nothing.”
“You wanna talk about it?”
“No.”

“Yeah.”

Maybe the greatest quality Halo concert on TH-cam
no, because i don't want no more tears! (it was fantastic)
Didn’t knew takumi liked halo...
@@alb1rdy547 thx for the info
1:31 in the meantime, on the background, we can see agent 47 infiltrated in the orchestra trying to get closer to the target without beeing spotted
I love how they progressed through all three key iterations of the main scores. This is a masterpiece. By far the best live composition of any of the halo music.
this song bring back the good old daays
I legitimately almost cried. And that never happens to me listening to music.
I did cry and it was weird because it happened so sudden, I’ve never cried so suddenly and especially not about music

More than any entertainment medium, games make the player FEEL something. Each playthrough is unique to each player and yet a collective experience.
2:35 you can see the conductor’s major evil eye to the string player who came in a bar too early 😂

I know that the "Finish the Fight" score was released for the public. I remember seeing it back then.
@@Lanthire942 This commentary is really spot on. Excellently written!
@@Lanthire942
The only "real" flaw I heard in this was the interpreted composition of the third piece (Finish the Fight).
The "bass" note in the second accord is a semi-tone lower than presented in this symphony
Despite this relatively small and concealed flaw, this is an incredible symphony and the orchestra did an amazing job portraying the Halo Trilogy's (or two last games') music.
Very impressive how all the musicians were able to keep a straight face while performing. I would've been crying tears of joy performing this masterpiece. For me halo 3 is the greatest game ever made
