    I was recently gifted a Minox 35gt and I just wanted to thank you quickly, this was by far the most succinct and informative video on this camera that I could find. Thank you for making it!

    Interesting review. The strong point of these cameras, besides the light weight and small size of course, is the Colour-Minotar lens ( when Germans use the prefix of colour in the lens name, it usually means it is multi-coated and well corrected for colour reproduction ). It is a brilliant little lens. The camera is not a range finder but uses ' Zone Focusing '. If set to 25 feet ( 8 meters ) @ F8, the sharp zone of focus, calculated for a max print size of 16" viewed @ 12", is from 13 feet ( 4 meters ) to infinity. For smaller size prints, up to 10" @ F5.6 the focus can be set to 7 meters. Exposure compensation can be achieved by altering the ASA dial to suit. The weak point of all 35.... series Minox cameras with the exception of the late models, are the electronics. They are weak, particularly the capacitors. So buy with caution as they are not really repairable. Thanks for this review.

    I came late, but, is it possible to rewind film half-way? I press rewind release button, but turning crank clockwise does not do it, it tightens, and when I release crank, it turns buy itself several times and stops.

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know there should be no reason why the rewind stops if you have pressed teh rewind button -- all cameras with rewind button let you rewind film half=way -- there may be a 'Jam' in the film cassette slot.

    You are a delight, Peter. Question: Which is smaller? The Minox or the Olympus XA?
    Shame the Minox doesn't have a rangefinder. I don't know how anybody gets anything with a zone focus or using distance scales. I'm a horrible estimator of distance! Well done. Love your photos.

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hallo and Thanks for kind Comment ! Well -- I reckon the MINOX is smaller than XA-- I have an XA2 so can compare -- with a 35mm focal length you get good depth of field so that is why there is no rangefinder.
      Keep Snapping !!! ----- Peter

    • @TheBerkeleyGang
      @TheBerkeleyGang 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will do.
      I think the XA-1 is the same size as the XA. Probably a lot of the same die work.
      Cheers mate!

    • @qualo99
      @qualo99 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minox is smaller, not sure about different models. Love the XA2, so want one of these too for the aperture control.

    • @jporkchop
      @jporkchop 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're pretty close in size, by all means have one of each if you can! Zone is pretty forgiving on the Minox, though, you can either guesstimate, or another trick is to set for a distance you are comfortable with, then shoot when your subject is close enough. Much faster than opening the camera, guessing, then hoping the subject is still there

    • @dreamdiction
      @dreamdiction 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The range finders are rarely accurate so it was better to practice estimating distance, only the first 12 feet matter.

    Singing in camera reviews should happen more often☺ . How does this comprae to an Olympus XA2 for image quality? Obviously more accurate focusing with this and they look a bit smaller in real life. They seem more breakable.

    • @theoldfilmbloke
      @theoldfilmbloke  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for kind words -- well-- the results from the XA2 were mainly taken by my Son -- he got sharp pictures in a trip to Germany years ago and I have done a few B&W prints from the XA2 -- I would say the Minotar lens is slight;y sharper for B&W film -- i did a 16x12"" Competition print from a Minox negative and got an award at Brentwood Photographic Club once.

    • @maryaclara7771

      Yes, full frame refers to the size of the sensor (film in this case), which is 35mm film (24×36mm).
