Great job Andrew!! Ellen Alaverdyan (bass) is 9, YOYOKA (drums) of course is 12, if I remember correctly Mateo (guitar) is 16 and Eva (vocals) 17. As I said, this was the first professional level recording session that Eva and Mateo had done. One reason there were 7 takes is that during the first few, they were somewhat confused about the process, and how everything is really done by the recording and sound engineers. Eva, and her mother, were concerned that the drums and other instruments were drowning out her vocals. After the first take, Hovak (Ellen's dad), explained to Eva's mother that she had to listen from the sound booth to get a better of idea of how this was going to sound in the end. About take 4, Hovak took them outside for a meeting, seeing that they were a little nervous and confused, and explained that the only thing they had to worry about is doing their part. And that everything else will be done in editing. Eva was a little nervous because she had only heard about this gig two weeks prior and prior to that had not heard of this song. Had they had more experience I imagine this would have been done in 2-3 takes. Hovak is an awesome musician himself, as well as sound engineer and editing expert. Although this is not his studio, all of the lighting and camera equipment belongs to him and he filmed and edited everything! He has an awesome studio as well at his home. They all got along like they had been best friends all their life. I asked Ellen how much she weighed, I believe it was 54 or 58 lbs...LOL

@@gbulmer It was actually the first time I had been in a recording studio, but it was fun. I'm not a musician, so I can only repeat what I saw, which is what I'm doing here. Hey Byron... Actually it was no rehearsal, but 7 takes, which is still very good for such a young group. This was the first time any of them had met YOYOKA. The others had only played together once or twice. One of the members, I think it was Mateo, said that YOYOKA was the only one that had not made any mistakes. In true form though, being the professional that she is, YOYOKA nailed the first take, and then politely did what she had to, to support the others in the remainder of takes. This was the first professional recording of this caliber for Eva and Mateo. They all did a great job!

The look on your face looking at Ellen (Alaverdyan); priceless☺. Ellen is 9 years old and will be the groove master. She has already been recognized by Bootsy and Maurice (EWF). Hovak, her dad is suprise surprise, also a musician and they have a studio at home. Hovak is a great guy and dad who supports Ellen in the right way. Ellen & Yoyo clicked immediately, they will do more collabs. To make it even more astounding they played this almost without rehearsal. Also Eva & Matteo did a great job. The interview with Yoyoka and Ellen is also very interesting to watch. It shows that Yoyo is doing everything on feel. The support of her hands while talking is so great to see; so genuine! As you can see Ellen loves to have some fun; fearless young lady.

So far, the rhythm section duo have solo stuff available. But the other 2 haven't yet bothered. One way or another they need to do more together, for sure, to be considered serious band material. 🤔I wonder if the guitarist and singer are fairly new , or really new, or other, to the stage, and stage presence, they don't look like they're new, but something is different in them compared to the rhythm section.

I believe the others Yoyoka was playing with were from the School Of Rock, a musical school similar to what the movie of the same title portrayed. In the movie, they worked to compete in the band competition. I think this line up could not only compete in any band competition, but could sell out venues on a regular basis. The only thing missing is enough original material, which is an entirely different skill set. Even Led Zeppelin took many songs from other artist (especially the first 2 albums). They settled many cases in court over this. In an interview, Jimmy Page said that it was his job to change the guitar parts (which he did) and Roberts job to change the lyrics, which he didn't always do. That's what caused the issues he said. I listened to some of the original songs and thought the Led Zeppelin versions were much better. (insert self correcting rant) Anyhow, I hope Yoyoka continues to to produce original material, by writing songs herself, collaborating with others, or even finding a stand alone writer that can produce quality songs. It is important brand yourself by original works. People didn't buy tickets to see John Bonham or Niel Pert, they wanted to see Led Zeppelin/Rush and experience the music they were known for.

I have been following both of them almost since the very beginnings of their respective TH-cam careers & their skills & development were both astonishing. I have never seen anyone at such a young age become as adept so rapidly as Ellen has at their instrument. She's a natural like Yoyoka with great drive like Yoyoka as well. She has also got a great teacher & mentor in her father Novak who is an incredibly talented guitar player & multi- instrumentalist & also has an incredible home studio & is a skilled producer/ engineer as well as video/film editor. Ellen has some other youngsters besides the two on this video that she plays with as well as some older pros. Ellen has also been endorsed/praised by Bootsy Collins, Sheila E., Victor Wooten & Steve Vai & also played live for one song with Vai in Las Vegas! You are right to say that this was phenomenal! Of all the youngsters that I have followed on TH-cam Ellen, Yoyoka & Sina are the most amazing. Yoyoka is one of the best drummers in the world & so is Sina for that matter! Ellen is just a phenom & a joy to watch. Her smile could light up the entire universe I think!

This is like a lecture on rebirth and past lives. I know 60 year old men who yearned all their lives to play drums like that. And then had to put up with reality. Little angel Ellen is bewitching us as well.

Please do Chris Kontos of Machine Head performing "Rage to Overcome " 2020 live drum cam.
Hope you keep climbing with your channel and will see you again someday.

The kids are alright. there is an interview with Yoyoka and Ellen on Ellen’s channel where they revealed after a brief tuning session they launched into the song which was recorded in one (1!!) take. No rehearsals. Ellen is 10 in this video, Yoyoka is 11 almost 12, Singer 14, guitarist 13. The kids are alright. Rock N Roll forever.❤

Small nitpick. Ellen, Yoyoka, Eva and Mateo's video was released Mar 31, 2022. Ellen was 9yo. She turned 12yo a few days ago. You can confirm her age by searching for "Ellen Alaverdyan bass player birthday"

This was great---and the singer was so impressive--full of character and charm ,too !
One request (made a few times)----would love to see a reaction to the lead girl drummer in:
Mt Fuji Taiko Festival, 2011 and 2012 (Hiryu High School) !!------------you'll know who she is, seems referred to as just "the girl in the middle" .

Acts is such an appropriate word eh? That's all so many are today. They are acting the part. They are not playing music. YOYOKA and her recording friends are musicians in the puredt sense.

Everyone here guaranteed a job as a studio musician. Although I hope they all go much farther in their careers (no knock on studio musicians and what an important role they play). I believe that John Paul Jones was a well respected session player before he joined Led Zeppelin. At 9 1/2, 10 or whatever age she is at, Ellen is clearly playing at that level. So impressed with her ability to "discern" the timing of players around her and blend in.

I love it (and it gives me hope for the future) but at the same time it hurts: I can’t play a note and these kids - KIDS! - are fantastic players. I’ll just go back to living my life vicariously through my musician friends.

On Ellen’s channel there is another video like this, called Summer Jam, not with Yoyoka on drums. This time it is Alisaxie Xiaotong, a girl of similar age and comparable drumming skills. Highly recommended!

Favorite comment on this vid (at the wrap of the cover): “This is just the best thing ever!” Had a giggle-mainly bc I agree entirely. As an ‘old’ and a massive Zepp fan, it excites me to see young people learn musicianship and do a killer cover of the best band ever (and not some 3-chord garbage over a stale drumtrack like current top 10’s!) I agree that Yoyo is the backbone and real standout here but that tiny bassist was killing it!

@@AndrewRooneyDrums She began playing for the first time April 14, 2020 ... almost 2 years to the day before this video was posted. You can watch her when she first took up the bass here th-cam.com/video/Lso2Z4f6C2s/w-d-xo.html. BTW, the opening track on that video is The Wrath of the Rising King by Yousician. She recorded it about 16 months after she started playing, when she was 9.
