I have been learning to play the drums for one month. Apart from weekly lessons in a college I hire a rehearsal room for four hours a week and batter away. I have glimpsed how it can sound when it works. This video is absolute brain food and one of the best things ever on TH-cam, and I've watched a few of these. Oh and this song has been one of my favourite Zep songs for decades.

Never ever thought to put audio cues before watching Samus do this on the original vid. The confidence and relaxation that comes with hearing the audio cues vs. straining your neck to see your chicken scratch outline is a game changer. Thanks for reacting to this, Andrew. Keep up the amazing work!
Samus is a real talented guy on the kit, and this video highlights not just his skill, but his ability to fit into a song, with creativity way up the scale. Awesome and tasteful, Bonham would give Samus a high five for this performance.
Random - but one thing I notice is how much you love to mention Red Rocks as your dream venue. I live down the road from Red Rocks and have seen a gazillion shows there (most recently Mastodon with Lamb of God). But, you live in New Zealand which is my bucket list country to live in. Funny how we both revere something about where the other person lives. Drumming bringing people together.
If I may, being a casual first time viewer and all, I would suggest doing one of these on Hiromi's track "Move". Start at 7:15 (of the Universal Music version on TH-cam) if you don't want to watch the whole thing. Pretty darn good.
He got that so c!ose to the feel of the original it was uncanny. If somebody played that version to you blind you'd probably think it was just a different recording of Led Zep. Perhaps the on!y give away that it isn't Bonham is that Samus seems to push the beat a little whereas Bonham dragged slightly in that more bluesy style. Not a criticism btw, because there's nothing here to criticise, just a stylistic variation. Amazing performance and I love his pace notes approach to the arrangement - he's playing by feeling the groove, not aiming to be note perfect. Would be great to hear him taking on jazz and getting a shuffle on.

I love the way that 66samus's video came up as a suggestion after I watched on of your Zep videos... so of course I watched it. But then I got the pleasure of watching it again but this time with YOUR reaction which just added to my enjoyment of it.. so thank you... Kepp on Rocking young sir...!
Glad you enjoyed! 🙏
Samus plays live to whatever people request twice a week on Twitch. You can see how great he is at picking things up and anticipating. He can really do this live, to songs he's never heard before, playing along as he's hearing them for the first time
He's a monster player
100% agreed! 66Samus did his own things.... I've seen this before (the Drumeo video), and it's still a daym thrill to see it on your reaction channel Andrew! -Tnx alot! -KK (guitarist) from Norway
Hey!
Thanks for stopping by!
Still need the interview with you and 66Samus would be drums & humor. This guy.... unbelievable what he does here thats ...no words...
I'm up for it
I saw this a few weeks ago and what a guy to do that without knowing the song and without the drums. Excellent from this Zep/Bonham fan.
Glad you dug it!
This is me reacting to a reaction to a reaction? We’ve reached peak reaction.
Well.
This is me reacting to your reaction.
Of my reaction.
To 66Samus's reaction.
Feel free to react
Not sure how to react to all that. Back to the Rush beat.
So creative, musical, professional!
Insane drumming and one take with cues is mad
Worked incredibly well
I love this man for his immense talent and genuine personality!❤
Been seriously enjoying listening to my all time favorite band through your ears. Really fun to key in on Bonham's incredible musicianship. And 66Samus is A MA ZING!!
So glad to have you along!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums ❤️
I LOVE 66Samus!! Coolest youtube drummer ever!! If you write something on his channel most likely you will hear from him. FUCKING COOL AS HELL!
Love him!
That video was insane. One take putting down his own style and it was amazing. Blown away. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
Thanks for passing on your experience and insight into the different approaches and mindsets to the challenge. It reminds me of Wotld Rally drivers receiving pace notes from a co-driver. You still have to be a phenom drummer to be epic. 😊
That was kick ass.
And very entertaining.
Your reaction as well as his!
Great
Thanks for watching!
dude is stout on the drums. his groove is crazy
Awesome reaction, great choice. 66Samus is really amazing!
He sure is
If you've never heard his sessions with Devin Townsend you're missing some badass drumming.
I need to check it out!
Thanks dude, already watched his video, but you are totally a pro so...same as I thought!!! Thanks for what you do!!!
I’ve been waiting for you to watch this one for a few weeks. Amazing.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Absolutely blown away! He is in the discussion for the greatest drummers!
Yes I saw this the day it came out. I had the same reaction as you did. He was great and a great guy / drummer.
Mind. Blown.
Gavin Harrison also uses vocal cues during his shows with porcupine tree, mostly because they sync up with video
Oh wow!
Also Drew did you notice his half-acoustic/half-electric kit he was playing? Looks like the cymbals are acoustic but everything else is electronic.
it,s kinda cool that no one noticed he's playing a drum tec/ pearl mimic pro set up. Just goes to show how good they sound ! 😀 👍
@@Signia01 He's definitely got the best electronic kit I've ever heard. Whatever triggers are in those things are amazing, and his choice of samples works really well with them.
Yup I meant to try and analyze the set up but completely forgot.
Quite a few guys doing it here locally. Hybrid setup
@@ThaBeatConductor Yeah, not sure what samples he's using in the PMP but the kit is a drum-tec pro 3. I've been using the snare for 12 months now (love it) and going to be getting the rest of the kit later this year 😄👍
One of led zeppelins best.. fantastic drummer.
Also, thanks for the Drumeo recommendation on previous video. Samus actually did a 30-day Double Bass course for beginners when he filmed this one and it was amazing! Helped me SO MUCH! ❤
Thanks for this video! Always a fun watch 😊
The gallup on the double bass is insane, so good
He is one of the best on scene with people like Siberiano.... He's a beast in drums....
I follow him on Twitch and attend his streams on occasion but never knew how good he is!! Fantastic!! I cried how good it was. 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯
Never ever thought to put audio cues before watching Samus do this on the original vid. The confidence and relaxation that comes with hearing the audio cues vs. straining your neck to see your chicken scratch outline is a game changer. Thanks for reacting to this, Andrew. Keep up the amazing work!
I stole that from him for studio session and it is quick!!!
Yup it's super smart
Love how relaxed and confident he is!
This was so fun to watch, I immediately forwarded it to my drum playing son the second I finished watching it. So cool
Loving "the rush beat" and slow down back into verse groove... Mighty.
66Samus is a f******* genius! Nailed it! Great reaction video, Andrew!
First time I watched this, it gave me chills! So good bro...
Watched the original and now watching all the reactions. It keeps getting better. Need a 66Samus version of Achilles Last Stand on spotify.
YES!
12:17 Sammy has an auto immune issue and everyone is very respectful of it and takes care to make sure hes less likely to get sick.
Oh that's so good to hear they took precautions
Samus is a real talented guy on the kit, and this video highlights not just his skill, but his ability to fit into a song, with creativity way up the scale. Awesome and tasteful, Bonham would give Samus a high five for this performance.
Super impressed!
Great point Darren! 🙌
If I may, being a casual first time viewer and all, I would suggest doing one of these on Hiromi's track "Move". Start at 7:15 (of the Universal Music version on TH-cam) if you don't want to watch the whole thing. Pretty darn good.
I’ll have to get on it!
I like to know how he could keep up for 2 plus 3 hrs a night for months on tour , that’s a lot of energy, amazing
Yeah touring is a tough gig
@@AndrewRooneyDrums you commented on Jimmy sweating on Achilles, they were outside in august at Then , the whole band put so much into their shows , Bonham and Jimmy , Keith Richards said he was the most overworked guitarist in rock , that’s what got to Bonham, there’s more to life . Cheers .
