My mom would make this every year before Christmas. When I was 18 and at my first duty station in England, (retired AF also) she made I swear 30-40 lbs. of this recipe, (must have taken her a very long time to make that much) and she mailed this HUGE box/plastic leaf bag full and other assorted goodies to me for Christmas 1980. Needless to say, I was a very popular Airman on my floor of the barricks...I shared with everone and they would come begging for a week or more to get another bowl full of it, they loved it too! She doesn't make it anymore, but I tell her this story quite often, of how she sent motherly 💞 from Iowa to a WHOLE lot of young Airman a long way from their homes.

I made two batches this year and I always add pecan halves in mine! 🤗 I don’t use those flavors but I do use vanilla. Don’t stir it while it’s boiling because it will bring the temperature down. 😬. It’s actually very hot when it comes out of the oven the last time so you really want to turn it out on some wax paper to cool. Then break it apart some and then store it in the container.

My wife makes this, same recipe except the butter flavoring and burnt sugar flavoring. She bakes hers in a long pan, says it's easier to stir. After it's done, she pours in on wax paper on the table to let cool. Then she breaks it up to put in containers. We enjoy your channel.

I've made this recipe for at least fifty years :-) Good call on the air popper and I use a basket strainer with holes large enough to let the clinker kernels fall out to avoid breaking teeth. We keep the popped corn warm in the oven while making caramel, and I also like to add dry-roasted peanuts to the batch. Thanks for making this video so I can share with friends and family.

Yes, they may be larger kernels with the air popper as that's all I use but
my Orville popcorn I think is so dry and is like cardboard to me and I'm
not liking it. I can't say it's because it's old because the date on it is Sept.
of 23! So, I don't know why it's so dry especially when I put on a 1/2 cup
of butter on it! I use the same size bowl is what you're using too. But I
can't wait to try this recipe, ASAP. Lastly minus the butter flavor, and the
burnt sugar flavoring, this is the same recipe on the Old Dutch bag of
puff corn curls! I made that all the time and it is so delicious, and I loved
it because there were no hulls to deal with. Unfortunately, I don't know if
Old Dutch makes the puff corn curls anymore. I'm going to have to do
a google search. Thank you all for the wonderful memories.
