New to your channel here my friend and really was very interesting and fun watching your reaction. I am 64 years old and been a metalhead for many years and will be candid I am a music snob. I can only say in brief there are numerous reasons why Epica is my number one band and for years now they only get better over 21 years of time now and never disappoint somehow. Simone Is the siren of the Earth and one profoundly talented symphonic metal band. They do it really heavy at times and a wide variety of vibe in their music. Just subbed to your channel 🤘🏻
I knew their original version of this song when I first watched the Omega Alive show, and I was stunned at how eerie and more powerful this version felt. This version feels like how the song should have been all along.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Epica. They are a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002. Simone Simons is a classically trained soprano but that only tells half the story. She is a generational talent, her tone sets her apart from the crowd. This was part of a livestream recorded during the pandemic. The entire show is magical. This was the second of two songs recorded as a one shot live take. The other, Rivers, sees Simone singing a capella with choir. I recommend the Skeleton Key from the same Omega Alive show next. Enjoyed your reaction, I hit the subscribe button!
Love how you were blown away by one of my favorite Epica songs. Inspired by the dark German fairytale about the Alder King or Erlking who steals the souls of children who linger to long in the woods by killing them with a single touch. The male voice here is the evil enchanter trying to lure the young traveler to his side with promises of power and tender care by his daughters. Simone has said the song is symbolic of being stuck in a life without a happy ending and how our innocence is taken away from us as soon as we are born.
one of their best ballads, in the original the intro is done entirely by the orchestra, but at the online concert they replaced it with a duet of piano and guitar, which also sounds very cool. In general, these guys can really surprise, both with heavy complex songs, up to death and black metal, and acoustic sketches in the styles of jazz, funk, country and others 😁
So glad you decided to go with this song instead of that Sancta Terra song everyone is asking just because it has Floor in it. Well, If you want some more kickass song from this amazing band, check out “Unleashed” and “Beyond the Matrix” Live at AFAS Live 2023. Pretty sure you’ll looove it!!!
Epica is quite frankly one of the best symphonic metal bands out there. I love the entire Holographic Principle album (where this song is from) and I highly suggest you give it a listen.
The Dutch Epica is named after the album of the same name by Kamelot. While Kamelot is a melodic metal band (which emerged from heavy metal and has an American influence), Epica is a symphonic band (which emerged from power metal and has a European influence). You will still hear the similarities to Nightwish, but they are much harder. There is no folk, less "Disney" and a growler. The band's founder Mark Jansen had previously co-founded After Forever, where Floor Jansen was the singer (the two are not related). In 2002 he left the band and, via a detour, founded Epica with his then girlfriend Simone Simons. The two no longer have a private relationship, but are the two main songwriters. Simone is now married to the keyboard player of Kamelot and has a son with him. EPICA - Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE) Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live
For me this is a way better first song to checkout than "consign to oblivion" .. but on the other hand i'm also just not that much into harsh vocals and when i hear Epica i do it for Simone. But of course the guitar was also great and Isaac way to seldom has moments to shine like this in other songs.

Love the band, hoping for some more reactions. Epica - Ghost in me (live Symfonic Synergy) would be my recommendation 😁.

The Holographic Priciple is one of the greatest albums ever made, definitely in my top 10 albums
Another one Epicafied. Nice work. :)
Epica is just gorgeous.
That's a good rating. More Epica please!
Thanks ❤❤❤
I don't know where Ross went during that performance, but he went somewhere alright.
