Hi! Bloodborne veteran and pianist here. The sound you were hearing in Lullaby for Mergo is a baby carrier swaying and creaking. The boss for that song is Mergo's Wet Nurse, where mergo is essentially a child that is one of the main plot beats in the story. Gehrman's theme, by a wide margin, is the most melodically satisfying and moet closely inspired by real classical/romantic music. Gehrman is essentially your friend throughout the game. He is one of the first people you meet that doesn't try to kill you, and he directs you and guides you across the entire game. Until, at the end of the story, he makes a decision, or rather, makes you decide something, that brings the story to its ultimate climax. Not only is it a conclusion to the story, its two friends trying to spare eachother an eternity of suffering for the other. He sacrifices everything to try to save you. Both of these themes, like most songs in Bloodborne, are boss themes. Then, we have my favorite one of the ones you reacted to. The Title theme. In the soundtrack, this piece is called "The Night Unfurls", which illicits the very apt imagery of the Night being some kind of winged beast that goes out to hunt. Which is interesting, because the game takes place over the course of a single night, where you, the protagonist, are the Hunter, slaughtering the beasts that kick off the plot. Overall, amazing and insightful reaction. I would highly suggest listening to more Bloodborne tracks, as in my opinion, you haven't even scratched the surface of what is in my opinion some of the most important and impactful video game music in modern times. The tragedy of Gherman is that while he is trapped and made to suffer for eternity, he is trying to save us and prevent us from trying to save him, cause to save him we would have to take his place or lose our humanity.
I saw someone else recommend Living Failures, I 2nd that. I also recommend, "Father Gascoigne, The Hunter," and ,"Terror." Both are pretty simple but also profoundly evocative. Finally I highly recommend, "Hail the nightmare." There are also countless others but I feel that these three are often underrepresented in request lists for reactions and I know that orchestral musicians would love them just as well as many of the more popular tracks. =)

@@TeraCMusic I'll sub to check out your next videos. Pone last point regarding Hail the nightmare, it is incredibly unique and avant-garde. It is done as a choral A capella with the main voice reading in a near monotone and the chorus singing incredibly dissonant yet sonorous responses. I forget the name of this style of vocal arrangement but it is sung in game. Normal there is only music during boss fights but this song is apparently being sung in the courtyard of a church in a so-called hidden village. You first hear it after having been kidnapped and the sense of dread and foreboding was unmatched for any game I have ever played. Which is/should be the point of video games. They should help you suspend disbelief and give you an unique experiences. Hail the nightmare being sung in game made me wonder about the choir, also a named faction in the game, because it was likely them singing the song in the game.

@@TeraCMusic Would love to see a series and maybe one for the other Fromsoftware games too! Dark souls 3 especially having a soundtrack comparitive in quality to Bloodborne. One other soundtrack I might recommend from Bloodborne is Ebrietas, daughter of the cosmos' theme. It's the closest thing to Cthulhu there is in Bloodborne and to paint an image, the composer commented this about the track. "While composing the music for Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos, I sensed themes of the universe, of finality, of something godly, and I was filled with visions of the end of the world as I worked on that song."
I like that even though you never played the game, you try to interpret what is going on with the music. It would be interesting to hear from Bloodborne fans if you were right on or not. What other games have you not played but would be interested to interpret the OST

Hello. I'm not sure if anyone else already talked about this but About Gherman situation, I'll explain without spoilers. He was trying to save someone, and they both were fighting each other. Fun fact, the music box is an item you can use in-game. It has the same tempo as the player's character's footsteps. It's not a coincidence that this synchronicity happens. It hides a profound cosmic truth behind its design. Edited for grammar check.
Oh wow! Funny enough, I always try to match my pace to whatever song I'm listening to when walking/jogging (I think it's called Entrainment?). Does the music tempo change when the character runs? 🤔 So many awesome ideas and deep lore in the music and how it fits into the game!
I really love Bloodborne ost, is the best souls game's ost and one of the best in general for me. Please do Father Gascoigne, Ludwig the accursed/holy blade, Lady Maria and living failures
Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower, Laurence the First Vicar and Ludwig the Holy Blade are the three best imo. Would be awesome to see those get covered. Lady Marias is my personal favourite. Starts as an almost elegant classy dance piece and decends into desperation and madness as Maria herself changes during the bossfight. The others also have great storytelling within them as well.

returning to the young man of mistakes, somehow framed as a salute to that dying soldier. what a sad way to go. nothing really ever changes to a man like that, despite a lifetime of regret. truly gehrman fell from grace three times; once long ago in that fishing village, once again when he sat down, and one last time when he stood back up.
Just stumbled upon your channel, and I must say - the next one you shall listen to is either "Ludwig the Accursed and Holy blade" or "Living failures" Most reactors tend to overlook Living failures, however in my opinion it is such an amazing soundtrack, unpopular only due to the boss, whose theme it is, being unpopular. Please, do not overlook it. And Ludwig the Accursed will make you SO impressed, don't even want to spoil anything
I've only played Bloodborne for around 3,000 hours so I'm still a newbie 😁 The title music with the cinematic is an amazing introduction. You have to let the title screen idle for a couple of minutes. Living Failures have one of the best scores in the game, ironically.
Oh, Father Gascoigne's theme is probably the most flamboyant and adrenaline-fueled scores in a game ever, especially when the second phase comes in - which is missed in this ost, sadly. I've normally killed him before phase 2 (takes less than 2 minutes usually), but every now and then I just run around the area to allow the score to progress.
Wait, why have I never heard the silent sound on the right ear until now!? I hear Lullaby For Mergo every day, but I never notice that, it sounds like someone is breathing to me.
my opinion on "The Night Unfurls" 0:30 the sun is setting down and the night is coming 0:46-1:17 the feeling of suspense and uncertainty might tied to the hunt because Yharnamites know about the hunt but they don't know how much worse it can get and the hunt is getting so much worse each passing night 2:10 the music and the vocalist getting louder and intense might be because the Yharnamites are panicking as the night gradually sets in and there's nothing they can do but to endure by staying in their home and pray to the gods that the beast plague didn't get them 3:10 The Night Unfurls
Please for the next Bloodborne ost video, listen to the songs on the offical SIE Sound Team channel. Because other channels might add unnecessary sound effects to the songs which could ruin the experience, the ones on the SIE Sound Team channel are the official songs

Song named "Bloodborne" from the OST is pretty good. It plays in the end titles of the game. And it perfectely describes evolution of the plot through the walkthrough, who knows who knows.
It’s probably already been explained but Gehrman is basically a prisoner of a higher being and is a sort of host for the player. Near the end of the game you have two options. Let him kill you and escape the nightmare (you don’t die you wake up outside of this different realm) or you give into madness or stubbornness and defend yourself against him. If you kill gehrman you take his place as a prisoner in the dream a slave to that higher being
If you want to freak out again like at Lullaby for Mergo, than listen to Hail the Nightmare. If I didn't know Scelsi's Uaxuctum, I'd say that one is the scariest shit in music history.
To me, it feels like most video game directors want their OSTs to be sort of wallpaper, hitting certain emotions or flavors at pivotal moments, and an ambience when there is nothing really happening but world traversal, rather than complementing the story. Jeremy Soule's Skyrim soundtrack feels like that to me (although that particular OST is VERY well done for what it is). It feels super purposeful with FromSoft games, particularly those directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, that he wants you to almost be part of an interactive opera. He wants the music to be an integral part of the tale. If you listen to Dark Souls' OST, particularly the Ornstein & Smough boss music, I think you can pick it out very clearly. It's bombastic and heroic in a baroque sort of way, but there's almost a sickly note underneath. Like something is rotten in these old heroes.
All the music in Bloodborne is worth listening to. But there are some pieces that are truly masterpieces: 1) Ludwig the Accursed/the Holy Blade 2) Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower 3) Living Failures 4) Laurence, the first Vicar

Mergo’s Lullaby is played during the boss fight against Mergo’s Wet Nurse (A six-armed hooded seraphim, with six sickle-like blades that are trying to hack you to pieces). The boss arena is basically a circular area with a small pit in the middle and a tiny empty crib. Gerhman, the First Hunter is a lament. In that fight, each of you is fighting to save the other from their circumstances/fate. “Tonight, Gerhman joins the Hunt…” If you do more Bloodborne reactions, you can’t skip Father G. 😮

@@steel2572 You forgot to mention that if you allow Gherman to kill you, he is the one who'll remain forever trapped in the nightmare - a nightmare he desperately desires to escape. He's trying to sacrifice himself for your sake, even if you are too far gone to realize it.
I really like your reaction videos! Keep it going :)
Thank you so much!! More coming soon, so keep an eye out!
The tragedy of Gherman is that while he is trapped and made to suffer for eternity, he is trying to save us and prevent us from trying to save him, cause to save him we would have to take his place or lose our humanity.
I absolutely HATE how accurate you are. *huge applause*
@@beansnrice321 Great suggestions, thank you so much! There will definitely be a part 3 and I'll see what I can squeeze in! Living Failures is already on the list, and I did listen to some of Father Gascoigne, but didn't finish listening (so it might end up getting cut from Part 2).
Living Failures next would be nice, quite underrated track.
07:42 Mergo's lullaby is a boss fight music.... imagine fighting for your dear life with this music .... brrrrr deliciously crrrrrrrreepy 08:32 yeah my chest cavity felt empty and cold when it played TTxTT 11:11 I saw somewhere that in Bloodborne, string instruments represent the hunters so the melancholic cielo is met with a younger violin both determined to fulfill their moral duty.... In spite of each others...
then combine it with the occasional cry of mergo
You should definitely listen to Lady Maria's theme and the Orphan of Kos. The two have some heavy lore ties with Gehrman, the overall story surrounding them only enhances their already transcendant scores 🙏🏽
I added them to my list! Looks like I'll have to film a Part 3 based on everyone's comments and suggestions!
"While composing the music for Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos, I sensed themes of the universe, of finality, of something godly, and I was filled with visions of the end of the world as I worked on that song."
man i love bloodborne, great react btw
I like that even though you never played the game, you try to interpret what is going on with the music. It would be interesting to hear from Bloodborne fans if you were right on or not. What other games have you not played but would be interested to interpret the OST
There are so many lol! I've only played a little bit of Genshin Impact, so that could be a cool one to do. Also haven't actually played much of Visions of Mana either but that OST is really good from what I've listened to so far
Hello. I'm not sure if anyone else already talked about this but
About Gherman situation, I'll explain without spoilers.
He was trying to save someone, and they both were fighting each other. A fight where the looser is the winner
So he was trying to win the fight, against the person he's trying to save.
Gehrman, The Last Hunter
Choir translation
Venator a mi sumo vela mala
Anima do res mihi somne restas
Luna insidiosa
Luna tenebrarum
Di vises mi miserete aeterna
Good hunter, let me free you from this evil
I devote my life to sustain the dream
Oh, the insidious moon
Oh, these mysterious nights
Great one, look upon me and grant everlasting mercy
@@steel2572 All three will be in the upcoming videos! Ludwig is in Part 2, and I just filmed Part 3 with Maria and Laurence (still deciding if I want to split that up into 2 videos) 🎶
@@TeraCMusic Oh thats great to hear ill definitely tune in
YES. One of the best soundtracks of all time. You’ve only scratched the surface. Gotta do Part 2 with Ludwig’s theme, Lady Maria’s and Laurence’s! They will BLOW your MIND 😂
returning to the young man of mistakes, somehow framed as a salute to that dying soldier. what a sad way to go. nothing really ever changes to a man like that, despite a lifetime of regret. truly gehrman fell from grace three times; once long ago in that fishing village, once again when he sat down, and one last time when he stood back up.
its incredible how musicians can understand Gehrman's story just by hearing his song
that bow makes it look like you have the ben ten omnitrix in your hair also love bloodborne
Cleric Beast/Vicar Amelia is so creepy. I love it
Just stumbled upon your channel, and I must say - the next one you shall listen to is either "Ludwig the Accursed and Holy blade" or "Living failures"
Most reactors tend to overlook Living failures, however in my opinion it is such an amazing soundtrack, unpopular only due to the boss, whose theme it is, being unpopular. Please, do not overlook it.
And Ludwig the Accursed will make you SO impressed, don't even want to spoil anything
I've only played Bloodborne for around 3,000 hours so I'm still a newbie 😁
The title music with the cinematic is an amazing introduction.
Would love to see your reaction for more tracks from the OST! Awesome analysis btw.
"TerraCMusic reaction cord 1/3" ❤
Part 2 is coming out tomorrow! 🎶
Wait, why have I never heard the silent sound on the right ear until now!? I hear Lullaby For Mergo every day, but I never notice that, it sounds like someone is breathing to me.
my opinion on "The Night Unfurls"
0:30 the sun is setting down and the night is coming
0:46-1:17 the feeling of suspense and uncertainty might tied to the hunt because Yharnamites know about the hunt but they don't know how much worse it can get and the hunt is getting so much worse each passing night
2:10 the music and the vocalist getting louder and intense might be because the Yharnamites are panicking as the night gradually sets in and there's nothing they can do but to endure by staying in their home and pray to the gods that the beast plague didn't get them
3:10 The Night Unfurls
Please for the next Bloodborne ost video, listen to the songs on the offical SIE Sound Team channel. Because other channels might add unnecessary sound effects to the songs which could ruin the experience, the ones on the SIE Sound Team channel are the official songs
@@alu9140 I will make sure to do so for Part 3! Part 2 is already filmed unfortunately 😅 Thank you for the info!
@@TeraCMusic You're welcome
This is the second time I heard mergo's theme and it still really scary. I mean who would let their baby hear this. No wander mergo cries.
Hope to see you reacting to the other one, what you listened to is just the tip of the ice berg
two hunters, fighting to free each other
Not sure if you only do game soundtracks but I’d love to hear your opinion on the score for Alien3, some of the music in that is incredible.
@@thebacklogisreal I'll focus on game OSTs for now, but wouldn't mind branching out here and there for other things like anime and movies!

La banda sonora de Bloodborne es una Obra Maestra
Song named "Bloodborne" from the OST is pretty good. It plays in the end titles of the game. And it perfectely describes evolution of the plot through the walkthrough, who knows who knows.
@@СовиныйТеоретик Bloodborne will be in Part 2, coming in a few days!
@@TeraCMusicthank you. I love reactions on BB OST. And I always search for it on YT.
@@senorkaktusz5940 Check out Part 4, I listened to Hail The Nightmare in that video! 🎶
In my humble opinion, Gherman The First Hunter is one of the best pieces ever written.
@@samhill6444 So far, out of all the tracks I've listened to from this game, I agree!
All the music in Bloodborne is worth listening to. But there are some pieces that are truly masterpieces:
1) Ludwig the Accursed/the Holy Blade
2) Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower
3) Living Failures
4) Laurence, the first Vicar
Bloodborne has the best Title theme and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
I’m a new subscriber I just wanted to say ur song about undertale - undertale with eruption was amazing CAN U PLEASE DO UNDYNE THE UNDYING?😆
ALRIGHT FINE ILL PLAY IT AGAIN YOU WIN!
Bloodborne ost is great. Spot on for gerhman. id recommend drakengard 3 final song or kuroi uta ( the black song )
Ah yes bloodborn. The hell im stuck in
I think it's correct to say that something tragic happened to Gehrman, but I prefer to say that Gehrman simply IS the tragedy.
Part 2 with reaction to living failures OST when? 🥹
@@piyushsharma3991 Part 2 is out! But Living Failures will be in Part 3 (releasing next week most likely)!
I hope you’ll listen to Ludwigs and Lady Maria’s OST
If you explain the story of Bloodborne to people, you’ll sound utterly insane.
To anybody who wants to continue music journey tgrough Bloodborne-alike music - listen to Morton Feldman's Rothko Cahpel
Oh the journey you just started. Now you have to do the Bloodborne OST. Then Elden Ring. Then the Dark Souls series. Prepare for a fun ride!
I'm gonna need track suggestions for those other games! I was completely unsure which tracks were good and which ones I should've skipped for this vid and Part 2 😅
@@TeraCMusic I promise I will give you so many worthy tracks, it'll give you content for months! For now, with Bloodborne, you have:
Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower
Ludwig the Accursed THEN Ludwig the Holy Blade
Living Failures
Laurence the First Vicar
Orphan of Kos
End Credits theme

all fromsoftware games have pretty good original soundtracks
3:38 i think you stop the songs before the best part
Mergo’s Lullaby is played during the boss fight against Mergo’s Wet Nurse (A six-armed hooded seraphim, with six sickle-like blades that are trying to hack you to pieces).
The boss arena is basically a circular area with a small pit in the middle and a tiny empty crib.
Gerhman, the First Hunter is a lament. In that fight, each of you is fighting to save the other from their circumstances/fate.
“Tonight, Gerhman joins the Hunt…”
