💬Two nights in a row!
Love this band, love this song. Tragic backstories as well. I hope you all enjoy this one.
Onto the next!💜
U r the best WonderMommaOG - AIC is the best grunge band - Thanks
Momma's been busy! Love your videos
That was so quick 😮
Personally, I think the harmony of Cantrell and Staley is just as good as the ladies in the B-52's. A perfect match.
Makes me sad listening to Alice in Chains... knowing what Layne went through.
If you do any other A.I.C. songs, then I recommend the M.T.V. unplugged version of Nutshell.
Thank you WonderMommaOG.
When people say "music USED to be better"... THIS is what they're talking about! 💯
I've always believed that variety is the spice of life. Watching people step outside their comfort zone to experience new music, puts a smile on my face.
They might have been called grunge but AIC had such a specific sound due to Layne's vocals and Jerry's harmonies and his guitar. RIP Layne and Mikey.
Yes,that "specific" sound,is "Grunge" music. That "Specific sound" is wht separated it from rock and other music!
The only band out of the Seattle 4 that could be considered grunge was Nirvana, and to some extent Soundgarden. Pearl Jam was blues-punk and AIC was heavy metal.
They are "grunge" along the same lines that Pink Floyd are "rock".
My favorite all time band. And it isn’t even close. They don’t get NEAR the credit they deserve. Nirvana gets all the credit for breaking this genre and in my opinion they can’t even carry Alice In Chains road cases. Saw them twice and I was never the same. And I find it rather ironic that the best singer, guitar player and songwriter in Nirvana was their drummer
It always makes me scratch my head when Nirvana are labelled pioneers of the Seattle alternative music scene. Don’t get me wrong Nirvana was good, but I would hardly call them pioneers of that particular sound. Bands such as the U-Men, Melvin’s, Tad and Bam Bam were definitely pioneers of the grunge sound. Nirvana had the biggest mainstream success out of them all at that time with Nevermind which was more radio friendly and whilst Kurt got the fame and fortune he desired by selling out, it came at a huge personal cost.
Whilst Dirt by AIC didn’t have the level of success that Nevermind did, it is a masterpiece of brilliant musicianship and songwriting that is a dark, uncomfortable and harrowing journey into the psyche of Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley. They didn’t compromise their sound to make the record label happy and the result was Dirt which then followed up with the equally brilliant Jar of Flies which set a high standard for future bands to follow.
Saw them in 1992. One of the best shows of my life for sure. Layne was even wheeled out in a wheelchair after recovering from a motorcycle accident. He just propped himself up with the mic stand and rocked that place down.
That's quintessential rock star shit right there!
That sounds epic.
Saw them on same tour. Mike starr spent more time in the chair than Layne did. Layne climbed and jumped off PA on sides of stage all night.
I saw this tour as well. He must have been new to the injury because he would just wheel to one side of the stage to the other. Also, I think he had a couch to sit on. Still blew it out. Opening for Ozzy right? Also, Mr. Video always makes me laugh! He is fired up.
@@jakes3059 yes. Ozzy tour. With sepultura minus Max (sick). Andreas handled vocals.......and I forgot all about the couch. 🤘
The coolest part of this video was seeing your creative process. A lot goes into the making of one of these! I hope more people learn to appreciate how tough it is to edit one of these together!
Thanks so much!
Great vid Momma. Alice in Chains were the first to break grunge out for the masses. Without them there would be no Soundgarden, no Pearl Jam, no Nirvana.....or at least most wouldn't have heard of them. Keep the awesome content coming. Stay Happy and Healthy
Mad Season’s ‘Wake Up’ is one of Layne’s most poignant vocal performances. Really underrated.
RIP Layne and Mike
This was the song that started my love of this band, Layne had such a unique voice. Paired with Jerry's harmony and song writing made this band my favorite of the grunge era.
I never get tired of seeing people enjoying the music I grew up on.
The connection, the feelings, the goosebumps, all of it - just great.
Thank you for another wicked compilation, momma! 😊👍
Alice in Chains was the great link between heavy metal and grunge. From Man in the Box to Would to Down in a Hole all the way to No Excuses and Rooster, Layne's raw, gritty, angsty, bluesy voice with Jerry Cantrell's amazing drop down guitar licks.....Alice In Chains was the complete package.
I am assuming you did not see the mob rules tour in 81.
Can't forget Dirt, that song is what opened the channels into metal for me
@@user-fp9qg3qm5b I would have been 5 lol
First AIC vid I ever saw and was instantly hooked. When they hit, every body was into Nirvana & Pearl Jam. I got instantly into AIC & Stone Temple Pilots who both - at the time - were receiving less than half of the airplay. RIP Layne - one of the greatest voices I've ever heard.
Totally agree, except I’ll replace STP with Soundgarden, because the only person who was vocally able to compete with Layne was Chris Cornell.
@@joelmbaumgartner That hits well bro and I 100% agree. But SG didn't do it for me as much as Audioslave.
@@mil2k11 I never got into Pearl Jam at the time, and was more into Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden and then Alice in Chains. Such a great time in musical history
It was at this moment that every hair metal band put down the aqua net hairspray once and for all.
I ❤ how Momma ends every vid with "THANK YOU" when *we* should be thanking *her*!
THANK YOU MOMMA!
I miss Layne so bad it kills me how much we lost out on by not having his presence in music today.
Like lots of other people, I'm sure, my introduction to the new music scene coming out of Seattle (aka grunge) was Smells Like Teen Spirit. I instantly loved it and could practically smell the upcoming changes in the musical landscape in the air. But THIS song is the one that really grabbed me and I became a huge AIC fan. Layne was the man!!
Awesome video! Next up, Rooster and Would
Another great AIC song is the live version of Love Hate Love
Yes! Alice In Chains is one of the greatest rock bands of all time and Layne Staley has one of the most powerful voices ever. If you haven't yet, do a mashup of the live version of Love, Hate, Love. Keep up the good work!
They are great but don't go overboard. All the British invasion bands, as well as Ted nugent, van halen, etc. Blow them away. But this is a great song.😊
Apples and Oranges, in my opinion. Both are fruit and amazing in their own ways.
@@user-fp9qg3qm5b Those British invasion bands are great, but don't go overboard. Those other bands DEFINITELY don't blow them away. Plus, they are a different style so really not a good comparison. Besides, I said they were ONE OF the best, not THE best. Anyway, to each their own.
Best band of the 90's, in my opinion. I got to be part of that Seattle grunge scene when I was in my mid 20's. Seattle changed rock, forced music to evolve. It was a great time in the PNW! 🤘
Seeing the eyes sewn shut is stomach turning but Layne seemed to love it and had it as a tattoo.
I remember hearing this album for the first time when it was just released, I'm about to start crying.❤❤❤
I was singer in a cover band in the 2000's. This song blew people away live!
Mother Love Bone was another awesome 90's band cut short. RIP LS easily one of the greatest vocalists
Once again, you outdid yourself…. Another banger!!!!
So thankful for this. I remember the exact time I heard this song for the first time!!! Love it. Thank you so much.
Love your work! & your Dedication to making these videos! Keep on Rockin! 😎✌🏾🫶🏻
Great reaction compilation! Thank you for not censoring the lyrics of this awesome classic!!!
Was looking for the comment about how similar the Eek the Cat outro music was to this song. Whenever I hear this song, I immediately picture Eek the Cat
Woohoo, miss Layne so much. Great song! LFG🚀🚀🚀🤘🏼🎤🎸
Love your videos! Thank you!💜
Awesome how music can bring us all together. Thanks for the positive content. Im an old hillbilly and i love these reaction videos. Thank you.
Thank YOU.
Millie is the shit. Its so fun watching her experience real music. Remimds me of my daughter. Except my girl was experiencing this at age 4 😂
sorry for yesterdays comment my isp does weird things at weird times, loved this
Thank you WMOG! ❤️
Love the backstory to this and others they’ve done.
This is a great song on an album full of great songs.
Thanks for the upload!!
Thank you for all your hard work compiling all those reaction videos! You do an amazing job!♥️
RIP Layne and Mike !!! Best Grunge era band ever in my heart!
I remember seeing this video at 12yrs old and laughing at the eyes sewed shut.
The second Seattle Grunge album released on a major label (Soundgarden was first) and the first one to go Gold thanks to this video receiving monstrous MTV airplay. It went multi platinum later after Nirvana brought the masses to the Seattle scene.
The Best band I’ve ever seen live. Layne was and remains the GOAT.
A long time ago I was a Vocalist in a band and when I heard this I made the band learn it over one weekend just so I could sing it.
RIP Layne Mike Demri
🕊🕊🕊🙏🏼🕯⌛
You know. Music is a singularity. Time machine, portal, threads...Got to be DEEP. Love it when chills Hit em.😎
Saw them live when they opened for Van Halen in Phoenix...what a show!!!❤😂🎉
Loved this song. not long after it was used for Tommy Dreamers intro song in ECW.
My favorite song from them!! I'm soo glad you did this one😊😊
I love watching their reactions on this one. AIC has always been one of my go to bands. The stank faces throughout!
Always look forward to your compilations. Thank you so much for ALL the effort you put into these.
A lot of what makes AiC's vox special is that you didn't just have Layne's powerful, haunting bellows but also Jerry backing & harmonizing a lot of the time.
AiC was unique. I didn't even throw them in with grunge at 1st... Though I think they were the 1st Seattle band that I heard. Regardless AiC was in their own sphere. One of those great bands that I can't heap in with anyone else.
One of my favorite bands.
I saw them open for Van Halen in the summer of 91. When they played this song the crowd went bonkers. This was when Layne prowled around the stage like a panther & could talk your ear off between songs; great job being a frontman b4 all the bad stuff began to happen. I knew they were a great band back then, but I don't think any1 outside of Seattle knew they would be @ the forefront of a musical movement.
Have always loved AIC...and Layne and Jerry...and this has always been my fave of so many awesome songs of theirs.❤
I saw Alice at Roseland in NYC after they released Dirt. A guy in the crowd tossed a bottle or something and hit Layne. He stopped the song, pointed the guy out and security took him away. Alice then resumed playing. Oh, and the concert was great, too. Top teir.
Here's a liitle story about when I bumped into Layne Staley, or rather he bumped into me. It was 1991 in a Los Angeles rock theater & my friends & I were seeing Pantera. As you know, the scene gets a bit rowdy & a mosh pit broke out. My friend & I were outside the circle of mayhem, contemplating if & when we should join in, when all of a sudden, this tall, lanky mother effer rudely busts through us, me getting the brunt of it. My friend pushes him really hard & he goes flying towards the pit. We just took it as this drunk or wasted dude being unruly & didn't think much of it. Not long after that, the lead singer from Pantera, Phil Anselmo, takes a break in between songs & announces somebody's going to come up & join them on stage for a song. We're standing there, awaiting to see who it's going to be & low & behold, it was none of than Layne himself. My friend & I look at each in disbelief, sheepishly laughing to one another that my friend shoved this little known singer a good 10 feet. Who would've ever know he'd have the career, & sadly, the tragic life he was going to have? I wish my story would've had a better ending, like he felt bad for his actions & he brought us back stage to party, but that didn't happen. One of the most iconic singers in rock history & I got thrown aside by him. As Eric Draven said in The Crow, nothing's trivial. RIP, Mr Staley.
Hos voice is pure goose bumps
Can't wait for the Would? reaction...
Or the unplugged concert for that matter, since the last 2/3 years everyone and their mother (literaly) started to react to AiC
Thank you for this!
We had stone temple pilots, nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains, mudhoney other amazing bands 90's was truly awesome time. Wonder Momma u rock ❤
One of the best bands of the time... and I loved how you could see the moment MollyboyTV's life changed :)
Love this Momma. What a song, What a group. TY! ❤
WonderMomma, thanks for having great taste and for always keeping it 💯 I know a lot of these reactions used the “safe for radio” version but you preserved the original track. IYKYK.
Always! Censored versions make my OCD itch. 😅 Thanks for noticing.
Great compilation WonderMamaOG!! Love the song and group, too. ❤. Keep up the great work 👍👍
People refer to this genre as “ grunge” which had more to do with style and fashion. The word “chunky “ comes to mind every time is hear this track kick off.
Love Layne Staley’s voice! Gone to soon.
Thanks for showing your process, that's a ton of work and the result is amazing! 👍👍👍
Classic. Great song! AIC was in my heavy rotation in the 90s
Another great video. Love seeing reactions of people hearing songs that I grew up listening to for the first time.. Hoping you're going to do a compilation reaction to one of the most watched videos on TH-cam. The Eddie Van Halen eruption solo.. That would be AWSOME!!
Wonder Momma OG coming thru! Thank you 😊
Alice in chain man in a he box one of my favorites 🤘🔥🔥🔥🎤🎸🎸🥁🤘🔉🔉🔊🔊🔉🔊🔊🔉🤘🔥🔥🔥
If people don’t react to a live version of this, they’ll never see the insane way Layne and Jerry both melodically matched one another with guitar and voice
So glad you went with the uncensored version 👍❤️
I think Alice In Chains was pretty much kind of the combo of heavy metal and grunge in my opinion.
Nice work Momma...
Of course if you are going to do Alice In Chains mashups this should be the song. Layne shows off that voice really well.
All the work you put into these videos....Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you
I always liked to imagine AIC jamming this song for their music video, all the while Pearl Jam was shooting their cover for the 2nd album “VS” in this same remote Seattle farmhouse. Obviously this isnt factual, but would be incredibly coincidental if it were true hehehe
Ohhh...Layne!!! He and Kurt both passed on my birthday...I play their songs from unplugged every year...Nutshell kills me...but I love this song too! Layne wrote this about censorship and what some may not realize it is also about the perspective of a calf in a box..meat consumption!! This is also a collab with Jerry and Layne as co-written...I loved that man! And still do! This came out about a year prior to Teen Spirit and to me set the precendent!!! I LOVE YOU WONDERMOMMA...always hitting the mark!!! I was fortunate enough to see them twice and will never forget Layne!❤❤❤
Awwww... miss u Layne, hope u found happiness!
I was ALWAYS a AIC & Soundgarden gal. Some liked Nirvana & Pearl Jam. Me, not so much. Nothing wrong w them, but I leaned heavier ❤
Not only musically heavier, but Layne and Chris were the two best male singers of that era, without rival.
I will NEVER DENY MY MAKER...
That's a great song!!!
Great work WonderMomma, my favourite track of theirs is "Rooster" from the album Dirt 1992. Totally worth a listen!
OUTSTANDING. 👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻
That song is tight 🤩
Also the inclusion of the absolute best moments from all my favorite reactors, like the kind-of "prissy" Charismatic Voice lady's reaction to "the dread 'S-Word'" and the Eyes Sewn Shut ending. Hahahaa! Loved this. Just loved it.
I love Alice in Chains. They got big, but never as big as they should have. Facelift is still my favorite album they ever did. Thanks Momma, you rock!
This song has everything. Super heavy, great lyrics, amazing guitar riffs and solos, some of the best harmonies you will ever hear and Layne's main vocals damn near perfect. Thanks once again.
Great stuff Wonder Momma!. Thanks.
The 90s is the most underrated decades when it comes to music....
And it was friggen magical!✨
Oi Momma. Sexta-feira à noite batendo cabeça. Grande reação! 🇺🇸🤘🇧🇷🎸😁
Nice reactions video. Very cool to see people react to this.
Don't hate it ,,,,,, hard to understand the words.
Tnx Momma
Lee
Excellent video. Hope you're feeling better, Momma
Great song momma, Rooster is really good too.
AIC was miles better than Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or any other band out of Seattle in the early 90’s. Nobody sang like Layne.
Mother Love Bone. End of message.
@@haplessgolem805 to me, Mother Love Bone will only be the reason we have Say Hello 2 Heaven, Would, and Far Behind.
Sorry, but that’s my truth.
Loved them all but AIC and Soundgarden were my favorites and got to see both live
I'm a AIC fan both there was plenty of rock bands and some metal as good or better in the 90's.
Yeah it's very trendy to say that these days
Another really great video momma! ❤
ugh i love this format of compilation reaction and i knew most of them. awesome video, awesome channel. liked and subbed.
Welcome aboard!
Great video! Even though Layne has passed their replacement William Duvall sounds pretty good....
