From Season 3 Episode 3 "Sharpe's Sword": On a mission to protect the identity of Wellington's master spy `El Mirador', the dashing swordsman is nearly done for by a French foe. 0:49....."Why can't i look after him?! He's MY Major!!" Such fierce devotion from Harper - I love the fact they started out as foes so to speak, and through Sharpe's own respect for his men and leadership style, his men particularly Harper, became fiercely loyal to him.
Harper using his original occupation, a blacksmith, to help is commanding officer and friend.

It's nice that Sharpe gets an 'upgrade' - I often think it's a bit of a shame that he's promoted again and again in the first few films (Lt in Rifles, Cpt in Eagle, confirmed Cpt in Company, and Major in Enemy) as it doesn't leave him many more rewards he can receive. I understand that it's a departure from the book, but I think it's neat that his new sword has a bit of Spain in it, and is an improvement on his old one.
It might have been cool if the new sword had a distinctively different hilt, or there were scenes where we see how much better it is than his old one or those of his enemies, but maybe the first would be too out of character for someone like Sharpe who's a practical, down to earth soldier rather than a fancy fop, and the second would be too unrealistic (though the image of his new sword, say, shattering opponents' ones would be cool :D).
Your sword being way better doesn't mean you'll shatter enemy swords. That's purely down to being able to hit hard enough to break them.
@@huntclanhunt9697 a sword breaking is mostly down to the sword being of an extremely bad make, it's extraordinarily difficult to break a sword, because they are meant and made to bend and feather.

It is kinda cool that he got an "upgrade", since it is just another thing he has in common with Colonel Ibram Gaunt (who is basically "space Sharpe")

Every actor having a certain amount of screen time life sounds like a funny concept. Sean used up all his on Sharpe, cheating death too many times so now he gets punished in every other role he plays lol

As far as I remember Harper was a crofter's son. But I suppose he learned to blow the bellows and made a good use of his strenght hammering plow shards at the local blacksmith workshop back home in Donegal.
The edge of sword blade looked like a kid had been play fighting with it or someone had used it in their yard.

so the priest left the bullet in him and what? expected him to make a recovery with the leaden ball in his chest or was just hoping he would convert before taking it out?
Shoulder. And soft lead ball was commonly... not fully extracted, anyway, since it had a nasty habit of deforming & fragmenting if it hit bone. Sharpe must've been hit from a shooter further back in the fort during the retreat for the bullet to have simply lodged into soft tissue. Maybe from the uppermost firing slit at the keep.
Edit: Also! The wound was described as already infected, while it was semi-common knowing that bullets didn't cause that. The bullet wasn't killing him, but the infection left in its path. So removing the bullet from his supperating wound was more a... feel good procedure on a semi-conscious man.
@@TrollOfReason Wounds would get infected from the debris the bullet would carry into the wound: bits of clothes and such. You can actually see, when Lass removes the bullet, there's gunk hanging from it.
Why the surgeon couldn't do the same, I don't know. Shite surgeon.
Of course, Sharpe was incredibly lucky: that's a stomach wound, but it didn't perforate his intestines. And also incredibly lucky that Lass didn't perforate his intestines; you don't poke tweezers blindly into a wound. You make an incision, pull its edges apart, only insert tools when you see where you're going. You don't want to cause more damage. Master and Commander shows what such an operation would have looked like at the time.
little funfact: In the book the bullets stays where it is because none dares to dig into the lower right side of the abdomen
also one reasoning would be quiet simple: he won't make it so why bother? (that's clearer in the book because he gets shot down in a "hospital" not short after a battle so they just get the ones who will make it and also he is mistaken for a commoner (scars on back) and a french because he didn't have his jacket.)

Character is simply called "Lass" played by Emily Mortimer.
At first glance I thought she was Miranda Otto😀
she played a charecter in shutter island too . i thought the girl in this series was her mother or something .
