    It's great that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is heading to Switch, but Nintendo removing the Wii U version from the eShop is less great.

    Just seems like an anti-consumer move that barely even benefits them. People who own a wii u probably already own the game and even if they don't why would an updated switch version make them want it. Everyone buying it on switch is getting it because either they missed out on it or want to play it again with the new stuff. Idk personally I think Nintendo does this to mask the fact they're selling older games at full price. I'm excited for pikmin 3 but it's a borderline scummy practise I'd expect from EA.

      I feel like if you were tech savy enough to go looking for the older version, you'd be savy enough to know it existed anyway.
      I wonder if this is just Search engine optimisation. As the WiiU eshop does have a web-side access. Or they're trying to avoid people selling digital codes for the older version as a scam?

      The game is from 2013 and it still costs 60 dollars on the switch. It should be A MAXIMUM of 40. Nintendo somehow made their fans accept this disgusting practice of charging older games at full price.

    My biggest concern with this isn't specifically the fact that the WiiU version was removed but that Nintendo is basically admitting that the $60 deluxe version isn't worth $40 more than the $20 vanilla version.
    Nintendo KNOWS there are people who would choose the WiiU version solely because the Deluxe version doesn't constitute the price hike.
    So what has me upset is that Nintendo would rather just remove the WiiU version than make the deluxe version a bigger value proposition.

    • @pastarhythm2762
      @pastarhythm2762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Eh, I don't think it's really like that. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is adding a ton of content and is polishing a lot of things. A lot of work was put into this port, so it's worth more than $20. They haven't added this much to a port since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (and Xenoblade, but that's more of a remaster.)
      I'm not defending Nintendo for this decision, I'm just saying that I don't see it as admitting that the port isn't worth its price.

    • @ProphitDesigns
      @ProphitDesigns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@pastarhythm2762 I don't think an argument is being made here when "this much" added and MK8D are in the same conversation.
      MK8D with a complete lack of new tracks and a roster expansion smaller than a single smash fighter pass IMO hardly constitutes a deluxe moniker either. All they really did was fix a broken battle mode that was expected in the base game or at the very least a paid update for the wiiU version.
      I'm a big supporter of Nintendo, but legacy content and ports aren't something I think Ninty excels at in the slightest. So much so that even this Mario 3D all stars rumor is heavily questioned because people don't believe Ninty would release a compilation when they could just sell each one separately for 60 dollars like they have for Zelda remasters, and other WiiU ports.
      Meanwhile a greedy business like Activision will release Spyro and Crash trilogy's for less.

    • @natsume-hime2473
      @natsume-hime2473 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@pastarhythm2762 More than $20? Sure. $60 for a 7 year old game with some new content and updates? Heck no. Their port pricing has been consistently awful and it prices a lot of people out of the market. They could have picked a much more reasonable price point like $40, but simply didn't. Heck they could have done that price point with some of the smaller *NEW* games that had intended paid DLC, but they didn't. They're simply being greedy really at this point.

    • @pastarhythm2762
      @pastarhythm2762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ProphitDesigns What I was trying to highlight was that most of the Wii U ports don't add a whole lot, with MK8D and Pikmin 3 DX adding much more than usual. Regardless of how much content MK8D actually added, Pikmin 3 really is adding a good bit here. New story content, Piklopedia, the control changes we saw in the recent gameplay reveal, etc. I also think Nintendo handles legacy content rather poorly, but P3D is one of the better ports they've made, no doubt in my mind.
      Back on the topic of price, Maybe $60 is still a bit much, but I think it does enough to warrant being over $20.

    "Lemme just climb up onto my high horse" I love it when Arlo gets Shady.
    But no seriously Nintendo's been lowkey at this around the last five years or so honestly. What with Joycon drift and their response to it, stock shortages, DKC Tropical Freeze, the quote unquote "Switch tax" regarding games on the eShop that receive Switch ports being marginally more expensive than almost any other platform, the doing away with the concept of the Virtual Console and regulating their legacy content to something akin to a worse Spotify subscription, to the not even lack of releases in 2020 but just the near radio silence on just about every front.
    Not to mention too, how they charge and have BEEN charging a full $60 for a remastered game since...well around Wind Waker HD. Whereas when other companies give a game the same treatment? $30 (For Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles) or $40 (for Spyro Reignited Trilogy). And I'm not even talking about a complete ground up remake like Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Shadow of the Colossus for PS4, no just something like Wind Waker HD which in and of itself was a remaster with a few extra things thrown in and a fresh coat of paint.
    I do love Nintendo and their content, some of my best memories of childhood were in front of their games with friends beside me, but they really need to evaluate who's lining their investor's pockets.

      @@zackrose6261 if that was true, wouldn't the existence of the Nintendo Selects version be the same thing? No, it's scummy as hell to remove that. Most video games hugely drop in price after a few years, Nintendo games are a staunch exception but y'know sometimes, they bring it down to 20.
      There is no reason for them to charge 60 here. In comparison to every other Deluxe release, this is very weak because there is no new content. They did basically no work in porting this to Switch. And then they lock off an entire audience from getting the game.
      I get that some Nintendo fans will always defend Nintendo, and I used to be one of those, but this isn't Iwata's Nintendo anymore, when they always shied away from crappy practices like this. This is the new Nintendo, where you have to pay for online but they don't put any work into the servers, where they allow Game Freak to become the new EA, and yes, they remove games from older systems to trap their players into paying higher prices.

      yeah, do you remember the new play control rereleases of GC games with some technical updates and new controls sold at a lower cost? That were the good times. Or when they rereleased 2 GC games and 1 Wii game on a Wii disc at a normal price with some extras? Nintendo has changed for the worse but maybe they are making more money now, so that's good for them I guess...

    What a kick in the balls for the WiiU player base. I understand not wanting to have the same game priced differently on different digital shops, but you’d think they’d show a bit of good faith and reward those few loyal Nintendo fans who actually bought/have a WiiU, by giving them those low prices.

    it's true, things will rarely, if ever, truly be the last straw that breaks the back fully. People can and will put up with a lot of nonsense and anti-consumer practices when trying to get entertainment.
    But at the end of the day? This is either the last straw overall, the last straw for someone who would've been happy, or just another straw that adds to the pile. These are things that quite literally pile up, and the more you allow it to happen for petty reasons, the more you're willing to let that final back breaking moment get closer and closer.

They are going to spend the $60 on the Deluxe Switch version because it's more economical. Nintendo removing Pikmin 3 really makes no sense. Do they think there is someone out there that has never owned a Wii U or Switch just all of a sudden really wanted to play Pikmin 3 and they were able to find a cheap Wii U for $200 just to play one game for $20? Is that really a big concern over at Nintendo?

    I understand why it's so weird, and it's not anything you said in the video. It's weird because they're admitting the Switch has limited value because of all of its ports. When a company engages in a practice that forces a consumer to keep something, e.g. the inability to resell digital games, the company is essentially admitting that the product has no value. In this case, they're forcing people to be unable to buy a product on a previous, now cheaper system in order to maximize profit and, well.. just simply force consumers to buy the new system that they wouldn't ordinarily buy otherwise because of limited value, and remove the option to get a better value.

They're not weighing this like "Oh, this many more customers buying the game for $60 instead of $20 is worth the PR hit", They're looking at it like "This new release being available for less on our old storefront devalues our brand, and for that reason it has to go".
    It doesn't matter if a million people would've picked up Pikmin 3 for $20 or if it was only one, the option merely existing on their storefront is problematic enough for them to get rid of it, in the same way that people offering free fan games is problematic to Nintendo regardless of how little effect those fan games might have on their own game sales

      ROM hacks are, for that very reason, often distributed as a file that has to be applied as an update to an existing ROM file of the game. The hack is distributed without any code of the game it is a hack for, the person willing to use the hack has to obtain the ROM and then apply the update by themselves. Enes Aslan They do add more content, and the games are great. You don’t have to buy anything they sell and personally I don’t really have a problem. It doesn’t take too many development resources and it gives people a chance to play the game again

    I think the reason for droping Pikmin 3 from Wii U is more about casuals not knowing that the game is for sale for a third of the price somewhere else, and getting "offended" by that, than forcing people who have Wii U's to pay 60$ for the game.

    Another completely nonsensical business decision by Nintendo that does nothing but anger and upset their own fanbase. They always have and hopefully always will be my favourite games company but they constantly chip on that perception with each terrible move.
    Reminds me of their attitude to paper Mario... Taking it in a direction that the vast majority of their fans do not like, but screw the fans, Tanabe wants to make it an adventure game so go away fans and pretend paper Mario 64 and TTYD didn't ever exist........

      The thing is, people loved the changes they made to loz in breath of the wild (not me personally, but screw me i guess) paper mario isnt a big franchise as of now, so they are trying new things to get the people's attention. They do listen to the fans and sometimes it works out (f.e. casual mode in fire emblem) and sometimes it doesnt work out (unlimited time in pikmin 2). Removing older versions of stuff has been done for forever, just look at the star wars movies which has been altered for years. I dont mind it too much because people can still buy the physical copies and with the second hand market i dont think anyone SHOULD buy their wii u games digitally, cause you can buy them for like 10 bucks instead of 40-60.
